Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 389: Chapter 379: Food

’This world is only going to get worse.’ Tang Mo had come to this conclusion when she realized no one would fight back against the mutant beasts.

Food would become scarcer, and the mutant beasts would grow fiercer. Every day this world existed, it deteriorated. There was no telling when humanity might vanish from the face of the earth completely.

And ensuring Mr. and Mrs. Qiao could live well in such a world was clearly an impossible task.

Therefore, the only way to complete this final mission was to change the world.

’Just how hard is it to change a world?’

Tang Mo’s head throbbed. In her own reality, she was already trying her hardest to change the world, but she was only halfway there.

And in the last world she’d experienced, although the world had indeed been changed, it hadn’t been entirely because of her.

Tang Mo knew very well that in the previous world, if it hadn’t been for that simple, persistent, and resilient teacher, she never would have made it out so easily.

This time, however, she might only have herself to rely on.

’How on earth can I change this world? Am I supposed to grab a megaphone and broadcast to the entire world, telling humanity to stand up and fight the Meat Dragons?’

’No matter how I think about it, it’s just not realistic.’

The family of three reminisced late into the night. It wasn’t until Mr. Qiao and Mrs. Qiao were too exhausted to stay awake that Tang Mo left to find a separate room for herself.

Changing the world was something that could be planned out in the long run, but another matter was right in front of her, and it was urgent.

After returning to her room, Tang Mo didn’t rest. Instead, she organized her things and put on two more layers of thick clothing.

Although Mr. and Mrs. Qiao were in decent physical condition for now, they had been starving for days and desperately needed food.

During their conversation just now, she had even heard both of their stomachs rumbling.

When she was on her own, she could still scrounge some food from Aunt Hua and Qiao Xin. But now, with a family in tow, she definitely had to figure things out for herself. After all, no one owed her anything.

When it came to food, however, Tang Mo wasn’t actually worried. Although she no longer had her Space and had no food on her person...

...she had a small stockpile stashed away in this world.

It was in the stone cave at the foot of the mountain where she had first been trapped.

She had collected a considerable amount of food there. She had calculated the terrain and geography long ago; even if the tunnel entrance opened and the mutant beasts outside got in, they wouldn’t be able to get down to that spot.

And if a few happened to lose their footing and fall, they’d be nothing but a pile of mush by the time they hit the bottom of the mountain, unable to touch her supplies.

More importantly, before leaving, Tang Mo had even left behind some of her spiritual power to protect the supplies. It was moisture-proof and pest-proof, and most crucially, she would immediately sense it if anyone stepped into that protective circle. It was extremely secure.

Now that Mr. and Mrs. Qiao had been rescued, it was time for her to go retrieve some things from her little warehouse.

Night fell. Tang Mo quietly slipped out of the building while no one was paying attention.

Before she left, she used her spiritual power to create a protective barrier at the door of Mr. and Mrs. Qiao’s room.

Until she returned, no one could enter the room, and of course, the people inside couldn’t get out either.

It wasn’t that she was being overly cautious. She had finally been reunited with them after so much trouble; she couldn’t allow any accidents to happen. This was the safest way.

Of all modes of transportation, flying was the fastest.

After all, the straight-line distance through the air was the shortest, and the speed was the greatest.

And Tang Mo’s straight-line flight speed was also incredibly fast. It was just one city, after all. Even though her destination was on the opposite side, a direct flight high in the sky took less than half an hour for Tang Mo to return to the place where she first appeared in this world.

’Moving alone really is so much more convenient.’

When she first brought Qi Jiaming out, she had to consider his body’s endurance and didn’t dare fly too high or too fast.

Later, trekking through the city with the main group, their speed was as slow as a crawling ant.

After her high-speed dash for half an hour, Tang Mo stood at the foot of the mountain and let out a long breath. ’So satisfying.’

At the foot of the mountain, Tang Mo’s little cave was still packed to the brim. Everything was neatly arranged, waiting for its owner.

These were all supplies brought by the relatives of her classmates at the very beginning of the apocalypse.

They were scattered at the bottom of the valley. Even if Tang Mo didn’t take them, no one else could get to them. Wouldn’t that be a waste?

Tang Mo walked into the cave and found three large backpacks, filling each one with water and various foods.

She also carried a large bag in her hand, filled with some daily necessities.

Mr. and Mrs. Qiao had been on the move for so long; it was about time they changed their clothes and cleaned up a bit.

Although survival was paramount, Tang Mo still wanted to do everything she could to improve Mr. and Mrs. Qiao’s quality of life.

Tang Mo worked quickly, and the four large bags of supplies were packed in no time.

After packing everything, it was still early. Tang Mo wasn’t in a hurry to go back, so she sat on the ground and started eating herself.

Since her rebirth, it had been a long time since she hadn’t been able to eat her fill. The past few days had given her a renewed taste of the hardships of the apocalypse.

While it wouldn’t kill her, the feeling of not having enough to eat was far from pleasant.

Carrying the four large bags of supplies and a stomach stuffed full, Tang Mo finally left the mountain with satisfaction. She returned to the building, threw the things on the floor, locked the door from the inside, and went straight to sleep.

The supplies in the cave were still neatly arranged. Even after Tang Mo had taken so much, it still looked packed to the brim.

They lay there silently, their existence unknown to anyone.

Perhaps because she was so exhausted the night before, Tang Mo woke up a bit late the next day. When she got up and left her room, she found that everyone else was already awake.

Many people were lingering outside the door of one room, glancing at it from time to time, wondering when it would open.

”What’s going on?” Tang Mo asked Qiao Xin, who was by the door, her eyes still heavy with sleep.

”Zhao Huan got back last night. He brought a little boy with him, but they haven’t come out of the room yet... Everyone’s waiting for his arrangements.”

Qiao Xin’s explanations were always simple and easy to understand.

”Did you get your parents back?”

Qiao Xin asked, seemingly nonchalantly, but Tang Mo caught the faint glimmer of concern in her eyes.

”I did. They should still be sleeping.”

Tang Mo had returned so late last night that she’d forgotten to remove the barrier at Mr. and Mrs. Qiao’s door. The thought had only just occurred to her after waking up.

It was a good thing no one had tried to enter or leave the room. It seemed Mr. and Mrs. Qiao hadn’t had a peaceful night’s sleep in a very long time either.

Having seen their daughter last night, their hearts were finally at ease, and they were now sound asleep.
