Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1395: Chapter 751: Aftermath

Faced with Lance’s words, the principal had nothing to say and could only stand by and wait for the judgment to come.

She could still wait calmly because she really wasn’t involved in this matter, the charge was merely poor management, and even if punished, it would likely just mean losing the principal position.

But to say she was truly resigned would be absolutely impossible; she wished she could tear that guy apart.

The school has always been Hamlet’s distinctive venue, and for this, she devoted immense energy, always being cautious and careful.

She was praised by the Lord for promoting literacy and education and has always been referred to by the Lord as a ”model.”

Previous corruption incidents hadn’t implicated the school, which was an honor unique to them, unlike any other institution.

If you say the problem lies in education, she would concede, but it happened to be the school cafeteria, which is not closely related to the core functions of the school, a place she seldom focused on; the more she thought about it, the angrier she became.

”My Lord, since he admitted, I suggest the death penalty directly; best if he’s hanged in the square to warn others of the consequences of crime.”

Rosa’s idea was simple: she was losing her principal position anyway; she needed to vent this anger!

This sudden statement scared the man so much his legs went weak, and he fell to his knees.

”What? Are you going to plead for injustice?” Lance was somewhat speechless, glanced at him, and directly scared him into a shiver of fright. Having confessed, what could he say?

”I’m not the one wronged, it’s the principal who is wronged...”

”Then shut up, it’s not your turn to speak yet.”

Seeing him quiet down, Lance then turned to the principal, usually seeing her quite kind-hearted, why such a sudden comment?

”This is where I have to criticize you. We’re conducting an investigation, not settling personal grievances. Investigations follow a process and are about evidence. It’s not just what he says; there has to be a complete chain of evidence, otherwise, no one will be convinced.

Killing someone just for the momentary pleasure solves nothing, and similar situations will certainly happen again. Is it enough to scapegoat someone and not investigate? Whether his death is in vain doesn’t matter, but it’s our responsibility if children continue to be hungry.”

Lance could certainly see the principal’s dissatisfaction. These words were not spoken for her to hear but for those children, to educate them from scratch about the concept of enforcement; he wasn’t encouraging those kids to act recklessly.

”You, my Lord, are right with your teachings.”

He didn’t need anyone to teach him how to kill someone; he wasn’t seeking vengeance but wanted to handle this matter rigorously, as a clear-cut case.

This punk just managed the cafeteria; one person couldn’t have reached this extent. There was an entire chain of interests, and Lance wanted to catch a group of rats, cleaning out some trash.

And under Lance’s orders, more and more people arrived.

Rosa was considered the school representative, and this matter involved the military, so a military representative had to be selected to assist with the related investigation.

The police were actually leading the investigation, William was the executor handling the case, and the Lord was overseeing this matter.

Lance had to wait for everyone to gather before starting, as multiple people needed to be present during the interrogation process.

”Let’s begin. Tell us everything you know.”

”I didn’t take the money; they all had a share...”

The man didn’t hesitate much, but what he revealed implicated bigger and bigger issues.

The other few felt a bit pressured, but Lance just lightly said.

”Record it in the files.”

...

Certainly, working as a police officer, every trivial matter can find its way to you; it’s not surprising to witness human diversity.

Finally on vacation, thought I could rest for a few days, only to be called back to work after just one day off.

Then, swiftly, under William’s organization, we started running around frequently, knocking on doors, taking people away.

The public, previously eating up the drama of evil cultists and noble invasions, quickly turned their attention and started inquiring; however, due to the confidentiality of the investigation process, they couldn’t obtain much information.

The situation here piqued the curiosity of outsiders.

Hamlet has way too many things going on, doesn’t it?

Recently, when the Blood Moon descended, thought things calmed down a bit, but then it was about evil cult remnants and nearby noble invasions.

While evil cultists were just making rounds in the square, by afternoon, many people were already arrested.

This environment, full of uncertainty and chaos, imparted a strange sense of fatigue.

But aside from the Blood Moon, these matters actually don’t affect them.

This peculiar sensation indeed offered them an ineffable awkwardness, yet curiosity is human nature, so they wanted to indulge...

Interestingly, the people taken were not sent to the police station but to the school.

They were separated for placement and interrogation.

Just as the Lord mentioned, coincidentally the school was on vacation, there were plenty of classrooms to accommodate them, to see whether there were more of them or more students.

While William and the others were busy with the investigation and interrogation, Lance finally had a proper meal with the orphans left at the school, enjoying a feast with dishes and meat.

”That’s why you shouldn’t listen to those people speaking nonsense, they shout slogans while letting you gnaw on bread, but indulge in lavish meals behind closed doors. You need to learn to think for yourselves, to learn to protect your own rights...”

Lance left them with a few words, hoping they could live well in the future.

On the other side, William also took more and more interrogation records to the Lord, hoping for clear resolution directions.

Because many people actually didn’t know about this matter, they just thought of it as normal allowances, everyone took their share without a second thought.
