Chapter 116: Chapter 116: The Changes of Two-Faced People

”He’s catching up.”

The voice of the head sounded in his ear, ”Very fast, faster than your current speed.”

Su Changxing kept his head down and ran forward, with the wind whistling past his ears. He hadn’t expected the long-haired man to so decisively chase after him.

A familiar feeling arose, making him suspect he was once again encountering that person who everywhere recognized big brothers, but upon glancing around, he saw no one.

Ultimately, he could only conclude that an ambush might draw more attention; it seemed he had acted rashly once more.

Su Changxing glanced back, about five or six hundred meters away, the long-haired man was sprinting towards him, his figure unnaturally agile, like threads floating in the wind. Centered on him, the zombies’ heads were severed into two pieces, with four or five being cut at once.

Su Changxing ran, pulling a silver-gray flash grenade from his waist, his index finger on the pull ring, ready to detonate it at any moment.

This Hunter’s methods were too bizarre; he had no confidence in facing him, making escape the best option.

This was the last flash grenade; timing had to be perfect to completely shake off this Hunter.

The air behind him rippled as if an arrow-like object was coming. Su Changxing’s eyes widened, and he suddenly turned, deflecting with the steel saber diagonally across his chest.

”Clang~”

A spark flew from the saber’s side, leaving a small notch, while a heavy force transmitted through the handle.

Thread.

It was a real red thread.

Su Changxing realized that what had collided with the steel saber earlier was an extremely fine thread, visible only due to his night vision and excellent eyesight at such close range.

This meant there were several extremely fine threads flying around the long-haired man, which served as his means of attack. Because of the darkness and distance, it was impossible to see from farther away.

Su Changxing envisioned several threads weaving around the long-haired man, visualizing their movement in his mind, watching the threads smoothly slice through the zombie brains.

The information on ”True Knowledge” changed.

[Half Twisted Human: Skillful Tailor of Silk Manipulation, Tier Eight, Healthy, Bloodthirsty. Within a certain distance, his threads might be more formidable than regular firearms.]

”How the hell do you fight that, close combat is out of the question.”

Su Changxing suddenly sped up to escape; even with a gun, his chances of defeating this Hunter were less than twenty percent. The opponent’s physique wasn’t weak at all, and a Tier Eight Extraordinary’s body seemed to be significantly enhanced, except for cases like the little boy who went to extremes.

Just as he was about to pull the flash grenade’s ring, a burst of firelight streaked overhead, illuminating the dark street. The zombies around him became agitated, rushing toward the light.

Looking up, Su Changxing saw a massive fireball gliding across the sky, leaving a four or five-meter-long trail of fire, launched from the building ahead. He could faintly discern a silhouette standing on the balcony.

The fireball shot straight towards the long-haired man, exploding beside him, erupting in a blaze as if igniting oil; embers scattered on the ground, cars, and shrubs.

Surprised by the fireball’s power, Su Changxing felt a dreamlike sensation, as if he were witnessing a movie scene, not too real.

Without pausing, he seized the opportunity to dart into a nearby alley, as three zombies lunged at him from either side. He pushed off the wall with his calf, pulling himself up with one hand, and leapt over the zombies, disappearing into the dark alley.

”Damned rat, doesn’t know when to run away, yet comes back seeking death.”

The long-haired man brushed off the flames on his body, his face full of anger, not significantly harmed but highly annoyed, just as if he were interrupted in the middle of something enjoyable, pants down, by someone suddenly.

This small delay cost him Su Changxing’s trail, making it difficult to find him again.

Zombies surged towards him but fell like standing crops; their attack desire wasn’t as strong as imagined, with distant ones stopping altogether.

”Hmm? Alive again?”

The long-haired man furrowed his eyebrows, glancing back to notice the previously limbless bald man moving quickly in another direction.

Suddenly, it seemed everything had slipped from his grasp.

The long-haired man hesitated for a moment before turning towards the bald man’s direction, a stiff smile creeping onto his face, a smile without real joy, expressing happiness, yet not purely so.

He enjoyed such a chase game, loved the scent of spurting blood, appreciated the prey’s panic and tears, found beauty in slicing a whole thing piece by piece, perhaps it was called the beauty of fragmenting.

Su Changxing breathed a sigh of relief; that terrifying Hunter seemed not to have caught up, likely lacking any tracking method.

Another Mysterious Shop wasn’t far from here, only about two kilometers, which he could reach in ten or twenty minutes at full speed.

Although the long-haired man hadn’t caused him substantial harm, Su Changxing undeniably felt the threat, a threat to his life, the sense that death could occur at any moment.

And who was the person who had just launched the fireball, a member of the Security Bureau, or simply a passerby acting in urgency, or was it Chenxi?

With these thoughts, Su Changxing sped up even further, wielding his saber at quicker paces. His current strength was still insecure; any mishap could lead to his downfall.

He estimated that if luck wasn’t on Huang Biao and his team’s side and they encountered this Hunter, the odds favored a wipeout, uncertain if dispatching them at night was a correct choice.

Over twenty minutes later, Su Changxing arrived beside the next Mysterious Shop, sprinting all the way; while slaying a single zombie was easy, the frequent saber swings caused some strain on his arm, making his grip ache slightly.

The head spoke, ”Is this your destination? Truly a deft method; I detect no clue at all...”

Before the words finished, Su Changxing entered the Silver Gray Space, halting its voice abruptly.

Su Changxing sat on the ground, looked at the stiff head in his backpack, eyes gleaming, brushing his neck’s bronze pendant with his left hand - a Two-Faced image, one side opened, the other closed.

[Two-Faced People: Lower Rank of C crown, wearing it, you remain you, yet there are two of you.]

The so-called C crown referred to the quality level of items; Su Changxing had a rough level order in mind: Rank A Crown, B crown, C crown, Dingguan, Precious, Extremely Rare, Rare.

The Vector Chess was merely a Middle Rank of Dingguan item, while the Two-Faced People was a C crown item, confirming its considerable strength in some respect.

Faintly, he sensed another self within, sleeping, growing clearer with time. The pendant was continually linking with him, or aligning with his position.

It was a bizarre sensation; although he was one person, now there existed three entities: himself, the sleeping him, and the head.

He had connections to the other two, yet the sleeping self and the head were disconnected, making him the intersection among the three.

Su Changxing deemed this certainly was no blessing, but there was no alternative for now. Due to the pendant’s linking, he couldn’t discard it, and because of life-sharing, he couldn’t rid of the head temporarily.

An odd thought struck him... if the sleeping self gained consciousness, could the three of them play lowball? Hmm, but for mahjong, they’d need one more player.
