Hogwarts: I Am an Exemplary Wizard

Chapter 842: Chapter 716: Snape’s Double Standards (Part 2)

Kael didn’t expect Snape to suddenly call his name. Looking at the meaningful smile on Snape’s face, he felt a bit uneasy.

He couldn’t possibly be thinking of using the Crucio Curse on him, especially in a classroom.

”So, are you willing to help?” Snape asked softly.

”But Professor...” Conna was getting a bit anxious, but just as she was about to say something, Kael interrupted.

”Of course, I’m willing.” Kael said, ”But Professor, can I use the Iron Armor Spell to resist? You know, when facing Death Eaters, surely no one would just give up.”

”Oh, what are you talking about.” Snape’s tone rose slightly, ”What I meant was, could you help me open the curtains so the students can see more clearly.

”You didn’t think I was going to use the Crucio Curse on you, did you? That’s impossible. You must know, in any circumstances, using the Crucio Curse on others is a serious violation of Wizard Law.

”For that dangerous thought of yours, Hufflepuff loses ten points!”

Watching Snape’s half-smiling eyes, Kael’s mouth twitched.

On purpose, Snape definitely did it on purpose.

It’s just a curtain, Snape could open it with a wave of his hand, how could he need help? Besides, both his expression and tone just now made it seem like he was about to hit him with a Crucio Curse.

”Why are you still standing there?” Snape said again, ”I don’t want to say it a second time.”

”Of course, Professor.” Kael said. He walked to the window as if nothing had happened, opened the curtains, and then returned to his seat.

The classroom instantly became brighter.

Snape casually extinguished the candles and then took a rat from his cloak and tossed it on the ground.

Before anyone could react...

”Crucio!”

Immediately, the whole body of the rat curled into a ball, its limbs pressed tightly against its body, and it rolled over, its body twitching violently, piercing squeals sending shivers down people’s spines.

Everyone clearly felt... pain radiating from the rat.

Some girls couldn’t stand it first, they turned away, not daring to look.

Snape waved his wand again, gently saying, ”Avada Kedavra!”

With a flash of dazzling green light, the rat stopped moving, no scars on its body, but undoubtedly dead.

”The Killing Curse... or also called the Killing Curse.”

Not very pleasant, is it?” Snape said casually, ”But I must say, this is probably the spell you’ll see most often after this. As you can see, it can end any life. If you don’t want to die, you must find a way to avoid this spell.”

”Moreover, don’t think about resisting.” Snape glanced at Kael again, ”When facing the Killing Curse, the Iron Armor Spell is useless.”

Snape waved his hand, and the rat on the ground disappeared.

But the people’s emotions didn’t disappear with it, the whole classroom was eerily quiet, everyone still had the intermittent squeals and the silent figure of the rat on the floor lingering in their minds.

Until...

”Why are you all standing there like dunces?” Snape shouted loudly, ”Why aren’t you writing this down!”

It was only now that everyone snapped out of it and began to search for their quills and parchment, starting to record what Snape had just said.

”Some of you might be confused,” Snape continued while everyone was focused on taking notes. ”Why did I only demonstrate two of the three Unforgivable Curses?

”That’s because the Imperio is the only Unforgivable Curse you can resist with your own abilities. You can completely break free from its control with your willpower, though it’s very difficult.”

”How should we do it?” someone raised their hand to ask.

”I’ll teach you.” Snape said, ”But not right now. Before that, you must be well prepared to learn another spell.

”Now take out your quills and carefully note down every word I say.”

Everyone moved immediately.

”I require you to relax your brains and get rid of the habit of wandering thoughts.” Snape said, ”Especially before sleeping, don’t think about anything extra.”

When Snape mentioned relaxing the brain, Kael already knew that he would definitely teach Occlumency... which is also the most effective means of resisting the Imperio.

But Occlumency is not easy to learn; just look at Harry. With Snape’s one-on-one teaching in the early stages, plus continuous follow-up guidance from the Wampus Cat, it still took him nearly half a month just to get started.

Normally, few professors would take the initiative to teach students such a troublesome spell.

To give credit where it’s due, in the role of Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, Snape is quite competent... if he could change his habit of always targeting me, Kael wouldn’t mind admitting he is an excellent professor.

As for now, Kael temporarily reserves that opinion.

...

By the time Snape finished speaking, half the class had gone by.

Occlumency is not a magic that can be achieved instantly; simply clearing your mind is difficult enough. So, Snape did not plan to waste class time and instead told students to gradually get used to and try it after class.

In the next half of the class, he checked everyone’s usage of basic Defence Against the Dark Arts spells, such as the Disarming Spell, Iron Armor Spell, and Speedy Charm, by random selection.

Snape expected it to be terrible, considering a new professor every year and poor grades being normal. He even had already thought about what to say afterwards.
