Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1370: Chapter 742: Hell Within the Heart (8)

The ancestor’s mechanics in the game are very special, going through three phases in total.

Starting from the human form, adept in manipulating flesh, using replicas to fight, the actual form has no attack capability.

After being defeated, it transitions to the Heart of Gestation form, possessing only passive counterattack ability.

Finally, it becomes forcibly incubated from the wounded Heart of Gestation into the Heart of Darkness.

Simply summarized as: Human Form - Heart of Gestation - Heart of Darkness.

In these forms, neither of the first two counts as the ancestor’s true form, only the last one is the forced reveal of its true form.

This represents the obstacle stopping the ancestor’s ascension, symbolizing his ambition at its peak, embodying the mysterious power responsible for the corruption of Hamlet and its surroundings - the Heart of Darkness.

In the game, the Heart of Darkness is the ancestor’s final form, with a terrifying ability called ”Come to Your Creator’s Side.”

At specific health thresholds, it activates an ability that instantly kills a hero, a storyline kill that is unavoidable.

As a player, you must choose which hero should die in such situations, meaning strategic decisions on who should stay and who should die are required. Unless you can kill the ancestor in one blow...

To some extent, the existence of this mechanic is to embody the game’s consistent philosophy: choice and sacrifice.

However, this mechanic doesn’t work in reality, because the ancestor doesn’t necessarily follow his choices when releasing this move.

The ancestor has his own ideas, and he channels all his power to his most threatening enemy. ℯ

The first strike lands on the Limper who is directly entangled with the ancestor; if it weren’t for its use of the scavenged [Absolute Void] to fend off the tentacles, enabling it to resist the space, it would have been dragged into the Abyss in an instant.

And the second strike just lands on poor Lance...

Just now, Lance was also startled; he was originally preparing to let the Limper take some damage and continue to endure the hits.

Unexpectedly, the ancestor directly targeted him, and he reacted quickly enough, summoning the Black Armor for protection before being devoured by tentacles, but under that terrifying power there was no room to struggle, just getting swept in.

Thankfully, it was the protection of the Black Armor that prevented him from being crushed and compressed by the tentacles, but no bone in his body is intact, the intense pain assaulting his rationality, the only consolation is that even dragged into the Abyss, his consciousness hasn’t been lost.

Yet even Lance is unwilling to recall the treacherousness of the Abyss, moreover the severe damage to his armor made it difficult to use power to traverse the void and escape, the more troublesome is Lance lost the location of that space.

Fortunately, don’t forget the Warhammer [Void Devourer] is a beacon summoning the Limper, Lance supported by Black Armor resisting the Abyss, meanwhile wants to use this to find the Limper’s position.

At this moment, the Limper responded to his summoning, pulling him out of the Abyss.

Nearly exiled to the Abyss, Lance now attacks recklessly, just to eliminate the ancestor.

Now that heart has been severed, the ancestor’s consciousness collapses under the Warhammer’s strike, at last...

Lance stops attacking for one reason, because the sacrifice judgment has passed, it’s time to end it all.

As the Void Devourer approaches, the ancestor suddenly reacts, his state difficult to maintain begins to rapidly collapse, the flesh on his body gets out of control proliferating arbitrarily.

At this moment it seems possible to see countless limbs and organs, along with innumerable faces emerging from the body, seeming to wail, seem to struggle, seem to sink into endless pain, these are the millions of people devoured by the ancestor...

”It seems I still won.”

Lance stands before it, watching the sacrifice judgment pass, the ancestor dragged bit by bit into the void, calm as if pondering what to have for lunch.

The ancestor quickly realizes the futility of struggling, the force making it hard to muster resistance, as if abandoning that obsession with ascension, nobody knows if the ancestor reminisces about the past or is provoked by Lance’s words, a decadent voice echoes.

”Victory.

Such a vile and laughable statement.

We are born from this thing, created from it; at the time, we shall return to this thing.

The so-called great human family, merely is a bunch of renegade flesh.

Reproducing, gathering, growing, dying.

Until the stars align once again into that ancient immutable array, the sleeping ones shall awaken.

Breaking forth from this fragile shell of soil and rock, bringing us the destined end.

Therefore, go seek some solace fitting your lineage status, and take up that meaningless duty as a guard.

May eternal life be disturbed by the monotonous, repulsive rhythm echoing in that infinite dark space-time.

...Our family, has fallen.”

The meaning behind the ancestor’s words is obvious, revealing the true nature of this world, the origin of these beings.

And that the Primordial God will eventually awaken, thus destroying this world.

Once the stars form a specific array it’s like an alarm going off, and destroying the planet is akin to getting up and pulling off the blanket, it’s a predetermined outcome.

In other words, Lance killing him is a futile effort, the so-called great family further illustrated as a mere joke.

Mocking Lance to undertake this guardian responsibility, and now quickly go enjoy something, because the latter half of life will be influenced by this affair, trapped never resting from the noises emanating from that darkness.
