One-Eyed Monster

Igor felt he shouldn’t reveal his hand to Perkins so soon, even though he didn’t sense anything unusual about Perkins, he couldn’t guarantee that Perkins wasn’t a fraud.

After all, who could so easily enter his inner world and then claim to be a non-professional?

Thinking back to Guru Mountain, not everyone could enter the inner world. Senior Joseph, with his exceptional spirit sensing ability, could oversee the land like an eagle, yet he couldn’t enter the inner world.

But Perkins, he could, and without any hindrance, which felt wrong.

Igor knew well that people who couldn’t easily enter the inner world could overcome this innate barrier using the Ant Connection Spell, but it required a connection of spirit power, and anomalies like Kadi were rare.

But Igor was sure he hadn’t connected with Perkins using the Ant Connection Spell. This guy was a non-professional, couldn’t perceive spirit power, nor could he release his own spirit power, so he had no way to connect with Perkins.

Yet Perkins somehow entered his inner world, wasn’t that strange?

Anyone would potentially suspect Perkins.

However, Perkins’ incessant stories quickly drained Igor of this suspicion.

Wait a minute, was this Perkins’ method, to make others lower their guard? If so, this guy was truly a vile person.

Igor suddenly broke into a cold sweat, involuntarily alert again, he needed to carefully listen and see what exactly Perkins was talking about.

This doubt had become quite heavy in his mind, it needed to be lightened, or something might go wrong.

Yet as he listened, he just felt that Perkins was full of nonsense.

One moment it was the Tree Spirit, the next it was the Royal Wizard of Queen Wensi, all sorts of spirit-related things, but none of them seemed to have anything to do with Perkins, leaving Igor quite confused.

This doubt was like ignited smoke, originally just a small wisp, but as the wind intervened, the smoke would grow larger and more entangling, gradually stinging one’s eyes and making breathing difficult.

Igor felt as if he was in this smoke, struggling to breathe.

Why was it like this? Igor asked himself, why couldn’t he make sense of what Perkins was saying, and why did his thoughts keep wandering?

Although he didn’t think Perkins was a bad person, he still felt that if someone was hiding something, they weren’t honest, so he had to be cautious...

But Perkins’ demeanor repeatedly made him abandon this idea, as Perkins was too enthusiastic, always emanating an aura of a good person.

This left Igor in a bit of a dilemma, should he continue to be suspicious, or just let it go. He was now quite bewildered, not knowing what decision to make.

Perkins was still chattering on, insisting that he was an apothecarist, claiming he could erase the boundaries between professionals and non-professionals.

Igor couldn’t grasp these grand theories, these things were hard to clarify for him, Igor was the type who connected with tangible things rather than theories, making it a tedious task.

But Perkins didn’t know this, he thought he could make Igor understand this theory instantly with his story, and he continued to tell it tirelessly, without realizing how convoluted his story was and lacking any coherence.

Igor’s head was aching, but to prevent the one-in-a-million chance of Perkins actually being a bad person, he continued to listen cautiously, knowing this torment was going to last a while...

Igor couldn’t understand how someone who loved listening to stories so much had become like this, it was quite incredible.

He couldn’t pinpoint where his anxiety came from.

He couldn’t understand why he instinctively found Perkins a bit strange, yet didn’t think he was a bad person.

He also couldn’t understand why he was listening to these seemingly nonsensical stories...

He wondered if Perkins didn’t grow weary of telling his tales like this.

So many questions troubled him, he felt on the verge of suffocating, the dense smoke grew larger, enveloping him completely, he felt he would either be choked by the smoke or be consumed by it, becoming one with it...

”I think you should choose to be consumed by the smoke, you’ll then become the smoke, and no longer have to be conflicted.”

Suddenly, a familiar voice resonated again, the last time this voice emerged, it advised Igor to build an inner world to resolve the crisis at the gates of Luona Capital.

Igor didn’t understand why this voice always surfaced when he felt helpless.

”You’re not meant to understand, because you don’t, I have to come out, otherwise I wouldn’t bother.”

Igor knew only he could hear this voice, so he stopped questioning it, knowing whatever he contemplated, this voice would perceive and respond to him.

Like now, he was pondering if this voice was from the Spirit Book.

”Indeed, I am the Spirit Book, though an advanced form now, I’ve mentioned before that I’m your golden finger, you scoffed then, do you believe now?”

What difference does it make whether I believe or not, chances are it’s still as unreliable as ever, if you have the ability, take away this confusion in front of me.

Inwardly, Igor showed disdain, as the unreliable image of the Spirit Book had already taken root, grown into a towering tree in his mind.

”Though I really don’t want to bother with your current attitude, given that you’re my owner, I’m bound to you, no other option.”

No point in this pointless talk, I don’t have time for you, I still need to listen to Perkins’ nonsense.

Igor continued with his disdain, it was a habitual response to the Spirit Book, now ingrained.

”Don’t underestimate others like this, haven’t you heard ’look with new eyes after three days’, besides, didn’t you just forget what happened a moment ago?”

The Spirit Book reminded Igor, but it didn’t have much effect, Igor felt he had just jumped from one confusion to another, no significant difference.

”Just wait, I’ll give you the answers you seek shortly, I refuse to believe I can’t handle you...” The Spirit Book, pushed by Igor’s attitude, resolved to show some real skills to Igor.

Prepare yourself, I’m quite looking forward to it.

Igor shrugged, setting aside the disturbance from the voice, fully intent on listening to Perkins’ tales...
