A Ghost Story Unfolds: The Cannon Fodder Went Mad by Burning Ghost Money

Chapter 67 New DungeonThe new instance Lin Xiangjun had her eye on was a single-player one called ”Angelina’s Tea Party,” with a difficulty rating of two stars.

According to the communication zone, players only needed to gather tea leaves, sugar cubes, milk, desserts, and a beautiful antique tea set before the tea party began to start a lovely afternoon tea with Angelina.

The feature of this instance was that Angelina’s tea had special effects. Players who had participated had gained faster speed, greater strength, or even enhanced vision... In short, the difficulty was not high, and the benefits were quite numerous.

Moreover, this instance was only about ten kilometers away from Lin Xiangjun’s home, not too far, and it would be quick to get there by taxi.

You ask why she didn’t drive herself?

Of course, it was because she didn’t have her own exclusive driver!

This was something Lin Xiangjun only found out later; even if she had a Tribute Card and her own car, she didn’t have an exclusive driver—that is, a driver certified by the taxi company with a driver’s license.

The car could be driven, but it was easy to drive right into an instance.

Only when driven by a certified driver would the instance not descend onto the taxi.

Even with money, Lin Xiangjun hadn’t thought of this. There was no other way, so she had to take advantage of the fact that she was entering an instance today and let Aunt Bai go get a driver’s license.

This job was quite suitable for a paper figure. It didn’t matter if they died in the instance; they weren’t living people, so they wouldn’t be polluted into weird things in the instance. If their bodies were destroyed, they would just return to the state they were in before being summoned.

Lin Xiangjun still had a stack of paper figurine cards, as well as Aunt Bai’s detailed identity information. At worst, she could just summon her again; losing a bit of underworld currency was no different from losing nothing.

However, whether or not she could pass the test was a matter for next time. This time, Lin Xiangjun had no choice but to honestly call a taxi.

The Forbidden APP was made very comprehensively, as if it had merged all kinds of app functions on the market—of course, these functions required underworld currency to unlock.

For a pauper, the Forbidden APP was still just trash with only payment and communication functions.

Unlocking a function didn’t cost much, with the cheapest being five hundred underworld currency.

Lin Xiangjun unlocked the map, navigation, and taxi modules, each costing five hundred.

In addition, she also unlocked the highest-level instance time module—after entering an instance, the phone would automatically switch to instance time, and it would not be subject to any interference, with the time always being accurate.

This was more expensive, costing twenty thousand.

But it was worth the price.

”Hello, Miss Lin, with phone number ending in 0938, is this the Forbidden taxi you booked?”

A black and red taxi stopped at the entrance of the village.

The taxi couldn’t enter the village, so Lin Xiangjun waited at the entrance. After confirming the license plate number on the APP was correct, she opened the back door.

Although the exterior color scheme looked like that of an edgy teenager, the interior of the car was clean and tidy. Except for a fence-like partition between the front and back seats, it was no different from an ordinary taxi.

”Driver, go to Duzao Village, Taqing Road, to a coffee shop called Coffee Time, please.”

”Got it!”

The driver stepped on the gas, and the car emitted a teeth-gritting, delinquent-style engine roar, then shot out like a cannonball—

Lin Xiangjun was pressed against the seat back by the recoil.

She struggled to fasten her seatbelt.

”Driver! I’m not in a hurry, please drive slower, slower!”

”No need to slow down, nothing will happen! Miss, look at how many cars are on this street? The whole road is ours to drive on!”

This was true.

Furong Village was originally Furong Garden Cemetery, and the surrounding area was desolate. Previously, there were a few sporadic stalls on the road, but after the weird world descended, everything was gone, and they were the only car on the wide road.

This was Lin Xiangjun’s first time going out since the weird world descended, and she looked around with some novelty.

”Since the weird world descended, has the street always been this empty?”

”Of course, nowadays, who would go out without urgent business? Staying at home can save your life. If you go out, you might accidentally enter an instance. Isn’t that just courting death?”

Lin Xiangjun also adapted to this speed. She took her hand off the armrest: ”Are there many people using the Forbidden APP to book cars?”

The driver was a young man who should have dyed his hair yellow before, but because he hadn’t dyed it for a month, a layer of black hair stubble had grown at the roots.

He scratched his head and said with a smile: ”A lot. Miss, this is your first time going out, right?”

”Now many people have found the instances they want to go to in the communication zone and have also bought relevant clues from players who have been to the instances before. People like this basically take taxis when they go out; otherwise, if they are sucked into other instances on the way, the money for information is wasted and the preparation is also in vain.”

Lin Xiangjun raised an eyebrow and didn’t say much.

She also found the instance she wanted to go to in the communication zone, but she didn’t buy any instance information.

The weird world had only just descended, and people didn’t yet know that instances changed according to a person’s subjective consciousness.

The more you know about an instance, the more detailed it is, the greater the difficulty of the instance will be for you.

This kind of difficulty is targeted, targeted only at players who have knowledge of the instance, but this targeting is not obvious. To people, or even the player themselves, it seems like pure bad luck.

This was a conclusion that players gradually reached three months after the weird world descended.

So when Lin Xiangjun looked for instances, she only needed to know the difficulty of the instance, what she could get from it, and the general direction of the instance.

This was something people had experimented with in books, and it basically wouldn’t affect the difficulty range of the instance.

Even if there was an impact, it was the difference between three grams of salt and three point one grams of salt in a bowl of rice, basically unnoticeable.

”We drivers, although we are a bit tired and earn a bit less, we won’t be pulled into instances.”

”And the Forbidden APP gives preferential treatment to human drivers. Drivers can choose whether to accept passengers of a different race than themselves. Like me, I don’t have much ability and don’t want to earn that much money, so I only pick up us humans. Fewer orders is fine, safety first.”

The driver dropped Lin Xiangjun off in front of the coffee shop and said goodbye to her with a smile.

Lin Xiangjun paid the twenty-yuan fare and gave another twenty-yuan tip.

She liked the atmosphere where everyone relied on their own efforts to survive, which made her feel happy, and she always felt that society hadn’t reached the point of no return.

This street was empty, and except for Lin Xiangjun, there were no pedestrians. All the shop doors were closed, and a thin layer of white fog had risen on the street.

Lin Xiangjun suddenly felt a little uneasy in her heart.

The street was too quiet.

She suppressed the strangeness in her heart and walked quickly towards the coffee shop.

The coffee shop was only two or three meters away from the roadside. Just as she took a step, suddenly, a shadow like wind rushed through her body!

Lin Xiangjun was greatly shocked in her heart.

She had just looked at the street and there was clearly no one there; where did this shadow come from?!

However, before she could think about it, her vision suddenly went black—
