After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Felix Finch nodded emphatically. ”Captain Lucas and his people helped Xingxing and me a lot.”

’What a coincidence.’

Nina Jacobs was also a little surprised.

”They’ve taken the Antidote, but they’ll still need to rest for a few days.”

”I’ll leave arranging for them and the others to you,”

she said, gesturing toward the still-dazed Minerva Whitman and the others.

Surprisingly, Raphael Chase even recognized Marcellus. Apparently, Marcellus had been the one to advise them against going to Lornwood Base back then.

”Don’t worry. I’ll report to you as soon as they’re settled.”

Felix Finch guessed Nina Jacobs was tired too.

But Nina Jacobs didn’t go back to rest. Instead, she went to The Aquifer.

The Aquifer was lined with a long row of water storage tanks, and every single one was full.

Mirelle Keller was sitting on a two-meter-high platform, releasing water into the tanks below. She waved to Nina Jacobs.

”I was starting to think you weren’t coming back today.”

Mirelle Keller was in charge of renovating the base’s interior, so she had barely used her Water Element Superpower all day. Coming here to release water was a way to avoid letting it go to waste.

”I just got back. Your renovations are looking good.”

When Nina Jacobs returned to the base, she noticed it had changed, starting right from the entrance.

First, the black metal gate was gone, replaced by two massive, deep-red city gates.

The gates were made from a combination of various Superpowers, with the outermost layer coated in the special material Achilles Renner had used before.

The large, silver words ”Tomorrow Base” above the gates were incredibly imposing.

Coupled with the slightly upturned, stone-carved eaves added to the rooftops just inside the entrance, the originally cold Gralem Prison now had a completely different feel.

Mirelle Keller smiled. ”I have to say, having Superpower Users around is so convenient. You just give them a blueprint, and they can create the real thing in an instant. It might only be an eighty-percent match, but it’s more than enough.”

”What about you? Did you go to Lornwood Base today?”

”No, I just ran into some people on the road.”

Nina Jacobs told her about meeting Genevieve and her group of ordinary people.

”Just as I thought. The fish rots from the head down at Lornwood Base.”

”Even back at Pyralia, Wren never treated ordinary people like that. They scavenge for supplies and kill zombies, doing just as much work as any Superpower User.”

After hearing this, Mirelle Keller felt even more strongly that Tomorrow Base needed to speed up its expansion.

”I heard from Felix Finch earlier that the base’s water supply system could be activated tomorrow. I can’t believe it’s true.”

She had been gone for a day, and The Aquifer had already accumulated so much water.

Mirelle Keller smiled. ”This is a time for everyone to work together. Even the Water Element Superpower Users who weren’t very optimistic at first have been giving it their all these past two days.”

”Oh, right, and that Water Element cat of yours is no less capable than any Water Element Superpower User.”

”Lexy?”

Nina Jacobs said goodbye to Mirelle Keller and returned to her quarters.

The moment she pushed the door open, she saw a person and a cat waiting for her right at the entrance.

MEOW.

Lexy eagerly padded over to Nina Jacobs’s feet.

”Are you hungry again?”

Nina Jacobs seriously suspected the person and the cat had been starving themselves.

However, after she took out some ready-made hot food and a few cans of cat food, Lexy only ate one can.

Wayne Warner ate even less. The two of them, person and cat, just sat to the side and watched her eat.

”Looks like you two were just bored,”

Nina Jacobs said. ”I’ll take you out the day after tomorrow. I have to go out by myself for half a day tomorrow.”

She planned to officially enter Lornwood Base the day after tomorrow.

Wayne Warner sighed, then got up and began mopping the floor in coordination with Lexy.

They continued until the floors in every room were mopped to a brilliant shine by the duo.

They had even drawn her a bath.

”Alright, Lexy. When you have extra, you can fill these up.”

Nina Jacobs took out several water cooler jugs from her storage and placed them against the wall.

She also took out two new, large water storage tanks.

By the time Nina Jacobs woke up the next morning, she found all the containers had been filled with water.

”You’re amazing.”

Nina Jacobs couldn’t help but ruffle Lexy’s fluffy head.

Lexy seemed to want to go out with her, but Nina Jacobs pushed him into Wayne Warner’s arms.

She could appear as Claire Warner, but Wayne Warner and Lexy could not.

As she reached the top of the stairs, she found Tristan Lynch and his group seemingly waiting for her.

”Miss Jacobs, we’ve completed the task you gave us yesterday.”

”Today, we plan to continue with the remaining locations,”

Tristan Lynch said.

Lachlan quickly added, ”We also printed ten thousand flyers as you requested.”

”I’ve already posted them along all the main roads.”

”What do you think we should do next...?”

”Good work. Keep it up today.”

Nina Jacobs had almost forgotten about them.

Seeing they all had various minor injuries, she took out two boxes of medicinal powder for bruises and sprains from her backpack.

”Use this on your injuries. Don’t be sparing with it,”

she told them.

They were still members of the Aegis Conclave, after all. Giving them Blood Stopping Spray was out of the question, but she had plenty of conventional medicine like this.

”Thank you. Miss Jacobs really looks out for us,”

Tristan Lynch said, touched, as he accepted the medicinal powder.

Achilles Renner used to ignore them completely.

Felix Finch had been managing the base for the past few days, but they would never bring themselves to report their work to him.

Besides, they knew who the real boss of Tomorrow Base was.

As Nina Jacobs left the base, she noticed that the checkpoints she had set up a few days ago were now all surrounded by fences.

They were marked with signs that read: ZOMBIE TRAP. UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL KEEP OUT.

She heard that Felix Finch had ordered it done to prevent people from accidentally destroying the traps she had made.

The roads further ahead had also been cleared, and directional signs for ”Tomorrow Base” had been put up.

These were all things she had mentioned offhandedly to Felix Finch before. She hadn’t expected him to get it all done in a single day.

”He’s certainly a man of action,”

Nina Jacobs muttered to herself.

On the way to the meeting point, Nina Jacobs found a deserted spot to switch vehicles, then activated her ”Facial Adjustment” Skill to change her appearance to that of Claire Warner.

Sure enough, before she even reached the location, she saw a group of people waiting by the side of the road from a distance.

”You are...?”

Genevieve asked, her tone uncertain.

”She had something to take care of today, so she couldn’t make it. I came alone.”

”My name is Claire Warner, a Space Superpower User.”

”I’ll be your trading partner today.”

After getting out of the car, Nina Jacobs sized up the people who had come. In addition to the ones from yesterday, there were a few unfamiliar faces.

She guessed they must be the Space Superpower Users.

After hearing this, Genevieve exchanged a look with the others.

The vehicle was indeed the same one from yesterday, and this Claire Warner was here all by herself.

It clearly wasn’t a trick.

”It’s dangerous here. Let’s go over there.”

Genevieve and her group had already prepared to conduct the trade inside a roadside farmhouse-style restaurant.

”These are our Space Superpower Users.”

”We’re all on the same side.”

After the introduction, Genevieve had one of the Space Superpower Users take out the Crystal Cores from their space.

There was a large number of Crystal Cores, all separated into various plastic or cloth bags with names written on them.

”A lot of people still don’t quite believe we can bring water back, so they were only willing to give up a portion of their Crystal Cores.”

”But there are also many who do believe in us.”

After Genevieve finished explaining, another Space Superpower User behind her directly took out several large storage containers filled to the brim with Crystal Cores.

”Are you really willing to sell us water?”

This Space Superpower User looked very young, like a girl of about fifteen or sixteen.

She asked, looking at Claire Warner before her with a timid gaze.
