Reborn One Week Before the Apocalypse

Chapter 358: Chapter 348: Strange Beast

”Keep looking at me like that and see if I don’t throw you off.”

Tang Mo was getting annoyed. She shouldn’t have agreed to be his driver; she should have just made Qi Jiaming walk back on his own.

”Okay.”

Ever the perceptive one, Qi Jiaming immediately shut his eyes.

The silence lasted for ten minutes.

”Qi Jiaming, do you think I’m especially cold-blooded?”

...

”Qi Jiaming?”

...

”Qi Jiaming?!”

...

”I told you to be blind, not mute!”

”Right, Boss!”

Having received a clear command, Qi Jiaming finally dared to open his mouth and resume his usual hyperactive chatter.

”Not at all. I think what you did was perfectly normal. If it were me, I wouldn’t have brought a bunch of burdensome strangers along either.”

Qi Jiaming’s family was in business, and the mindset he’d been raised with made him understand Tang Mo’s actions perfectly.

”All those days I spent moving rocks... even if I didn’t achieve great merits, I still put in the hard work. You could say I did my part to open that tunnel. Besides, I’m strong. If we run into trouble, I might actually be of some help. I’m at least a little bit useful.”

Qi Jiaming had a very clear understanding of his own worth.

Tang Mo went back to resting with her eyes closed.

Among the group from the school, the only one Xiao Jin had any real feelings for was Teacher Chen.

After all, back when Qiao Jin was still alive, Teacher Chen was the only person who had ever helped her.

Tang Mo would repay Xiao Jin’s debt of gratitude for her.

Unfortunately, before she left, Tang Mo had asked Teacher Chen, but she insisted on staying with the others from the school. Tang Mo couldn’t force her.

’As for the others, what do they have to do with me? What do they have to do with Qiao Jin?’

Then there were the supplies she had hidden in a cave. Now that she didn’t have her Space on her, she could only leave them there for the time being. She’d have to wait until she had the chance to move them out, bit by bit.

Thankfully, no one else could get in there besides her. She had also covered it with a Protective Shield using her Space, so she didn’t have to worry about the safety of the supplies.

’But not having my things with me really makes me feel insecure.’ Tang Mo was starting to miss her Space.

Since they all went to the same high school, Qi Jiaming and Qiao Jin’s homes were in the same city. They were in different areas, but not too far apart.

Now that she was back in her own city, Tang Mo wasn’t in a rush. She planned to take some time to figure out just what kind of apocalypse she had found herself in.

While flying high in the sky, Tang Mo and Qi Jiaming hadn’t been able to see clearly. It was only as they got closer to the ground that they saw the kind of monster Qiao Jin’s father had mentioned in his letter.

It was a type of mutant beast Tang Mo had never seen before. With a chubby head and a plump body, it looked like a miniature fat dinosaur and only stood about as high as an adult’s chest.

”This thing doesn’t even look scary. I could probably smash several of them with one punch.”

Qi Jiaming had known there were mutant beasts in the outside world and had spent a long time imagining what they would be like. He dreamed that once he got out, he would make a name for himself with his Strength Attribute.

But now that he was actually seeing these mutant beasts, he found it almost laughable. ’These dopey-looking ugly things are what wrecked the outside world?’

Tang Mo, however, didn’t let her guard down. She knew that an apocalypse was an apocalypse for a reason; it would never be this simple.

After flying at a low altitude for a long time, Tang Mo finally began to understand the nature of the apocalypse in the world she was now in.

It turned out that these dinosaur-like mutant beasts, which seemed harmless, were actually anything but.

Because Tang Mo had discovered one of their key traits.

”Why are these dinosaurs eating all the time?!” Qi Jiaming, who had also been observing the ground from the sky, exclaimed.

That’s right. Their key trait was eating.

On the dilapidated and desolate streets, countless such creatures could be seen with their heads down, eating something.

Some were eating human food. Others were eating humans.

The sated mutant beasts looked content, waddling around the streets aimlessly with their big bellies, seeming completely non-aggressive.

But the mutant beasts that hadn’t had enough to eat were different. Their eyes were red, their expressions ferocious. They paced quickly, nostrils flared, searching everywhere for something to fill their stomachs.

”Qi Jiaming, do you have confidence in yourself?”

”Why the random question? Of course I do.”

Although he didn’t know why Qiao Jin was asking him this, as a man, he could never say he wasn’t up to the task!

”Good.”

By now, Tang Mo had already piloted the small boat to a remote area where only two or three of the Dragon-type mutant beasts were standing around, swaying blankly.

Without giving Qi Jiaming any time to react, Tang Mo kicked him right off.

”AHHH!!!”

With no time to brace himself, Qi Jiaming fell and landed hard on the ground. When he came to his senses and looked up, he saw the mutant beast’s enormous head was barely ten centimeters away from him.

Qi Jiaming was so scared he didn’t dare to breathe.

’Are you kidding me? What if this thing opens its mouth and eats me? I just saw with my own eyes that these things eat people!’

But just as the man and the beast were staring at each other, the mutant beast suddenly let out a long huff of air through its nostrils, turned around, and left without a backward glance. It seemed completely uninterested in Qi Jiaming.

”What’s going on? This thing is a picky eater?”

He was scared, but upon realizing he couldn’t pique even a shred of interest in the ugly thing before him, Qi Jiaming still felt a little humiliated.

It seems that regardless of whether you’re a man or a woman, no matter your situation—even if you’re being treated like a meal on a plate—there’s always a competitive streak inside you.

”Let’s go.”

Tang Mo pulled Qi Jiaming back up and flew the small spiritual power ship to another location.

”They don’t eat people? No, that’s not right. Just now, I clearly saw one of those monsters on the street holding a person and chowing down. This doesn’t make sense.”

Even after they had left, Qi Jiaming was still indignant, constantly mulling over what had just happened. ’What’s wrong with me? Why are they so picky? Do they not like lean meat?’

”It’s not that they don’t eat people. They just aren’t hungry yet.” Based on the state of the mutant beasts they just saw, Tang Mo could tell they were completely full.

”So, only hungry mutant beasts eat people?” Qi Jiaming felt like he was starting to understand.

”We’ll know for sure once we test it.”

Hearing Tang Mo’s words, Qi Jiaming shivered. He had a bad feeling about this.

’Don’t tell me she’s going to test it the same way as before... I don’t want to...’

Sure enough, around another corner, Tang Mo found a mutant beast with red, frenzied eyes. And once again, without a moment’s hesitation, she kicked Qi Jiaming off.

”AHHH!!!” A man’s high-pitched scream echoed through the empty streets.
