Chapter 216: Chapter 213: Seeking Medical Treatment

A slight chill hung in the early morning air.

The flat, winding highway snaked through the mountains and ridges, like an endless serpent.

Driven by anxiety, Ye Xing floored it. The Porsche flew like the wind, constantly overtaking other cars as it sped toward Fu City.

In less than an hour, he finally reached Fu City.

”HONK!” ”HONK HONK HONK!”

The roads of Fu City were bustling with traffic, traffic lights blinking in rotation. Even though it was early morning, this was a major city, so there was still some congestion.

After another twenty minutes or so of stop-and-go traffic, he finally arrived at Fu City Provincial Hospital.

Fu City Provincial Hospital was located at the bustling Wusi Road intersection in Fujian Province’s Fu City. It covered an area of over ten acres, with a floor space of 120,000 square meters and a capacity of 1,300 beds. The hospital boasted a full range of specializations and a deep pool of talent. It employed 1,396 medical professionals, including over 200 with senior titles and more than 400 with Middle Level titles. Among them were 520 doctors, over 700 nurses, and more than 140 staff members holding doctorate or master’s degrees. Ranked as a Level 3, Grade A institution, it was one of the best hospitals in the entire province.

After getting out of the car, Ye Xing hurried toward the inpatient wards with his parents.

The hospital was a bustling scene, crowded with people of all ages—patients, their families, and doctors and nurses in white coats.

Ye Xing led his parents into an elevator and up to the sixth floor. They followed the corridor to Room 603.

The door to the room was ajar. Peeking inside, they saw a man in his thirties or forties lying on the hospital bed, his face contorted in pain and his forehead beaded with cold sweat. His left leg was stained with patches of blood—a shocking crimson—and a doctor was examining the wound.

Three family members, a man and two women, were gathered around the bed. Ye Xing recognized them: his uncle’s wife, his other aunt, and his uncle-in-law. The injured man in the bed was, naturally, Ye Xing’s uncle, Lin Debiao.

”Debiao, how are you?!”

Upon entering the room, his mother, Lin Yufang, rushed over anxiously. Ye Xing and his father, Ye Guozhong, hurried after her.

”Sis! Brother-in-law! You’re here.” He spotted Ye Xing. ”Eh, Axing, you little rascal, you came to see your old uncle too, huh? Haha, I’m fine, don’t you worry!” Lin Debiao grinned, but his face was so pale that even his smile looked sickly.

Just then, his uncle’s wife and his other aunt and uncle noticed Ye Xing’s family and greeted them. His uncle’s wife sat by the bed, wiping away tears, while his other aunt looked just as heartbroken.

Ye Xing glanced at his uncle’s left leg. The knee was covered in gruesome bloodstains. Even though it had been bandaged, fresh blood was still seeping through.

”Doctor, how’s my brother’s leg?” his mother, Lin Yufang, asked hurriedly.

His uncle’s wife, his other aunt, and her husband also turned to the doctor. ”Dr. Xie, how bad is our Debiao’s injury? How long will it take for him to recover?” they asked, worried.

By the bedside, Dr. Xie finished his examination of Lin Debiao’s leg. His brow was furrowed and his expression was grim. He shook his head and sighed. ”This is a severe injury. It’s not just a fracture. The muscle tissue is necrotic and there’s a bacterial infection. Worst-case scenario, it may require amputation.”

The moment Dr. Xie finished speaking, the color drained from every family member’s face. The word ”amputation” hung in the air, heavy and suffocating. It meant no longer being a normal person. It meant becoming disabled. The blow was devastating.

”How could this happen!”

”Dr. Xie, you have to save our Debiao!”

His mother, his uncle’s wife, and the others were all in a panic. A deathly pallor washed over Uncle Lin Debiao’s face. The blow was, of course, heaviest for him. He had thought that as long as his injured leg could heal, everything would be fine. He could endure any amount of pain. However, if it was so severe that it required amputation, he would become disabled. His future would lose so much of its color.

”He fell from a tall building. He didn’t just fracture it; he was also impaled by a rusty steel rebar. The probability of surgical amputation is high, so you need to be mentally prepared. Of course, it’s not set in stone yet. I need to observe his condition for another two days to see if there’s any improvement. But even if his condition improves and we save the leg, he will likely have permanent side effects,” Dr. Xie explained frankly. There was no point in hiding the facts, as the need for surgery would become clear in the next day or two.

On the hospital bed, his uncle Lin Debiao looked as if he’d been struck by lightning. His face was deathly pale, and he muttered dazedly, as if his soul had fled him, ’Amputation? My leg is ruined... How will I work? I’ll be a cripple...’

For a healthy, able-bodied person to suddenly be told they might lose a leg—anyone hearing such news would be terrified and overwhelmed.

His mother, his uncle’s wife, and his aunt felt their hearts sink, an unbearable tightness in their chests. Though heartbroken, they quickly tried to comfort their uncle.

”I can heal that leg!”

Suddenly, a voice rang out.

”Debiao’s leg can be healed?”

Hearing this, his mother, his uncle’s wife, and his aunt were overjoyed and all turned to Dr. Xie. They had instinctively assumed it was the doctor who spoke. However, they saw Dr. Xie was looking at the young man standing on the other side of the room—and that young man was none other than Ye Xing.

”Wait, that wasn’t Dr. Xie. Was that Axing who just spoke?”

”No wonder the voice sounded familiar.”

His uncle’s wife and aunt were stunned. ”Axing,” one of them asked in disbelief, ”was that you who just spoke?”

”Yes.” Ye Xing nodded. ”Aunt, none of you need to worry. I can heal Uncle’s leg.”
