Chapter 451: Chapter 37: Contest

”Bang~”

A dull sound came.

Su Changxing sniped the gladiatorial slave running on the street in the distance, as easily as killing an ordinary person. Everywhere he looked was within his attack range.

The lethal combination of ”Concentrating” and ”Gunfire Judgment” was terrifying. Even an Extraordinary of Tier Eight would fall to a single shot if hit in a critical point.

”Stay vigilant, there are too many of these lunatics and we can’t clear them all. We can only push forward.”

Su Changxing turned his head to tell Deng Yiming.

So far, he had sniped seven or eight such gladiatorial slaves, most of them Tier Eight, usually taken down with a clean shot before they realized it.

And once they sensed danger, it would become difficult for Su Changxing to snipe them from a distance, given the complex urban terrain and ample cover.

Deng Yiming, with bloodshot eyes, said:

”We haven’t encountered anyone else so far; I fear the people around here have all been wiped out. These lunatics devour this city like locusts.”

Su Changxing nodded, saying calmly, ”This city is still so large, it won’t die out so easily.”

This was meant to be comforting.

As they moved toward the city center, those gladiatorial slaves seemed to sense danger and started to avoid them, which allowed them to proceed unimpeded.

······

Because killing them would gain him a portion of their points, Su Changxing continually rose in rank on the scoreboard, reaching 238th place.

Many spectators cast incredulous glances; this local was unimaginably powerful, effortlessly killing more than ten other warriors.

”The ’Sniper’ has decent skills, probably at about Tier Seven, but that’s about it. I’d advise against betting on him; the top contenders are definitely stronger,” Steward Lan said eloquently to a group.

They were scions of the nobility, and for such a death match spectacle, they couldn’t miss attending.

A young man dressed in a short robe and adorned with golden earrings asked, ”Does he have a chance to make the top ten?”

Steward Lan straightened his back and said confidently:

”Definitely not, at most the top hundred. And he’s a local, the other warriors will surely target him. Surviving is questionable; he isn’t protected by some of the rules······ No matter what, he can’t survive.”

······

Su Changxing stepped forward to inspect the gladiatorial slave he had sniped. Besides an Extraordinary Crystal he dug out, there was an Iron Token with the inscription, ”Flying Saber, 1101”.

”This must be his rank among all the warriors.”

Su Changxing paused, noticing the inscription on the Iron Token suddenly change to ”Sniper (Local), 238.”

”Why did it change, local?”

He fell silent, realizing the inscriptions concerned him.

The people of Black Fog World had incorporated him into this death match?

Was it that having sufficient strength granted eligibility?

Su Changxing discarded the Iron Token, feeling an obscure surveillance, confirming that the people of Black Fog World were observing the area through some means.

As he prepared to leave, the Iron Token on the ground flickered with a faint white light, like a warning.

”This thing is lighting up!” Deng Yiming pointed out.

Su Changxing frowned slightly, turned back to pick up the Iron Token. The inscription changed again, now several lines of dense small text, like someone’s handwritten notes, crooked and somewhat unsightly.

”The only path before you now is to claim first place in this death match. Only then can you and this world achieve a better outcome. Trust me, do not even think about escaping this area.”

This tone······ Su Changxing remembered the man with the Giant Sword.

”Could it be him?”

Su Changxing placed the Iron Token in his pocket, realizing it was specially sent over to him, but he didn’t know why the other person wanted him to claim first place in this competition.

It seemed to have no practical significance.

He hesitated over following the person’s will, the problem being the other party’s strength was beyond his resistance, akin to a Divine Spirit.

While passing a commercial street, over ten people suddenly emerged from inside, stepping over corpses, shouting:

”Sir, let us follow you. Staying here guarantees death.”

There were both men and women, including a woman in white gauze cradling a baby with a pacifier in its mouth, its large bright eyes blinking, chuckling softly.

Deng Yiming glanced at Su Changxing, saying nothing. Taking them along now wouldn’t be a good move, and might not be safe for themselves.

Su Changxing looked at the people, was silent for a moment, then said calmly, ”We still have a mission. When we leave, we’ll definitely take you.”

Finishing, they fell silent, one even cursing at Su Changxing: ”What kind of soldiers are you, abandoning us at a time like this!”

Su Changxing glanced at him without saying much and signaled to Deng Yiming.

”What’s up, Leader Su?” Deng Yiming asked as he approached.

Su Changxing took a deep breath and said, ”The situation has changed. We need to stay in the city to fight these lunatics······ find a few people to lead them out of here, towards East Forest.”

Deng Yiming grinned at the words, saying:

”Abandoning the people to escape is not what soldiers do; dying on the battlefield isn’t without honor······ if we truly left, we wouldn’t be able to live with it.”

Staying here is surely a dead end. This way, they at least have some path to life. Several armed soldiers could handle weaker monsters.

Now prepared to fight the lunatics, they slowed their advance, focusing more on reconnaissance robots to search for nearby gladiatorial slaves to hunt.

They hunt us, but we can just as well hunt them.

Su Changxing had it clear in his mind: since the rules resembled a death match, the gladiatorial slaves couldn’t unite.

And that was his opportunity, to defeat them one by one.

That should naturally make him the first.

He intended to follow the person’s will. In the face of absolute strength, one must bow their head. This is the humility a weaker person must maintain.

More importantly, what the other offered was a kind of pity from above.

Though Su Changxing didn’t like this attitude, for them it might not be a bad thing, at least providing another path to choose.
