Hogwarts: I Am an Exemplary Wizard

Chapter 847: Chapter 718: Snape’s Scar

As expected, by the end of the last Potion Class on Friday, that bottle of Felix Felicis still ended up in Conna’s pocket.

The Polyjuice Potion she brewed was almost perfect, even Slughorn couldn’t find any faults with it.

Although Kael’s was almost as good, compared to Conna, the potion in his Cauldron was a bit darker in color.

This was because he added the Boomslang Skin slightly late, which had no effect on the potion itself. If it weren’t for Conna, he would definitely have been first.

But honestly, neither Kael nor Conna were particularly interested in the Felix Felicis that Slughorn offered as a reward.

Both of them had Felix Felicis, and they also had ways to get it.

It’s needless to say for Conna; as soon as she asked, Snape would certainly not mind getting her a few bottles.

As for Kael, he was already on good terms with Professor Cecily from St Mungo’s Hospital, and considering the Basilisk’s Material he sent before, getting some Felix Felicis was naturally not a difficult task.

So this reward didn’t really attract them much, it was great to get it, but it didn’t matter if they didn’t.

And more importantly, ever since he wore the Ravenclaw’s Diadem last time, Kael kept his distance from things like Felix Felicis.

That feeling of seemingly being able to control everything was indeed a bit intoxicating, Kael was afraid he might not withstand the temptation...

Unless necessary, things are fine as they are now.

...

On the first weekend of the new school year, a misty drizzle suddenly fell from the sky, cold and chilly, but this day was also the day for Quidditch tryouts, and there were many people on the field.

Apart from those who genuinely wanted to join the team, many more were there to watch the excitement, and if possible, perhaps spy on the opposing teams for their own house, killing two birds with one stone.

Since the morning was Gryffindor’s time, Kael didn’t go to the field but instead crossed the grounds with Conna to visit Hagrid’s hut.

He seemed a bit off these past two days, always wearing a stern face, recently not even going to the Auditorium to eat.

Taking advantage of the weekend, Kael wanted to see what was going on.

By the time they reached the vicinity of the Forbidden Forest, Hagrid was absentmindedly watering the pumpkin patch at the entrance.

Inside were pumpkins about the size of cart wheels, which would be used to decorate every corner of the castle come Halloween.

But Hagrid seemed to be thinking about something else. The bucket of water in his hand was all poured onto the same pumpkin, forming a small puddle on the ground.

”Hagrid, if you don’t start paying attention, we’ll have to buy our pumpkins from outside for Halloween.”

Kael called out, and only then did Hagrid snap out of it.

”Oh, it’s Kael, and Conna too,” he greeted while holding the bucket, ”Hello.”

”Hello.” Kael walked up to him and asked directly, ”What’s been up with you lately?”

”I’m, I’m fine...” Hagrid’s eyes darted around as he took a couple of steps forward, readying to water the other pumpkins.

”Come on, don’t you know you’re not very good at lying?” Kael said, ”Also, if you weren’t troubled, why would you be out watering pumpkins in the rain?”

Rain?

Hagrid noticed for the first time that his hair was completely soaked.

”Oh, why didn’t you tell me earlier?” He quickly put the bucket down and attempted to scoop the water out of the puddle with his hand.

”Does rain really need others to tell you?” Kael couldn’t help but mutter.

But seeing Hagrid in such a frantic state, he still took out his Wand and helped clear the extra water from the pumpkin patch.

Although he felt it wasn’t necessary either, Hagrid must have had his reasons, so he helped.

...

”Come on, tell us what’s going on.”

After they returned to the hut, Kael asked again, ”What’s been going on with you lately?”

”I don’t know...” Hagrid said softly, ”Perhaps it was a mistake for Dumbledore to choose me as the Professor of Care of Magical Creatures.”

”Why do you think that?” Conna asked.

”Because only five people have chosen my advanced class this year.” Hagrid seemed to have made a huge decision to say that.

”How many, five?” Conna was somewhat incredulous, meaning only one person from each house chose Hagrid’s class; the number was indeed too small.

Even the Divination Class had more than a dozen people.

”Hagrid, did you set your standards too high?”

”If ’A’ is considered high.” Hagrid sighed.

Kael stopped speaking. ’A’ was just passing, also the minimum standard for the advanced class; there’s truly no way to lower it further.

”Among these five, are there Harry and the others?” Kael asked tentatively.

”Harry, Hermione, Ron, all three of them chose my class.” Hagrid seemed somewhat comforted by this, but couldn’t smile.

This meant that aside from these three friendship votes, only two people chose his class. Thinking of this, Hagrid grew even more upset.

”It must have been a mistake for Dumbledore to make me a Professor!” His voice trembled a little.

”Uh... not necessarily...” Kael said hesitantly.

He didn’t know how to comfort Hagrid either, especially since his help had even contributed to this result.

If he hadn’t insisted that Hagrid abandon the plan to bring Blast-Ended Skrewts into the class, there might not have even been five people, after all, those creatures are quite unpopular.

Kael turned his head, signaling Conna with his eyes to help, but Conna shrugged and quietly turned her eyes away.
