A Ghost Story Unfolds: The Cannon Fodder Went Mad by Burning Ghost Money

Chapter 79 The Singer, Oh, Singer 12”If four people save one hundred, that’s twenty-five per person. With that money, you might as well buy half a bag of rice, right?”

Lin Xiangjun didn’t understand, but that didn’t stop her from crossing her arms to watch the show.

Tiger Wang could understand, but he wished he couldn’t.

In reality, it was Zhang Qi who said that.

Actually, Tiger Wang didn’t remember that it was originally because he had expressed a desire not to spend more money that Zhang Qi had said something like that to curry favor with him.

After all, he hadn’t said the words, and he hadn’t done the deed; even if he had the intention, he hadn’t voiced it.

It was just Zhang Qi acting on his own initiative.

Why should Zhang Qi act on his own initiative, only for him to be the one losing face here?

In his heart, he had already secretly laid this bill at the feet of Zhang Qi and Lin Xiangjun.

Even Li Dongwei—who had been silently following behind him from beginning to end, the last of the four living together, a timid and shy person who rarely spoke—was also held in contempt by him.

If he were of any use and had taken the initiative to come over and negotiate the price with this Old Lady, why would it be his turn to lose face here?

A bunch of useless things!

”Old Lady, we really didn’t know at the time. We’ve encountered too many unscrupulous landlords before, and we didn’t expect to meet someone as kind-hearted and thoughtful as you now. We just couldn’t wrap our heads around it for a moment; it wasn’t intentional.”

”We really haven’t lived in this house for even two hours. Changing to another room wouldn’t be much trouble, and I’ll buy some fruit and visit to thank you properly later.”

Hearing Tiger Wang’s tone, Lin Xiangjun knew this wouldn’t work.

When you’re asking for a favor, whether it’s troublesome or not isn’t up to you to decide; it’s up to the person doing the favor.

Besides, this is not Blue Star.

Because the weird world descended upon Blue Star, productivity dropped instantly, and since everyone didn’t have much underworld currency to begin with, food prices skyrocketed.

Bringing two tomatoes to someone’s house was considered a very decent gift.

But it’s not like that in the instance.

You think you can brush off the Old Lady with two pieces of fruit?

I’m afraid you didn’t notice that the black coat the Old Lady is wearing is cashmere!

You must have been shocked silly by a cheap polyester outfit crackling with static electricity.

Just as Lin Xiangjun thought, the Old Lady didn’t even lift an eyelid when she heard about the fruit.

”I have already handed the contract over to the landlord. Even if you don’t live there now, you still have to forfeit one month’s deposit. Besides, you’ve already moved in, so the rent cannot be refunded.”

Anyway, whether you move out or not, you still have to pay that three hundred in rent.

Then why the hell would you move out?

If you don’t move out, at least you have a room to stay in. If you move out, you’ll really be left with neither a room nor money!

”Old Lady, it’s not easy for us...”

The Old Lady wasn’t interested in his nonsense. Seeing him still wanting to pester her, she immediately turned to leave.

Tiger Wang dared to block Lin Xiangjun, but he didn’t dare to block the Old Lady. For a moment, wanting to block her but not daring to, letting her leave but not wanting her to, he was quite flustered.

The Supermarket Owner finally finished watching the show, and only then did he lazily put away his phone.

”Since the rent for this house can’t be refunded anyway, why not just rent a new room?”

The Supermarket Owner ”kindly” reminded them.

”Anyway, there are three of you sharing a rent. The rooms at Auntie Lin’s place aren’t expensive, and if three people split it, it won’t be much. It’s definitely more cost-effective than living in your current house, right?”

The Supermarket Owner was making sense.

But people from Blue Star were all extremely poor. The money given by the instance wasn’t much to begin with, and they not only had to eat but also pay rent in the real world.

Lin Xiangjun guessed that the rent for the first room had been scraped together by everyone gritting their teeth.

Where would they have the money to rent a second one?

Oh, wait, Tiger Wang should have money.

People on the leaderboard all have money. Some have estimated that even if they don’t accept recruitment from others, just based on the fees for entering the instance, plus food and rent, they could at least save two or three hundred for themselves.

Not to mention the money earned from selling items.

And there were those conglomerate enterprises from before the apocalypse; some of them, upon realizing something was wrong, immediately converted most of their assets into underworld currency.

These underworld currencies, besides being used to maintain normal living needs, were also used to recruit outstanding players to work for them.

Therefore, it was impossible for there to be any poor people on the leaderboard.

”Just rent another room; it’s for peace of mind!”

Tiger Wang was speechless.

Of course, he knew he could rent another room, but the problem was that most of the money for renting another room would have to come from him—Zhang Qi and Li Dongwei had already struggled to pay for this current room.

Not to mention that clean houses were more expensive, and with the Fluorescent Green Short Sleeve dead, there was one less person to split the rent with him.

This house had already cost three hundred underworld currency, and a clean house was one hundred more; with a deposit of one month and one month’s rent, it would cost five hundred underworld currency!

”Old Lady, I...”

Tiger Wang looked at the Old Lady with a troubled expression. Seeing that she was indifferent, he turned his head to look at Lin Xiangjun.

Lin Xiangjun also ignored him.

Should he rent it? He would definitely have to pay the bulk of it.

Should he not rent it?

Recalling just now, when the Fluorescent Green Short Sleeve was chatting with them, he had just laughed twice and said a few words when a black shadow suddenly appeared in the room, lifted him up, and threw him straight out the window!

It was so fast that Tiger Wang had barely had time to take out an item!

The key point was that the person was dead, and they still didn’t know why he died, or which rule he had violated? They had no clues at all right now!

How could they continue living there?

That was simply courting death!

Tiger Wang gritted his teeth and made a decision in his heart.

”How about this, Old Lady, I’ll go back and talk to my friends and scrape some money together. Where is your place? If it’s possible, I’ll come to find you this afternoon to sign a new contract.”

After speaking, he paused and then confirmed: ”You do still have cleaner houses, right? About how much are they?”

”Yes.” The Old Lady looked at Tiger Wang with a smile, but the words she said were not so kind.

”There are currently three houses of the type you want: one three-bedroom apartment, one hundred and twenty square meters, with a rent of four hundred; and two two-bedroom apartments, eighty square meters, both with a rent of two hundred and eighty. The usual rules: one month’s deposit and one month’s rent.”

Tiger Wang cursed inwardly, but he still had to be respectful on the surface as he lifted the door curtain and prepared to leave again.

Watching his retreating figure, Lin Xiangjun’s mind turned, and a plan formed.

”Granny, could you take me to see that three-bedroom apartment?”

”You want to change houses too?” The Old Lady frowned in confusion. The long-handled umbrella in her hand tapped lightly on the ground, like an elegant noble’s cane.

Lin Xiangjun followed behind her, carrying a pile of things.

Upon hearing this, she shook her head like a rattle-drum.

”No, no, Granny, don’t joke with me. I only have eighty in total, and I still have to make it last until my next payday. How would I have money to rent another house?”

”Then what is this...”

”It’s a relative of mine. Their family situation isn’t very well-off, but they are about to have a baby soon, so the whole family wants a slightly bigger house. But you know what the rent is like around here; a decent three-bedroom apartment wouldn’t be anything less than four hundred, so they’ve been looking for a house.”
