A Ghost Story Unfolds: The Cannon Fodder Went Mad by Burning Ghost Money

Chapter 59 Perfect Chrysanthemum Thirty-Six Pink PleatsDong Yuhua and Yang Puxin, who were responsible for cleaning, had much simpler needs.

They only asked for some basic cleaning supplies, but since most of those were consumables, they would need restocking once they ran out.

The biggest issue was the house’s water source. Since it was a vintage-style house, there was only one well in the courtyard. Normally, cleaning required hauling the well rope back and forth, which was not only a hassle, but as paper figures, they were afraid of water; if they accidentally fell in, they’d be ruined by the soaking.

With problems cropping up one after another, Lin Xiangjun felt a headache coming on.

She first bought the cleaning tools, then placed an order on the Forbidden APP for full-house water and electricity services. Because there was a well in the courtyard, water was automatically pumped from it, but electricity had to be paid for separately at a rate of one underworld currency for two kilowatt-hours.

The side room of the east wing was designated as the kitchen, while the side room of the west wing served as the toilet and bathroom. The Forbidden APP not only sold sinks, toilets, and washing machines, but also offered bathroom waterproofing services, which could directly convert the toilet into a dry-wet separated layout.

The fact that paper figures weren’t waterproof or fireproof was also easy to handle. The Forbidden APP sold [Paper Figure Surface Reinforcer]. By spraying a layer onto their surfaces, the paper figures could achieve perfect fireproof and waterproof performance.

It required one bottle per person per application, with a validity period of three years per bottle. It was priced at two hundred underworld currency, the same as the [Directional Soul Summoning Banner], and was also a c-rank prop.

[Paper Figure Surface Reinforcer: This product is a blue liquid, 50ml per bottle. When using, please spray evenly on the surface of the paper figure until the blue liquid turns colorless. The greatest use of a paper figure is to bring back props for you; why do they need to be waterproof or fireproof? A waste of money.]

Lin Xiangjun bought five bottles, one for each of the five paper figures, except for Patrick Star.

All day long, it was either too stuffed to move or suddenly getting over-excited and making a mess of things under the guise of helping. If she didn’t know it could grow, Lin Xiangjun would have set it on fire long ago to let it cosplay as Copernicus.

Besides, high-level paper figures were naturally quite strong; the strength added by this reinforcer wasn’t even as high as its own physical toughness.

Finally, Lin Xiangjun took out the clothes she had previously burned for herself—long sleeves, short sleeves, and jackets, both loose and tight-fitting. She handed these clothes, along with a notebook and a ballpoint pen, to Wang Min, telling her to distribute them as she saw fit. Anything they needed later would be reported to Wang Min, and Lin Xiangjun would only be responsible for the purchasing.

Since Wang Min’s attack power wasn’t strong, Lin Xiangjun decided to let her stay outside the instance as a housekeeper from now on.

A housekeeper.

Thinking of this word, Lin Xiangjun couldn’t help but laugh out loud while lying on her big bed.

Ahaha, the day has finally come where she, Lin Xiangjun, can afford a housekeeper.

She really has the potential to be a CEO!

Should she buy Wang Min a tailcoat for housekeepers? That would look more professional, like ’old money.’

Amused by her own imagination, Lin Xiangjun kicked her legs around wildly under the covers before happily clicking on the Forbidden APP to claim her game rewards.

There were too many things to do and too many gains; only now did she have the time to check the game rewards.

”Player Lin Xiangjun, you have cleared the instance [Who Am I]. Based on task completion and overall game performance, your rating is: S.

An error exceeding the current player’s capability has been detected in the game. The instance level has been upgraded from ★★ to ★★★. As compensation, the player is awarded 2000 underworld currency and the prop [QQ Nienie Hao He Dao Mie Pu Tea]. Compensation has been issued along with the clearance rewards. Player, please check and receive them.

Now issuing rewards: 300 underworld currency, [Qin Jianyuan’s Secret Ham Sausage], [A Strand of Cat Hair], 2000 underworld currency, [QQ Nienie Hao He Dao Mie Pu Tea].

System Chat Area is now open, System Trading Area is now open, Player Homepage modification permissions are now open, Player Clearance Leaderboard is now open. Players can click into the leaderboard at any time to view their own game history.”

Lin Xiangjun slapped her thigh.

”I knew that instance wasn’t a normal two-star instance! It was so hard and full of traps! Damn, there really was a petty person sabotaging me behind my back!”

As for who sabotaged her, there was no need to think; who else could it be but that outsider Stair Ghost?

Lin Xiangjun was just about to complain about the system’s incompetence when she suddenly thought of a serious problem—

This wasn’t just her first instance; it was the first instance for all of humanity. Logically, the first instances should be one-star or two-star difficulty. Only she was unlucky enough to get a three-star one. Even for a regular clearance, the rating for a three-star instance was much higher than that of a two-star one.

Moreover, she had cleared it with the highest rating of S-rank!

Even thinking with her toes, she knew she was bound to be on the leaderboard!

The leaderboard wouldn’t just hang her real name up there, would it?!

This leaderboard was a global ranking, not divided by region!

Thinking about how she was trying to keep a low profile and develop in secret, only to have the system backstab her by hanging her real name on a global leaderboard, Lin Xiangjun’s toes curled in embarrassment, and she wished she could bash her head against the ground!

With a feeling of despair, she clicked into the leaderboard—

”Player Lin Xiangjun is opening the leaderboard for the first time. Click confirm, and the system will record your information and rank you based on your game history. Do you confirm entry into the leaderboard?”

”No! No! No!”

Lin Xiangjun quickly closed the chat box, then let out a long sigh of relief and lay back down limply.

Thank goodness, her reputation was still intact.

The weird world had just begun, and the influence of people and powers from the previous era of peace still remained.

Her name wasn’t extremely common; there shouldn’t be too many people in the entire Huaxia with the same name. Besides, the internet and such hadn’t collapsed yet; it wouldn’t even take a day to track her down.

It wasn’t that she thought too highly of herself, but rather that after becoming wealthy, she finally understood a bit of how rich people think.

When you have money, you don’t want to do the work yourself; you want employees. Having Wang Min wasn’t enough; she wanted more professional employees, like Gao Xiu, who was better at cooking.

However, having Gao Xiu still wasn’t enough. Now she wanted paper figures with stronger attack power, better intelligence-gathering capabilities, and better support abilities.

She wanted stronger employees to assist her so she could continue to go further in the instances.

She had only been rich for two days and already had such thoughts; wouldn’t those top-tier wealthy people whose families had been rich for generations think the same?

A newcomer who could achieve an S-rank rating in their first game had infinite strength and potential. If those financial magnates caught her, they would be desperate to use a hydraulic press to squeeze every last drop of oil out of her.

Enter an instance once a month? What a joke. How slow would that be for accumulating underworld currency and props? It would have to be once a day, twice a day, or even three times a day! All the underworld currency and props brought out would have to be handed over! Wherever there was a high-difficulty instance, she’d be thrown in—Dead? If she died, they’d just find the next exceptionally talented person.

Now was not the time to expose herself, Lin Xiangjun thought. Once she was caught by anyone at this stage, the underworld currency and props on her would allow them to complete their first wave of explosive wealth accumulation, directly completing their expansion in the early stages of the weird world’s descent.

This was a temptation that no one could resist.

If Lin Xiangjun were a financial magnate, she wouldn’t be able to resist it either.
