Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1400 -753: Savage Plan (Part 2)

As for the great Lord, he’s just an ordinary person. You could say nobody wants to lie flat more than Lance; after all, who doesn’t want stability?

But this is the last chance, otherwise Lance wouldn’t be this urgent; they think it’s just because they can’t see the hidden dangers.

Lance still understands the story of ‘rallying all at once.’ He can feel that Hamlet is barely hanging on by this breath; otherwise, he wouldn’t rely on the Ascension Sect to take the blame one last time just to resolve this matter.

Because once you stop, it’s hard to start the war again, especially from the perspective of those ordinary people, whose logic makes it hard to understand things far removed from themselves.

By then, problems in resource allocation, funding gaps, and economic collapse could lead to internal unrest.

Not only them, but even Grendel is a bit unclear.

Grendel is fine in every other aspects but lacks vision; she’s really unsuitable for politics, particularly due to a lack of a big-picture view and foresight.

Especially after defeating the Warwolf, learning of the Fang Tribe’s demise, she became more conservative, always seeking stability; probably related to the survival rules of the Mountain Tribe.

In such harsh conditions like the mountains, when a priest directing the tribe gets too aggressive, the result might be just like the Fang Tribe — one moment climbing high, then suddenly “pop” and fall to death.

Previously, no trouble arose because she was cautious, only following Lance’s plan without meddling in other affairs, and temporarily holding off decisions she couldn’t make until he returned.

But none of that matters now; everyone came from humble beginnings, Lance isn’t much better; those who have been through such things understand it.

“Am I stupid? Always dragging you down.” Lance’s silence seemed to make Grendel somewhat self-critical.

“Truly a fool wouldn’t grasp those complex herbology and potions; you’re just too kind, not suited for these tasks.”

Lance understood Grendel’s concerns; she’d been trapped in Hamlet for a long time, still having too little exposure to the outside world, so he immediately added, “This time you’ll come with me, it’ll be good to go out a bit to relieve your mind.”

“Really!”

Grendel’s face couldn’t help but show a delighted look; where didn’t matter, but going together did.

“There’s no Evil God now; Baldwin is here, no worries, that’s settled!”

Grendel flipped over directly and hugged Lance, pressing his head down.

Just suddenly a bit strange.

“Why do you seem shorter? And thinner…”

“The structure of humans determines that the taller you are, the greater pressure on the heart and blood vessels; also, heavy weight puts pressure on the body; mine is the perfect body shape.”

Body shape for a demigod mastering the Power of Flesh and Blood has no meaning; if Lance wants, he could in the next moment become a small giant of two or three meters, with exaggerated muscles if he desires; however, it has little actual significance.

“Is it all smaller?” Grendel had never heard of shrinking in growth, so she was curious.

Lance directly lifted her up and ran towards the room.

“Let me show you if my strength has shrunk!”

…

Before the war arrived, it was rather calm; this day everyone got to adjust, and similarly, Lance had free time.

This trip out would possibly take some time, so of course Hamlet had to be arranged well, duties allocated to the Honor Guard, and heading to the ruins town.

It indeed wasn’t as lively as it had been before; when thousands crowded the small town, many didn’t even have houses and could only camp in open spaces.

Now, a large number of adventurers realized the ruins were a scam and chose to flee, making town space more abundant.

It might also be because they were scared by Extreme Darkness and the Blood Moon; at that time, the Honor Guard suppression was very forceful.

Some got seriously injured during the ruins chaos; those senior adventurers rushing into the depths suffered heavy casualties, even if they escaped with the Honor Guard, most were forced to withdraw.

Of course, there were still some stubborn, or rather driven by sunk costs, pushed to only keep going.

Some leave, naturally, others come.

The news about Hamlet spreading with merchants needs time to ferment, let alone the era’s traffic, which also takes time to come here.

These people hadn’t experienced Hamlet’s chaos, nor seen its darkness, coming batch by batch from old roads or docks into the ruins.

This is why Lance isn’t rushing to deal with the ruins; there will always be some who see themselves as protagonists.

Just like swarming into stock markets then getting fleeced, obviously not a game for ordinary people to play, once you dive in, you have to accept the consequences.

But for those scavengers, the impact isn’t much, or you could say scavengers now are the main force; as long as they aren’t aiming to get rich, they can survive here by picking up some garbage to eat.

It’s just those rats that are bothersome…

“Aren’t those as big as cats now?”

Lance looked at those large rats caged, bulky size, oily black and shiny fur, tails as thick as fingers, weighing an estimated eight to ten pounds, about the size of a cat.

And this creature’s inherent claws and teeth have mutated more exaggeratedly under the Blood Moon, with eyes blood-red, giving an impression of being very ferocious and aggressive.

Indeed, when not seeing people, it’s gnawing on the iron cage, teeth making “ka-ka” sounds rubbing against steel.

When seeing people, it immediately becomes alert, abandoning the cage, making “hiss” noises at people, even ramming the cage.

The town had reported the rat problem long ago, around Blood Moon’s arrival, when the Skeletons hadn’t spread out yet, these rats had already invaded the town.

Although their numbers were limited and couldn’t form a rat tide, they were individually more ferocious, not only destroying buildings, contaminating food and water sources, but attacking humans, even biting off someone’s ear while sleeping.

To solve this issue, they set traps, used rat poison, tried everything they could.

The more troublesome thing is their nest being within the ruins, another batch shows up when one’s caught, not a major disruption, but highly annoying.

Lance came to inspect and understand the situation here, pondering how to address this.

Then he noticed something peculiar.

“Why separate them when caging?”

The person didn’t understand why the Lord suddenly asked this, but still explained the reason.

“These rats aren’t just aggressive towards humans; they’ll fight upon encountering each other and eat the other.”

Upon hearing the explanation, Lance’s expression turned playful.

“Is this common? Do they attack immediately or wait until hungry?”

“We aren’t sure ourselves.”

The person didn’t dare to speak nonsense before the Lord, simply told the truth, after all who has time to study such things.

Lance wasn’t bothered by this, instead took two cages to a trapping pit dug for capturing rats, with an overturn setup; once inside, it’s hard to escape.

However, Lance directly removed the cover, released the rats from the cage and threw them inside.

With only one, its first reaction was to try climbing out; but the next second, another dropped down.

The two rats locked eyes, and for a moment, hesitated, full of confrontation tension; then suddenly started fighting as that person nervously observed.

The sight of two rats fighting was indeed fierce, mainly biting each other, claws reaching for each other; they were thick and slick enough over their fur, although some blood was apparent, initially unclear who was winning.

Lance noticed one might have a crippled hind leg possibly caught by the trap, and suddenly quipped, “Which one do you think will win?”
