This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wang Shuqiu might have arranged to meet her colleagues quite early. Du Heng wasn’t even at work yet, and she had already arrived.

She tossed Du Heng the car keys, grabbed a large suitcase, and was ready to leave.

”Where are you all heading off to?” Du Heng asked casually as he waited with Wang Shuqiu for her ride.

Wang Shuqiu seemed very excited. ”They said we’re going to drive along the Qinghai-Tibet line, then head into Shuchuan for a tour, and finally return via Ganna.”

Du Heng was surprised. ”A road trip, huh?”

”Yeah, driving ourselves! We can go wherever we want and stop whenever we feel like it.”

”How many of you are going?”

”Four. Don’t worry, all four of us have driver’s licenses.”

Du Heng clicked his tongue twice.

A road trip... are they underestimating it? The Qinghai-Tibet line, no less. I bet after one day of driving, once the initial excitement wears off, none of them will want to touch the steering wheel.

”Should I give you a ride to meet them?”

”No need. You’d just have to drive back again; it’s not worth the trouble. We’ll message you when we set off.”

”Alright then, be careful. And send me a message every day to let me know you’re safe.”

After seeing Wang Shuqiu into her car, Du Heng took out his phone and transferred 20,000 yuan to her.

It’s better to be frugal at home and well-provisioned on the road. Since she’s going out to have fun, she should do so to her heart’s content.

Upon returning to his office, Du Heng immediately summoned Qian Lizhen, the newly appointed doctor of the Department of Preventive Healthcare, and Huo Yinhua.

Then he assigned them a task: to go into the villages and conduct seminars on reproductive safety. Their focus was to be on women who were already pregnant. While registering and keeping records of these women, they were to do their utmost to encourage them to undergo prenatal examinations, make them understand the importance of these check-ups, and instill in them the awareness that childbirth should take place in hospitals.

Giving birth at home was simply too dangerous.

Once the tasks were assigned, Huo Yinhua had no objections. Instead, Qian Lizhen, who had been quiet the whole time, was very unhappy.

However, Du Heng didn’t care in the slightest whether she was happy or not. As long as she did the work he assigned, that was all that mattered.

Afterward, he paid no mind to how they would handle the matter, simply gathered his things, and began his own day’s work.

He was busy until the afternoon when Gu Ping called to discuss the follow-up visits. Just as he was about to hang up, Du Heng suddenly called out, ”Gu, be my assistant tomorrow. Do you have time?”

Gu Ping was taken aback by the sudden invitation. ”Mr. Du, are you holding consultations tomorrow?”

”It’s like this: the Municipal Criminal Police Team has invited me to conduct medical examinations for them. I was hoping you could be my assistant for the day. If you can’t adjust your schedule, it’s alright; I can find someone else.”

On the other end of the line, Gu Ping was stunned and momentarily speechless.

It wasn’t until Du Heng prompted him again that he hurriedly replied, ”Mr. Du, please wait a moment. Let me talk to the Director. It should be fine.”

”Alright, go ask him quickly, and let me know once you have an answer.”

He had just hung up when another call came in. It was Zhou Yixian.

It was nothing urgent. After briefly discussing a patient’s condition, Zhou Yixian brought up the matter of fees.

Regarding this, Du Heng was indifferent; he could accept any amount, whether large or small.

Before that conversation ended, Gu Ping called back, his voice brimming with excitement.

Yet Gu Ping’s excitement was nothing compared to that of another person: Wu Shengnan.

「The next day, as dawn was breaking,」

Du Heng got up to wash and saw a person in a police uniform standing in the yard.

Holding his washbasin, Du Heng looked rather glum. ”Ms. Wu, isn’t this a bit too early?”

Wu Shengnan’s excitement was written all over her face. ”Not at all! By the time we get to the station, they’ll just be starting their workday.”

Seeing Du Heng standing still with the washbasin, she quickly urged him, ”Hurry up and wash! We can leave as soon as you’re done.”

Du Heng found Wu Shengnan’s excitement somewhat baffling.

Even if I were to examine everyone in their team, what does that have to do with her? Why is she so worked up about it?

”Ms. Wu...”

”Don’t be so formal. Just call me Shengnan.”

This woman is truly hard to figure out. When we first met, she was incredibly haughty, as if everyone was after something from her. The second time we met, she surprisingly didn’t refuse and even had drinks with me. The third meeting was even more outrageous; she directly asked me to go to their workplace to conduct medical check-ups. This is only our fourth meeting today, right? And she’s already telling me to call her Shengnan. Tsk, tsk, this relationship is progressing by leaps and bounds!

Du Heng, with his limited experiences, found her eagerness quite unsettling.

”Sheng... Shengnan, tell me the truth. Why are you so invested in this?”

”It’s nothing, just genuinely concerned about my colleagues.”

”Are you going to tell me or not? If not, I’m not going today,” Du Heng threatened.

Unexpectedly, Wu Shengnan fell for this tactic and quickly said, ”Alright, alright, I’ll tell you.”

”The truth now, don’t even think about deceiving me.”

”I want to do something for everyone so they’ll agree to my transfer to the front-line team.”

Du Heng reached up and scratched his head. ”So, what are you now?”

”Internal work.”

What a character! She doesn’t want a comfortable job, preferring instead to rush into the exhausting and arduous front-line work. Any man who marries such a woman is in for a world of unending trouble. This lifetime, he could forget about eating a hot meal she cooked; he’d probably have to cook for her every day. And that’s not even mentioning taking care of children or managing the household.

Du Heng walked listlessly towards the washroom. He was merely curious about her reasons; he didn’t actually care whether or not she could really transfer to the front-line team.
