Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 387: Chapter 377: A Smooth Rescue

Zhao Huan had taken on many missions before. This rescue operation wasn’t simple, but he had his own established methods.

Tang Mo had actually been a great help. Thanks to Qi Jiaming, they knew the exact location of the ”bait,” which would make it simple to go in and find the people they needed to rescue.

Of the three, Aunt Hua’s goal was the simplest.

She would wait until Tang Mo and Zhao Huan had completed their tasks, then sneak in and find her husband Yang Ming’s room.

She just wanted to ask him for the truth face-to-face. Having come all this way, she would never leave without seeing Yang Ming.

If she was lucky, she might be able to get out after questioning him. But neither Tang Mo, Zhao Huan, nor even Aunt Hua herself held out much hope for that.

Her resolve was born of desperation; she was prepared to die just to get an answer.

After returning, Qi Jiaming quickly explained the entire plan to George Lin.

George Lin was overjoyed to hear his daughter was still alive—he was happier than he was about his own survival.

”Don’t let Qiao Jin come! You can’t let her come!”

How could a father stand by and watch his daughter walk into danger? To Qi Jiaming’s surprise, George Lin’s initial joy was followed by his firm opposition to the operation.

He refused to let Qiao Jin walk into such a dangerous situation.

Unfortunately, neither he nor Qi Jiaming had any chance of getting out again that day. All they could do was wait quietly for nightfall.

Two in the morning was when people’s guard was at its lowest. Qiao Jin had Zhao Huan and Aunt Hua follow quietly behind her.

’Honestly,’ she thought, ’it would’ve been easier to go alone.’

But since the mission had progressed this far, Tang Mo no longer cared about revealing her true strength to the people of this world.

”You’re a girl, you can’t be in the lead. I should...”

Qi Jiaming had given a rough idea of Qiao Jin’s strength earlier, but as a man, Zhao Huan felt it was his duty to take the lead. How could he let a girl protect him? Especially a girl who was so thin and barely an adult.

But before Zhao Huan could finish speaking, Tang Mo waved her hand, and the guards at the entrance all collapsed, their condition unknown.

Zhao Huan had a superpower, so he knew the girl before him must have one as well.

But a superpower this powerful left him stunned. He swallowed the rest of his unfinished sentence.

’Forget it,’ he thought. ’I should know my place and stop overestimating myself.’

The massive food factory didn’t actually have many people on night watch. Here, people weren’t the most important resource.

In this post-apocalyptic world, the most important resource was always food.

That’s why the key to the food warehouse was held by the man in charge here, while security for the ”bait” and the other hostages was much laxer.

Tang Mo’s group quickly found several keys on the guards’ bodies.

”Qiao Jin, your mother is upstairs. Give me the keys.”

Qi Jiaming and George Lin were already waiting in a nearby corner. The moment they saw the guards go down, the two of them immediately darted out.

”Xiao Jin...” Seeing his daughter again, George Lin was so emotional he nearly burst into tears.

But everyone clearly understood this was no time for a reunion.

”Qi Jiaming, take my dad and get out of here. Meet us at the gathering point from this morning. I’m going to rescue my mom.”

Now that the mission had reached this stage, Tang Mo couldn’t allow a single thing to go wrong.

’I’ve been in this world for far too long. It’s time to go back.’

”Xiao Jin, it’s too dangerous. Let Dad go.”

In George Lin’s mind, Qiao Jin was still his quiet, well-behaved daughter. How could she do something so dangerous?

”Dad, trust me.”

Tang Mo grasped George Lin’s hand.

George Lin had never seen such a determined look in his daughter’s eyes. He nodded subconsciously, and before he could even react, Qi Jiaming was already leading him away.

Qi Jiaming had complete faith in Qiao Jin’s abilities. If there was something she couldn’t do, then nobody could.

After Qi Jiaming left, Zhao Huan, Tang Mo, and Aunt Hua split up.

Tang Mo went to rescue her mother, while Zhao Huan went to find Yang Jiabao.

Aunt Hua, meanwhile, would wait outside for the two of them to emerge safely before she went in.

Aunt Hua needed to find Yang Ming. If he really was a bad person, just as Qi Jiaming had said, then her going in now would only tip them off.

Although Aunt Hua was anxious, she knew the overall mission was more important. She wouldn’t endanger the people by her side.

Qi Jiaming had told Zhao Huan earlier where the ”bait” was being kept, so he found the location with ease.

Fortunately, the ”bait” wasn’t all kept together. They were held three to a room.

Zhao Huan had seen Yang Jiabao’s face so many times that he easily spotted him through a glass-paned door.

Two other children were locked in there with him.

Zhao Huan knew he couldn’t get them out without alerting the guards, so to be safe, he decided to bring out all the children.

Even though they were kids, no one was a fool this deep into the apocalypse. When they saw someone was there to rescue them from this hellhole, the three children followed Zhao Huan out without a single sound.

After leading the three children out, Zhao Huan followed their plan and headed straight back to the gathering point.

Completing one’s own task and then retreating—that was the smartest move.

For Tang Mo, it was even simpler.

Because the hostages were mostly frail women, the elderly, and children, they were all locked together in one large room.

Before entering, Tang Mo used her spiritual power to hypnotize everyone inside. Then she opened the door, found the unconscious Mrs. Qiao, hoisted her onto her shoulder, and walked out. The whole thing was done in one smooth motion, not even taking three seconds.

When Tang Mo emerged, she gave Aunt Hua a meaningful look.

Aunt Hua smiled and nodded back at her.

”I know you’re a capable one, kid. My two children... if you can, please look out for them. I, Aunt Hua, will spend the rest of my life repaying this debt.”

Tang Mo looked at Aunt Hua and, in the end, nodded.

’When you’re out in the world, no matter how detached you try to be, you always end up with attachments.’

Watching Aunt Hua walk into the food factory, Tang Mo shifted Mrs. Qiao on her shoulder and sprinted back to the gathering point to reunite with George Lin.

’Good,’ she thought. ’I can feel she’s still alive. I’ll be able to complete my mission soon.’
