One-Eyed Monster

Perkins didn’t say anything. He also understood Rostov’s character. No matter what, his foster father was not a malicious person, so he always felt that the story behind this would be very intriguing.

Right now, everything is speculation. The real truth needs to be told by Rostov himself.

At present, Rostov is opening his heart to Hustace, saying things he previously dared not mention, and Hustace is saying it all.

As a son, he feels he hasn’t released himself in a long time, and this moment is truly satisfying.

In his bones, he is grateful to Stan Sol for giving him this opportunity. Though it limited his personal freedom, he can now truly express himself in front of his father.

”I’ve had enough of the sheltering; I don’t want to be special anymore! I have no freedom at all!” Hustace shouted at his old man. On this journey, he had thought a lot. He wondered why Perkins could live so freely, yet he himself was so constrained!

”Son, why do you think so? I haven’t stopped you from doing anything!” Governor Rostov didn’t understand why his son felt he wasn’t free. He never stopped this child from doing anything, so why had it become unfree?

This point puzzled him. No matter how he thought about it, he couldn’t figure it out.

Rostov felt that he had given his child everything, whatever was wanted was given, never obstructing Hustace’s hobbies, even going as far as giving his son the Thunder from the Thunder Army, and now this child still says he is unfree. He doesn’t even know what freedom is anymore!

”You don’t understand, you will never understand what I want!” Hustace raised his voice, having bottled up for a long time, and at this moment, he can finally release it a bit.

Igor and Perkins exchanged glances and shrugged at each other. Clearly, they were also surprised by this.

As for Stan Sol, he completely became someone unrelated to the matter at this moment, entirely ignored by the father and son...

But Stan Sol didn’t try to draw attention to himself. He understood the importance of family bonds, and even if he tried to forcibly make his presence noticed, the father and son wouldn’t pay attention to him.

So he might as well patiently wait and let the father and son finish their exchange before addressing his issues.

At this moment, Hustace truly let himself go. He said everything he dared not say before. He used to be very puzzled about why only when he stepped out, there would be a crowd around him, and why he couldn’t go fishing freely...

At all times, he was reminded that he was the governor’s son; he couldn’t do this, he had to do that, etc. He felt like he was bound hand and foot, not free at all.

For so many years, he couldn’t speak freely to anyone, even needing to eat slowly during meals because eating too quickly would have people saying the governor’s son was not well-mannered... Hustace felt he was living for his father, not for himself. Wherever he went, he was called the governor’s son; very few called him by his name.

Until Igor appeared.

Igor made him feel a slightly different presence; Igor could laugh loudly, do whatever he pleased, and no one ever arranged anything meticulously for him.

Hustace didn’t understand his father, and he always felt he was shackled by his father’s governor identity.

”Son, I can understand your distress...”

”What do you understand? You understand nothing! You only think about your governor identity, never caring about me!” Hustace roared.

The father and son were arguing over a simple matter. The father didn’t understand the son, and the son found it hard to understand the father. Now they finally had the chance to lay everything bare and seriously talk about this story.

This heart-to-heart talk saw Hustace pouring out all his grievances, while Rostov felt his own inadequacy.

Roaring can always make one angry, yet when a son roars at his father, this father remained silent.

He knew that over these years, he hadn’t adequately accompanied his child, hadn’t let the child feel a father’s love.

Although over the years, he had always given the child whatever he wanted, these things were, in the end, just things. They couldn’t make up for the regret caused by a lack of fatherly companionship.

Even if he could give his son mountains of gold and silver, so what? Even if he let his son act wilfully, so what?

His son always felt lonely. This loneliness made him feel shackled, not free.

If he could have spent more time with his son, maybe it wouldn’t have come to this.

His son wouldn’t be unhappy.

Happiness isn’t built on material things.

Even though Hustace was the son of the Governor of Luona, he wasn’t happy at all.

The return of Perkins made Hustace realize another thing: his lack of freedom wasn’t entirely because he was the governor’s son.

It was just an excuse for him, just an excuse to escape himself.

When one tries to escape oneself, any excuse can serve as a good explanation.

He attributed his ignorance and incompetence to his father. Doing so made him feel comforted, but it was all his own issue. Although his father spent little time with him, that wasn’t the main reason.

Hustace himself knew many people envied his identity. He could get anything he wanted, yet he lived an unhappy life despite having such good conditions...

Now he finally understands; he isn’t Nothingness, always fearing this or that, not knowing what choice to make.

Lacking direction made him very hesitant, and this was the real reason he felt unfree.

In the past, he could blame it all on his father, but when he saw Perkins return, he realized the true cause was still within himself.

Now, he is roaring, shouting here, simply because he needs to vent.

”It turns out Hustace is in such pain.” Igor said to Perkins, realizing that everyone has their story. These stories might be wonderful or painful, but no matter what kind of story, there needs to be a listener.

”His father is no exception. Now, this father and son should be able to relax a bit. Thankfully, foster father truly listened and felt it; he genuinely loves Hustace,” Perkins remarked, understanding the scene.

At this moment, Rostov stood motionless, looking at his son Hustace, with an indescribable bitter sorrow in his heart.

And Hustace screamed and cried loudly at this moment...

A person dissatisfied with themselves finally vented everything out, while his father silently bore it all, not uttering a word of complaint. Even with his father’s status and power, he couldn’t change his son’s suffering...
