A Ghost Story Unfolds: The Cannon Fodder Went Mad by Burning Ghost Money

Chapter 60 Perfect Chrysanthemum Thirty-Six Pink Pleats”I haven’t even started enjoying a wealthy life, yet I’ve already picked up the bad habits of the rich,” Lin Xiangjun chuckled self-deprecatingly.

She hadn’t even learned to walk steadily yet, and she was already thinking about running?

Pulling her thoughts back, Lin Xiangjun clicked on her personal homepage.

The homepage was no different from QQ or WeChat. From top to bottom, it displayed the personal avatar, name, gender, region, Taboo Account, and signature.

The avatar was the same ugly headshot from her ID card.

The name was her real name, Lin Xiangjun.

The region was the Huaxia District.

The signature was blank, waiting to be filled.

After a moment’s thought, Lin Xiangjun changed her avatar to a grassland under a blue sky and white clouds—the default Lenovo wallpaper.

As for the name...

After trying a dozen common names only to see ”This name is already taken,” Lin Xiangjun’s anger flared. she directly entered her old Prophet White exchange code—

Perfect Chrysanthemum Thirty-Six Folds.

”Name change successful.”

Those three words caused her anger to recede, and her rationality began to take over.

Lin Xiangjun stared at her name in shock.

Next to the blue sky and white clouds avatar were five pitch-black words—

Perfect Chrysanthemum Thirty-Six Folds.

Perfect Chrysanthemum Thirty-Six Folds?

Perfect Chrysanthemum Thirty-Six Folds?!?!?!

She leaped up from the bed, letting out her first tragic scream since the descent of the weird world:

”Holy crap, no way!!!!”

It was over!

Her name! Her dignity as a powerhouse!

It was all over! All over!!!

Huaxia Special Security Bureau.

In fact, this organization had existed in Huaxia for a long time. It was previously responsible for handling incidents that couldn’t be shown to the public or explained by science. Their recruitment had been quite discreet, with most internal staff being famous folk occultists or family heirs.

In the past, the existence of the Special Security Bureau couldn’t be discussed openly, and the annual funding provided by Huaxia wasn’t much, so it wasn’t highly regarded.

Until the weird world descended.

The status of the Special Security Bureau skyrocketed overnight, soaring straight into the heavens!

The Special Security Bureau was filled with talented individuals capable of handling supernatural events. While they faced many constraints in the real world, they could truly cut loose in the weird world.

Among the 349 employees, excluding those with nepotistic ties or empty titles, the rest were genuinely skilled. In one game of the weird world, a full 300 people survived.

Three hundred people!

And their clearance ratings weren’t low either!

The lowest was a B-rank rating. In addition to the basic underworld currency, the system also rewarded them with a small item.

Compared to the disastrous results of other departments, the Special Security Bureau, which had been overlooked for decades, suddenly stood tall. Director Director Yan Yushu hadn’t lowered his head once since emerging from the game.

The Huaxia government quickly realized the severity of the weird world and the importance of the Special Security Bureau.

An observation group specifically for players was immediately established within the Special Security Bureau.

Five people were specifically assigned to monitor the Huaxia players appearing on the rankings. As soon as one showed up, they would execute a full-service plan: add them as a friend, play the emotional card, offer benefits, and invite them to join the Special Security Bureau.

Fang Hongyu was one of the employees responsible for monitoring the rankings.

The rankings only displayed the top one thousand players globally. He was responsible for watching the top two hundred. Once there was a change, he would immediately report the player’s name.

In the twelve hours after the instance descended, the fluctuations were at their peak, and he had been shouting non-stop.

But now, twenty hours had passed since the instance’s descent.

Compared to the beginning when there were still records from one-star instances, the rankings were now filled with two-star instances. The top ten were all S-rank ratings, and everyone after that was A-rank.

The names on the rankings had basically stopped changing. Fang Hongyu maintained a refresh frequency of once per minute, but the rankings hadn’t changed after a dozen refreshes.

Currently, the number one player in the world was a woman named ’Annie Potsdam Chandler’. Perhaps because people abroad preferred using selfies as social avatars, Annie Potsdam’s avatar was of herself.

She had golden-brown wavy hair that reached her chin, wore nude lipstick, and had a black line outlining her lips—it seemed to be a popular makeup style over there. She was posing with a black handgun, looking like the type that would be very popular on social media.

If only there wasn’t a human finger stuffed into the barrel of the gun.

Fang Hongyu let out a long yawn: ”Do you think someone will knock her down?”

Qi Qianfan, sitting next to him, caught the yawn and yawned as well.

”No way. She already has an S-rank rating in a two-star instance. Even though the second-place spot has changed three times, she hasn’t moved. She must have completed some hidden mission in the instance. Even if someone else clears a two-star instance and completes a hidden mission, their score would at most tie with hers for first place.”

”The system’s ties for first place are sorted alphabetically. Her name starts with ’A’. Even if there’s a tie, they’d have to be behind her, right?”

Qi Qianfan yawned again.

”Just four more hours and we can get off work and rest. It’s a pity there’s no more food delivery now; we can only eat at the cafeteria.”

Cafeteria food wasn’t as good as delivery.

Normally, she would definitely look down on it, but after eating instance food for three days, Qi Qianfan felt that the cafeteria food was a gourmet delicacy.

”Let’s go eat in a bit...”

”Holy crap, it refreshed!” Fang Hongyu suddenly shouted. He pointed at his phone screen, his fingers trembling uncontrollably. ”The first place has changed! Annie Potsdam has been pushed down!”

”The new number one has a blue sky and white clouds grassland avatar. Let me see... Holy crap, it’s one of ours from the Huaxia District! Ahaha, the heavens have eyes! Their name is Perfect Chrysanthemum Thirty-Six Folds!”

Fang Hongyu pointed at the phone and shouted at the top of his lungs. Seeing that Qi Qianfan wasn’t moving, he anxiously gave her an elbow nudge: ”What are you staring for! Search for them! Contact them!”

Qi Qianfan: ”...What did you just say their name was?”

”I was so loud, you didn’t hear me? Are you deaf? Perfect Chrysanthemum! Thirty-Six... Folds?”

His voice grew softer with each word, and by the end, even he fell silent.

Looking at the name of the powerhouse in first place, he doubted for the first time if he actually knew Chinese characters.

”...Is it because we’re too filthy-minded that we’ve misunderstood? Is it possible that this ’chrysanthemum’ is just, I mean if, perhaps, the flower itself just has folds after it blooms?”

Qi Qianfan reached out and covered Fang Hongyu’s mouth.

”Stop talking. The more you say, the filthier it sounds.”

The two of them stared at the phone screen in a silent daze.

However, before they could contemplate life clearly, others had already started buzzing with discussion.

After all, Fang Hongyu’s shout just now had been incredibly loud.

It was impossible not to hear it.

There was also another reason...

This name was truly... too something...

”Who would come up with a name like that?”

”I bet the person on the other end is a total top.”

”Then you’re wrong. This powerhouse’s homepage clearly states it: gender female. See?”

”Then this powerhouse just has unique taste, unlike us mortals.”

”Hey, hey, stop obsessing over the name and look at the record! How is the record a three-star instance? Holy crap, and an S-rank clearance?!”

The name was so explosive that people were initially shocked by the thirty-six folds. It took a moment for them to realize that this powerhouse’s record was also incredibly brilliant.

A three-star instance!

Currently the only two clearers of a three-star instance!

”The cleared instance name is [Who Am I]... It’s the same instance as that Wang Guiying ranked 923rd.”

Quite a few players participated in the [Who Am I] instance, but except for Wang Guiying and Perfect Chrysanthemum Thirty-Six Folds, everyone else’s record showed a two-star instance.

Only for these two did the instance show as three-star.

An instance’s rating could increase due to uncontrollable anomalies. This was information one of their team members had gained through personal experience. Fortunately, he was only in a one-star instance, and although it mutated into a two-star instance, it wasn’t impossible to clear with some effort.

It’s just that the probability of such a mutation wasn’t high.

If nothing went wrong, the two of them should have come out of the same session of the same instance.

Fang Hongyu and Qi Qianfan exchanged a look, realizing that things were not simple, and immediately reported it to their superiors.
