Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 400: Chapter 390: Going Back to Pick People Up

In this world, Tang Mo had come to see Qi Jiaming as someone quite close to her. After all, there weren’t many foolish young men left who would give up a stable life to protect someone else’s parents. Tang Mo felt that this was a debt she could never fully repay.

This was precisely why she hadn’t told Qi Jiaming about her upcoming plans. She didn’t want him to face any danger, and she certainly didn’t want Mr. and Mrs. Qi to lose their son again.

”I... have a favor to ask you.” Qi Jiaming’s expression was conflicted, and he seemed so guilty he didn’t dare look at Tang Mo.

”Could you help me talk to Boss Yang about bringing my parents over? They don’t need to live inside the base; the residential building next to it would be fine. I’ll take care of their food myself.”

Qi Jiaming was very embarrassed, but after thinking about it all night, he had finally decided to ask.

In this apocalypse, he had traveled a long way, been to many places, and faced countless dangers. There was no place better than the Yang Family Base.

It was like a sanctuary here—everything was so peaceful and harmonious, with not a trace of darkness to be seen.

Besides, Qiao Jin and her parents were here. For some reason, just being in the same place as Qiao Jin made him feel a strong sense of security.

’That residential building housed many military families, so it should be okay to have his parents move in too, right? He would find food for his parents himself.’

Qi Jiaming knew he didn’t have much influence, but with Qiao Jin’s relationship with Aunt Hua and the fact that she could speak directly to Boss Yang, if she helped him, it should be no problem.

’But would Qiao Jin think it was too much trouble?’

Qi Jiaming lowered his head. He felt like he was imposing on her, but he had been away from his parents for so long. In the days to come, he truly wanted to use his own abilities to give his parents a slightly better life.

And what good would holing up at home do? Only by staying here, Qi Jiaming felt, could he truly find his place and do something more meaningful.

”Okay.”

What Qi Jiaming didn’t expect was for Qiao Jin to agree immediately, without a hint of hesitation.

At that moment, Tang Mo felt a pang of self-reproach. She had been so busy with her plan lately that she had been too thoughtless.

’In the days to come, the area centered around the Yang Family Base would become the safest place. Qi Jiaming had done her a great favor; she should have thought to bring his parents over.’

’What’s so difficult about having Boss Yang arrange a place for them? It’s nothing.’

”Let’s go. We’ll head out now.”

True to her word, Tang Mo was ready to leave at a moment’s notice. Despite being up all night, once she decided to do something, she didn’t want to delay for even a second and acted immediately.

”Thank you, really, thank you! I’ll work like a horse to repay you in the future!”

Tang Mo had agreed so readily, it moved Qi Jiaming beyond words.

He had thought that even if Qiao Jin agreed, she would at least hesitate for a moment.

Being able to settle his parents in a safe place while also having an opportunity to fulfill his own ambitions—Qi Jiaming felt there was simply no way he could ever repay her.

Tang Mo said nothing, a metaphorical flock of crows already flying through her mind.

’Work like a horse again? Why did she feel like too many people had said that to her?’ 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

’She wasn’t going to be a cowherd or stablehand in her next life, was she?’ Tang Mo began to worry a little about her reincarnation.

She took Qi Jiaming and flew directly to his home again. With the small airship for transportation, the distance across the same city was practically nothing.

Knowing Qi Jiaming was anxious to get home, Tang Mo picked up the pace.

After all, Qi Jiaming had experience with flying now, and as a superpower user, his physical constitution was excellent. The pressure and speed were no great burden for him.

Soon, Tang Mo arrived back at the place where she had first brought Qi Jiaming home.

It felt as if this was where the whole story began.

The villa was still surrounded by numerous Meat Dragons. This time, Tang Mo planned to make it quick, intending to use her spiritual power to petrify all the nearby Meat Dragons.

The term ”petrify” had been decided on at yesterday’s meeting. After all, not everyone understood spiritual power, and words like ”devastation” and ”sea of consciousness” were a bit too abstract.

In Tang Mo’s opinion, however, ”petrify” wasn’t entirely accurate. While Meat Dragons whose sea of consciousness had been destroyed couldn’t move over long distances and could only shamble in circles, they weren’t completely motionless like stone.

’Oh well, I’ll just think of them as moving rocks,’ Tang Mo decided, choosing not to get hung up on it.

Seeing the horde of Meat Dragons instantly reduced to a dazed and foolish state was incredible to Qi Jiaming, but he was at his doorstep now, and there were more important things to do.

Qi Jiaming walked to the door and knocked.

He couldn’t help but feel a little anxious. Even though he knew his parents had enough food to last until he returned, after so much time, he couldn’t stop worrying that something might have happened to them.

But soon, the door opened.

”Jia Ming! Jia Ming is back!”

The person who opened the door was Qi Jiaming’s mother. Overjoyed to see her son finally home, she quickly ushered Qi Jiaming inside.

”You brat, what took you so long to come back?” Qi Jiaming’s father rushed over as well, looking his son up and down.

”As long as you’re back, that’s all that matters. As long as you’re back.”

Qi Jiaming’s parents’ eyes reddened as they finally spoke these words.

Truth be told, when their son had finally made it home only to rush out again, it was impossible for them as parents not to feel a little upset.

This apocalypse was so dangerous. He had finally returned, so wouldn’t it be better to just stay safely in the house with his mom and dad?

But they knew the son they had raised. That child was kind-hearted and had a strong sense of justice, and he was brave enough to take risks. When he set his mind to something, no one could stop him.

Qi Jiaming’s parents could only hope that their son would be alright and stay safe while he was out. Thankfully, their child had now returned home in one piece.

Qi Jiaming saw that aside from being a bit pale, his parents were otherwise fine. The great weight in his heart finally lifted, and he pulled his parents over to have a seat.

Watching this heartwarming scene, Tang Mo also began to relax.

’It’s good that Qi Jiaming’s parents are safe. If something had really happened to them, my conscience wouldn’t have been clear.’

”You must be Xiao Jin. Come, sit down. Are your parents doing well?”

Qi Jiaming’s mother recognized Qiao Jin, who was standing behind her son, and beckoned for her to sit.

It seemed Qi Jiaming inherited his kindness from his parents. Even though their son had ventured out because of the girl in front of them, his parents were still concerned about the safety of their old friends.

”Don’t worry, Auntie. My parents are both fine. I’m actually here today to bring you over as well.”

Tang Mo said with a smile.

’This is for the best. With genuine old friends like Qi Jiaming’s parents to keep them company, even after I’m gone, Qiao Jin’s parents won’t be lonely. At least they’ll have someone with them.’

”Go where?”

Seeing the confused looks on his parents’ faces, Qi Jiaming quickly began to tell them about the base.

The most important thing right now was to get his parents moving. As for catching up, they would have plenty of time for that later.
