A Ghost Story Unfolds: The Cannon Fodder Went Mad by Burning Ghost Money

Chapter 83 The Singer, Oh, the Singer 16She had not expected to actually find a good prop.

Lin Xiangjun’s lips curled up slightly as she picked up the lighter.

【Cheap Lighter for Fifty Cents: Can burn in any scenario. Duration: 60s. Uses: 1. A lighter that is guaranteed to ignite, but what use is that? You can use it to light a cigarette to stick on your own grave.】

This was also a D-rank prop.

Although the prop itself was low-ranked, disposable, and its current utility was unknown, that did not dampen Lin Xiangjun’s good mood about buying a prop for fifty cents.

Things like picking up a bargain always brought joy, even if it was just a dime saved.

She stowed the item away in her pouch with a rather good mood.

Her phone vibrated, and she kept her good mood as she checked Zhang Minxian’s message.

”These three clean apartments are all in Building 39. They are the three-bedroom unit at 408 in Unit 1, and the two-bedroom units at 706 and 1206 in Unit 2.”

”I have already booked 408 in Unit 1, signed the contract, and paid the deposit. The Landlady has already left, and I am just about to head to the supermarket.”

Lin Xiangjun immediately instructed, ”Search the apartment now. The shoe cabinet, the living room coffee table, the bathroom mirror... basically, any hidden place. Go search carefully, and if you find a note with rules written on it, bring it to me.”

It went quiet on the other end, and only after quite a while did a picture come through.

Lin Xiangjun immediately opened it to view.

【9. Your neighbors are all very friendly. You can freely exchange food with them and enter their homes after obtaining their permission, but please be careful not to mess up the neighbors’ belongings; you are just a Guest.】

It was slightly different from what she had imagined; there was only one rule on this note.

And this rule itself could not be verified.

Lin Xiangjun recorded the rule in her notebook.

Now she had obtained a total of 1, 2, 6, 7, 9, 14, and 15.

Originally, she could be certain that rules 6 and 7 were wrong, but after doubting the accuracy of rule 15 【Xieyou Alley will not have rainy days】, she could no longer confirm the correctness or error of rules 6 and 7.

Although these two rules looked absurdly wrong, what if? What if these two rules were correct?

A faint sense of irritation welled up in Lin Xiangjun’s heart.

If only she could see through the false rules directly...

She remembered her only unused SS-rank prop, 【Spirit Eyes of the Divine Woman】.

She had originally planned to complete three One-star or two-star instance to accumulate enough uses to unlock the prop before attempting a three-star instance. Who knew that plans could not keep up with changes? She did not have a single prop in her hand that could see through false rules.

Now she was holding a bunch of rules for nothing but could not distinguish the true from the false.

It was just like being starving to death, finally seeing a fast-food restaurant, clutching a handful of Renminbi wanting to buy something to eat and drink, only to discover that this shop in America did not accept Renminbi.

A kind of powerlessness and despair of wanting to spend money but not being able to spend a single cent.

Lin Xiangjun helplessly covered her forehead.

She felt a bit irritated, but had no other solution. She could only tell herself over and over that this was only the first day of entering the instance, and being able to obtain so much rule progress was already very fast.

Now, there were only two things she needed to do: continue looking for rules and find a way to judge whether the rules were right or wrong.

The verification of rule 14 was entrusted to Zhang Minxian, and 15 could be judged by the toilet paper outside the window.

The verification of rule 9 was also not urgent; for now, no neighbor was taking the initiative to knock on her door asking to enter her room or inviting her to their home to play, so there was no need to be too anxious.

What was more urgent were rules 1, 2, 6, and 7.

These four rules were directly related to the ”Songstress,” so evidently, these four rules had the highest importance.

Lin Xiangjun put an asterisk in front of these four rules.

【1. The Songstress likes fresh flowers. After she finishes singing, please place a fresh flower in her hand. If she wears a green dress, give her a yellow flower; if she wears a blue dress, give her a red flower; if she wears a red dress, please give her a white flower; when she wears a white dress, do not give her red flowers, white flowers, or yellow flowers.】

【2. The Songstress will not wear white shoes. If she wears them, please note whether she is wearing a pearl brooch. If not, then she is not the real Songstress. Kill her.】

【6. The Songstress does not like black jackets and black pants. Do not wear such clothing. If you are wearing it, please change immediately, right away.】

【7. The Songstress likes people who love to play. The daytime is very boring; the city at night is more interesting. Explore the unknown to your heart’s content.】

Among these four rules, the seventh one was the most special.

The city at night... it did not seem to refer to Xieyou Alley, did it? After all, a small alley could not possibly be called a ”city,” right?

As for the other three...

Lin Xiangjun sent another message to Zhang Minxian.

”Try to ask the Supermarket Owner about the funeral customs here in Xieyou Alley. Is there a habit of giving flowers to the deceased? What kind of clothes do the deceased wear when they are buried?”

Lin Xiangjun had always suspected that the ”girl” who died between Building 4 and Building 5, whom the Landlady spoke of, was the ”Songstress.”

If the ”Songstress” was already dead...

Although this was still just a guess...

Lin Xiangjun paused for a long time, then sent another message.

”Confirm if ’that girl’ was wearing a blue dress when she died.”

Zhang Minxian quickly sent back, ”Okay, Lin Xiaolin.”

If Zhang Minxian could successfully find out this information, Lin Xiangjun would have a 90% certainty of determining the correctness of rules 1 and 2.

Lin Xiangjun put down her phone and began to think about her next step in the plan.

She now knew that the remaining two clean apartments were 706 and 1206 in Unit 2 of Building 39.

According to the plan, she should have already taken the perfume and sneaked into the apartments to take the rules from the remaining two two-bedroom units.

But now, there was obviously a problem.

She could not confirm whether it was raining outside, or if she should use an umbrella.

If it really had been raining outside the whole time, and it was rain that the human eye could not observe...

Lin Xiangjun shivered, her expression turning serious.

This kind of inexplicable thing that could not even be discovered by people was definitely not a good thing.

Anything that even remotely had a charitable nature would wish to use eight hundred cameras and two thousand flashes to film the action of putting money into a donation box in slow motion and project it onto a big screen.

How could it possibly be done sneakily and unknown to anyone?

Humans could not do it, so could you expect a supernatural entity to do good deeds without leaving a name?

The notification sound for a phone message rang, and Lin Xiangjun pulled back her thoughts.

Zhang Minxian: ”I’ve gone downstairs.”

”It has been raining in Xieyou Alley the whole time; it hasn’t stopped since I left Building 40 to look at the apartments.”

Seeing Zhang Minxian’s message, Lin Xiangjun had a feeling of ”just as I thought.”

”Is the rain heavy?”

”It’s very heavy.”

While sending a message to Zhang Minxian, Lin Xiangjun walked to the window to check her toilet paper.

A long strip of toilet paper was fluttering in the air, dry and crisp, without a single trace of being soaked.
