A Ghost Story Unfolds: The Cannon Fodder Went Mad by Burning Ghost Money

Chapter 62 Discussion AreaWang Min only reserved half a minute for feeding the medicine. Seeing that the time was almost up, she closed her eyes, steeled her heart, pried Lin Xiangjun’s mouth open, and took a deep breath—

She suddenly shoved the medicine into Lin Xiangjun’s throat!

Lin Xiangjun: !!!

She was like a big orange cat that, at death’s door, found out its kittens weren’t its own; she wished she could perform a standing jump and kill everyone in front of her!

What the hell, who feeds medicine like this?! Isn’t this just pure murder for money?!?!

Wang Min didn’t care about Lin Xiangjun’s feelings. Seeing the medicine stuck in her throat, she even used her finger to poke it further down, forcibly shoving the white pill in.

She nearly choked Lin Xiangjun to death.

But even if she didn’t choke to death, it wasn’t far off. She had been so rough that Lin Xiangjun’s throat was burning with pain.

It was only because the effects of the muscle relaxant hadn’t worn off yet; otherwise, she would have jumped up and given Wang Min a beating.

Fortunately, after taking the white pill, that agonizing pain slowly subsided. Lin Xiangjun lay on the ground, adjusting to the fatigue after the physical pain receded, her eyes as heavy as lead.

Slowly, slowly, she closed her eyes and lay motionless on the ground.

”Master, do you want some water... uh, blink if you need it?”

Wang Min called out several times, but Lin Xiangjun didn’t move. Her face was pale, looking as if she were dead.

Dead?!

Wang Min catapulted herself next to Lin Xiangjun.

”Master, Master?!”

Holy crap! It couldn’t be that she fed her master the wrong medicine just now and poisoned her to death, right?!

Wait, wasn’t that medicine issued uniformly by the weird game?

Wang Min’s eyes suddenly widened—

That bastard weird world poisoned the medicine!!!

Her master was killed by the weird world’s poison, ahhh!

Wang Min tremblingly placed her finger under Lin Xiangjun’s nose—

What would she do if her master was dead?

Continue using her master’s card to buy food from the Mall to maintain the household expenses, maintaining the illusion that her master was still alive, and keeping this precarious new home that was just formed yesterday going?

Or... just take the money and run? But she didn’t know the password to her master’s bank card, and she couldn’t open her master’s pouch, so there was no way to take the money and run.

What should she do...

Eh? Wait, Master seems to still be breathing?

Wang Min flipped Lin Xiangjun over and checked her carefully—yes, her breathing was strong, her chest was rising and falling, and while her face was a bit pale, her body temperature was normal—

Not dead, just asleep.

Wang Min: ...

If you’re asleep, you’re asleep, but what’s with falling asleep so suddenly? Even though she was already a ghost, she could still be scared, okay!

But fortunately, Master isn’t dead, so she didn’t have to consider what to do next.

Wang Min silently wiped Lin Xiangjun’s drool on her own thigh, sighed, and dragged Lin Xiangjun by the shoulders onto the bed like an old nanny.

She conveniently covered her with a quilt.

Sleep, it’s been a long day, it’s time to get some good rest.

Lin Xiangjun woke up very early the next day.

She didn’t know if she woke up from hunger or because she’d slept enough. When she woke up, her stomach felt as empty as if she hadn’t eaten in ten years, but she was full of energy, feeling like she could go out for a five-kilometer run and then bike ten kilometers at any time.

The feeling of being both hungry and energetic was truly strange. Lin Xiangjun threw off the quilt, jumped up from the bed, and shouted, ”Wang Min! Is there anything to eat in the kitchen?”

Compared to takeout from the Mall, she was more willing to eat a hot home-cooked meal.

”Yes! Master, there are fresh steamed buns!”

Yesterday, Lin Xiangjun had instructed Gao Xiu to make some convenient food that could be taken into instances. Gao Xiu had thought about it and gotten up early to steam two trays of buns; now she was kneading dough to steam some more flower rolls and mantou.

The buns were still hot from the steamer, and Wang Min brought a plate to Lin Xiangjun.

Gao Xiu made six types of fillings: eggplant and chili, fresh meat, Three Delicacies, di ruan, sauerkraut and vermicelli, and grandmother’s preserved meat.

The Three Delicacies one had some dried shrimp and sesame oil, the fresh meat one had large pieces of shrimp, and the preserved meat was chopped into small pieces, tasting fragrant and oily.

Rural banquets emphasize large portions and being filling and affordable, so Gao Xiu’s cooking wasn’t refined, nor did she care about plating. The food didn’t look as good as in a restaurant, but the ingredients were solid and it was exceptionally satisfying to eat.

The bun skin wasn’t thin, but each one was nearly as big as half of Lin Xiangjun’s palm, and the filling was so full it was about to overflow. She weighed them in her hand; two buns were almost half a kilogram.

Wang Min brought her one of each, so the six together weighed one and a half kilograms. According to her previous appetite, she definitely couldn’t have finished them, but now she not only finished them but also drank two bags of milk to top it off.

Her appetite had evolved along with her body, Lin Xiangjun thought in amazement.

”It’s lucky it’s me, with a big business and plenty of assets. Eating like this is just a matter of adding a bit to the food expenses. If it were anyone else, tsk tsk, the monthly food expenses would be a problem.”

Even if she cooked for herself, a ten-kilogram bag of rice in the Mall still cost fifty underworld currency.

Entering an instance once a month only earns a few hundred. This money has to pay rent to the weirds and maintain daily household expenses; the budget truly left for food is only about two hundred a month, three hundred at most.

With her appetite, one kilogram of staple food per meal, eating three meals of rice a day to be full would require three kilograms, which is one and a half kilograms of raw rice (this amount is inaccurate; the author eats harder rice and thus uses less water, so the resulting cooked rice is less; normal hardness might require about one kilogram of raw rice).

Finishing a bag in about eleven days means three bags a month, costing one hundred and fifty underworld currency. She alone could match the food expenses of a family of three.

After eating and no longer feeling so hungry, she took a set of new clothes to the bathroom, preparing to take a shower.

Now that the urgent matters were handled, she stood under the shower head, thinking about what to do next.

The system didn’t have personal stats, so she had no specific data to judge whether she had been strengthened; she could only estimate based on the state of her body after the pain receded.

Everything else was fine, except for one...

SS-rank prop, [Spirit Eyes of the Divine Woman].

This prop still couldn’t be used, but the [0/3] behind it had changed to [1/3].

Once she figured out that the [3] meant the number of instance entries, Lin Xiangjun understood that to fully possess this prop, she had to enter instances twice more.

But Lin Xiangjun had no plans to enter an instance anytime soon.

She had just undergone a physical enhancement, and now was a good time to consolidate it with some auxiliary exercises. Rather than being eager for quick success and entering an instance immediately, she needed to properly improve her attack capabilities before the next time she entered an instance.

For example, finding a good master to teach martial arts, one with real talent rather than just flashy moves.

Since she didn’t plan on entering an instance soon, this prop couldn’t be unlocked in the short term, so she temporarily set it aside and planned for the more urgent and pressing things—

For example, taking a shower first.

Yesterday, after the constitution enhancement booklet was consumed, she had sweated a lot, and her body had secreted a lot of dark, foul-smelling... whatever it was.

Lin Xiangjun curiously took off her clothes and sniffed them, then was so disgusted she almost threw up the buns she had just eaten.

Whose cesspool exploded on her?!

She must have been starving this morning to only think about eating; how could she have not noticed she smelled this bad?

Lin Xiangjun even admired herself; to be able to eat while smelling this bad, her physical constitution should go and compete with Indians.

Soaking in the bathtub, the fragrant body wash replaced the deadly stench. Lin Xiangjun squinted comfortably, lay down a bit, and picked up her phone.

It was nine in the morning. An hour ago, all remaining humans on Blue Star had already gone through an instance once.

The Forbidden APP had also been upgraded, and the latest feature was the Communication Area.

The Communication Area was divided into three categories: Global, Regional (meaning country), and City.

City was the smallest unit. Although the population had decreased compared to before the apocalypse, the overall number was still terrifying. Messages popped up rapidly, and even with Lin Xiangjun’s enhanced physical fitness, she could barely see them clearly.

Everyone’s emotions were still high. Curiosity and fear of the weird world had not faded; instead, they became more intense because they could communicate without barriers about the instances they encountered.

There were two main points of conversation: the instances they had experienced and the Leaderboard announced by the game.

In the messages they sent, Lin Xiangjun unsurprisingly saw her name again.

A night had passed, and everyone was still tirelessly discussing the number one on the list—Perfect Chrysanthemum Thirty-Six Folds.
