Chapter 218: Chapter 214: Amateur Dr. Ye

They took the elevator to the eighth floor. The hallway was bustling with people, with many doctors and nurses in white coats rushing back and forth.

Ye Xing followed the middle-aged man to VIP room 801. A crowd of people stood talking at the entrance to the room. Each one had a distinguished bearing, and it seemed they were all there to visit the patient inside.

”Mayor Chen!” ”Mayor Chen, you’re here!”

”Mmm. How is my father’s condition?”

”It’s not looking good. Dean Zeng and the others are already inside treating him!”

”I see.”

After asking a couple of questions at the door, the middle-aged man hurriedly led Ye Xing into the hospital room.

Inside the room, platters of fruit were arranged by the bedside. On the bed, an old man with graying hair lay on his last breath, his face contorted in pain. Several doctors were frantically examining him.

”Mayor Chen, you’re here. Elder Chen’s condition has worsened again. We need your signature. We have to perform heart surgery immediately!” one of the older doctors said, rushing over.

”The chances of success are too low!” The middle-aged man, Chen Yanming, shook his head. ”Dean Zeng, I don’t plan on letting my father have the surgery.”

”This is the current level of medical expertise in the country; there’s nothing to be done about it. Even if we sent him to the United States, it would at most increase the odds by a few percentage points, and we’re out of time. Besides, Elder Chen’s body can’t handle the strain of a long-distance journey.” Dean Zeng gave a bitter smile. ”My recommendation is to operate immediately. No matter how low the probability, there’s still a hope of success. Elder Chen’s condition is very serious, and he’s had multiple relapses. If we don’t operate right away, I’m afraid he won’t make it through the night.”

”Yes, my father’s condition is indeed difficult to treat. You and your team have worked hard these past few days, Dean Zeng,” Chen Yanming said thoughtfully. ”But the chances of success are too low. Unless it’s a last resort, I still don’t want my father to take that risk. Fortunately, I was finally able to persuade Mr. Ye to come.”

”Mr. Ye, I’m entrusting my father’s condition to you!” the middle-aged man, Chen Yanming, said to Ye Xing.

”Mmm.” Ye Xing gave a slight nod and walked toward the hospital bed.

”Mr. Ye?” All the doctors in the room were stunned. ”Wait, Mayor Chen, you can’t be thinking of letting this young man treat Elder Chen, are you?”

”Yes, I am. Mr. Ye’s medical skills are extraordinary. I’m afraid he is the only one who has any hope of curing my father,” the middle-aged man, Chen Yanming, said in a solemn voice.

The moment he finished speaking, all the doctors in the room were completely dumbfounded.

’What is going on? Mayor Chen is usually such a serious and proper person. What kind of joke is this? This young man isn’t even thirty; he looks to be in his early twenties at most. He clearly looks like an intern. Does he even have a year of medical experience? How is he supposed to treat anything?’

Dean Zeng grew anxious on the spot. ”Mayor Chen, you must be confused! Elder Chen is a man of great prestige and respect. This is a matter of life and death; how can you treat it like a child’s game? We’ve never even seen this doctor in the entire province! It’s not that we look down on young doctors, but setting his age aside, if his medical skills were truly so great, how could he have no reputation at all?”

”Uh, Mr. Ye is just an amateur, not a professional doctor, so he has no reputation in the medical community. I believe he studied Chinese medicine,” the middle-aged man, Chen Yanming, said.

”What? An amateur!!!”

All the leading physicians in the room stared with wide eyes, finding it utterly unbelievable that Mayor Chen would let an amateur treat his own father.

Dean Zeng was so furious his face turned red and the veins on his neck bulged. He shrieked, ”Young man, if you don’t know medicine, don’t mess around! You haven’t even taken his pulse or gotten a clear understanding of the patient’s condition, and you’re sticking a silver needle toward his heart! You’re going to kill someone! Stop, right now!”

By the bedside, Ye Xing was in the middle of twirling a silver needle and inserting it toward Elder Chen’s heart when Dean Zeng and the others shouted. Ye Xing couldn’t help but frown. He shot a cool glance at the doctors and said to the middle-aged man, ”Too many people. It’s too loud.”

”Yes, of course. Mr. Ye, please focus on the treatment. I’ll take Dean Zeng and the others out right now!” Chen Yanming said hurriedly. ”Dean Zeng, let’s all go outside. Don’t disturb Mr. Ye’s treatment. I believe in Mr. Ye’s skills!” With that, he began pulling Dean Zeng and the others toward the door.

Since the patient’s family had agreed, Dean Zeng and the other doctors could only shake their heads, sigh, and walk out. They clearly had no faith in this treatment. After all, a doctor’s skill is normally judged in large part by their wealth of medical experience. That’s why older doctors were more sought-after and more trusted. To let a young brat handle the treatment... in their eyes, the outcome would be too tragic to watch.

「In the hallway outside the room」

”Secretary Yang, why do you think the mayor would let a young brat treat Elder Chen?”

”Are that kid’s medical skills really that great?”

”How should I know? When I went in, I saw the mayor begging that young fellow to treat Elder Chen!”

”What? You mean the kid wasn’t even willing to treat him?”

”That’s right. The young fellow said he wasn’t a doctor and didn’t want to get involved. Mayor Chen was so desperate he almost knelt down to him.”

”Who is this kid? What makes him so arrogant?”

”I don’t know his name. County Magistrate Yu, it seems he’s from your Luoxian County.”

”I’ve met every doctor with any sort of reputation in Luoxian County. I don’t recall anyone that young.”

”No way. Mayor Chen himself asked, and the kid was still unwilling? Could it be that his skills are actually no good?”

”I bet his skills are no good. He refused because he wasn’t confident he could pull it off. Otherwise, if he cured Elder Chen, that would be a huge favor to owe.”

In the hallway outside VIP room 801, the crowd of various important figures who had come to see Elder Chen were discussing amongst themselves.

Just then—

CREAK! The door opened, and Mayor Chen Yanming, Dean Zeng, and the other doctors walked out together.

”What is everyone talking about?” Chen Yanming asked with a faint smile.

The crowd exchanged confused glances. ”Mayor Chen, why did you ask such a young doctor to treat Elder Chen?”

”Mr. Ye’s medical skills are extraordinary. In all of Fu City, if anyone has a hope of curing my father, I’m afraid it’s only him,” Chen Yanming announced clearly.

”Tch. Mayor Chen, forgive me for being blunt, but that kid is so young. How many years of medical experience could he possibly have? Even if he started studying medicine in the womb, his skills couldn’t be that great.” Dean Zeng shook his head. ”If we perform the heart surgery now, Elder Chen has at least a ten percent chance of survival. However, if we continue to let that kid mess around, I’m afraid Elder Chen’s chances are slim to none.”

”That won’t happen. Mr. Ye’s medical skills are extraordinary; he must be a medical genius,” Chen Yanming said in a low voice. ”Do you all remember the newspaper report about an unknown doctor at Yiming Clinic who cured Old Li of his chronic coronary heart disease, cervical spondylosis, pneumonia, and other persistent ailments?”

”Mayor Chen, are you saying that unknown doctor is the young man inside?”

Everyone was startled. Being in high positions, they had all heard of that news. Many medical institutions had been shocked at the time. One had to understand that Old Li had been plagued by stubborn diseases, many of them chronic, which were considered very difficult to cure completely with the world’s current medical standards. And yet, after being treated by that unknown doctor, all of Old Li’s stubborn diseases were cured. It was as if he had been rejuvenated with a new Life Force, looking several years younger.
