The woman laughed, too.

She pulled a car out of her dimensional space. ”A bunch of idiots. Did they really think we were going to take them out to find water and supplies?”

”I know, right? I can’t believe them, nagging us every single day.

Director Palmer must have had no other choice but to let us come out and ditch them,”

the man grumbled in dissatisfaction.

”I just wonder where Lily and the others went.”

The woman peeked her head out and looked around before getting in the car.

”Who cares about them? It took a lot of effort for me to get assigned to the same team as you today. How about we find a deserted spot up ahead and spend the day there?”

The man suddenly hugged her from behind.

”Samuel Valentine, so you’re the one who deliberately ditched Lily and the others.”

The woman didn’t push him away, just laughed with feigned anger.

’No wonder when the zombies appeared just now, that guy Valentine kept pulling me in this direction.’

”Anyway, we’re just out here to put on a show. We just have to go back when the time’s up...”

The two seemed unable to wait, and the car sped away.

Sitting in her car, Nina Jacobs felt like she had just stumbled upon some baffling drama.

After all, she had no idea who those two were.

’Is it because this place is too far from the base that there are no decent people around?’

Although this was the main road to Lornwood Base, it was still quite far from it.

Just as Nina Jacobs was considering whether to move to a different spot, she heard a crash.

It was immediately followed by the roar of zombies.

Not far away, a car had smashed into the traffic island at a three-way intersection.

Two Mutated Zombies were close behind, pouncing toward the vehicle.

”I’m right here! Come and get me if you’ve got the guts!”

Two more cars had followed behind. A man jumped out of one and yelled provocatively at the two zombies.

The two Mutated Zombies were indeed drawn to the man on the ground. They roared and turned to run at him.

At that exact moment, an arrow shot out from a car window, striking one of the zombies square in the temple.

The man, meanwhile, faced off against the other zombie.

Nina Jacobs could tell that the man was likely an ordinary person with no Superpower.

But he was clearly very experienced. Even though he was facing a Wood Element Mutated Zombie, it couldn’t get close to him at all.

A short-haired young woman holding a crossbow climbed onto the car roof and took aim at the zombie below.

The crossbow arrow hit its mark instantly.

After the two Mutated Zombies were dealt with, everyone else got out of their cars to check on the situation in the first vehicle.

”Ms. Ulrich’s thigh is injured! What do we do?”

The car that had crashed was severely damaged, and two people inside were covered in blood.

”It’s too late to go back to the base now.”

”If only Samuel Valentine and his group were here. I remember Director Palmer reminded them to bring Hemostatic Medicine.”

”Don’t you guys think something is off?”

At that moment, the woman with the crossbow spoke up.

”The moment the zombies appeared, all those Superpower Users ran off,

It was like they’d planned it.”

”Genevieve is right. As soon as trouble started, those Superpower Users ran faster than any of us.

Even if we don’t need their protection, they didn’t have to do that, right?”

A young man squatted by the roadside, grumbling.

”What can you do? They’re the Superpower Users,” a man said, his voice full of regret as he knelt and checked on his injured companion.

”This injury... we probably have to get back to the base to treat it. Otherwise, she’ll bleed to death out here.”

”Don’t worry about me. We all had such a hard time getting this far. If we go back without finding anything, it’s a dead end for us anyway...”

The woman known as Ms. Ulrich said through gritted teeth, enduring the pain.

A long shard of glass had pierced her thigh, and blood was still flowing, making her already pale face even more colorless.

”Yeah, my injury is minor. I’ll stay here and watch Ms. Ulrich. You guys go on,”

another man, who was injured in the shoulder, also said.

Everyone fell silent, but just a few seconds later, a series of roars echoed from the distance.

”Hurry up and go!”

Alana Ulrich shouted.

She knew her wound would only attract more of them, and how could the others not know that as well?

Genevieve seemed to have made up her mind and started walking toward a nearby car, but halfway there, she turned back.

She raised her crossbow, aiming in the direction of the sounds.

”Let’s see what it is first. We’ll kill it, then we’ll talk.”

”Right. If it’s just regular zombies, we can even dig out their Crystal Cores.”

The others immediately agreed.

”What’s the use of Crystal Cores? A whole basket of them won’t even trade for a bottle of water! Just go!”

Alana Ulrich yelled.

Whatever was coming, there would only be more and more of them.

At that moment, the thing that appeared in the distance made everyone stumble back two steps involuntarily.

It was a giant zombie lizard. Its hind tail and underbelly, which dragged on the ground, were already reduced to a skeleton, but its body was so enormous that they had to look up at it.

”How... how can something like this exist?!”

someone cried out in panic.

The zombie lizard was followed by a pack of zombies.

”We can handle zombies, but this thing... I’m afraid...”

Malcolm Holden said. For ordinary people like them, killing zombies was something you could practice. They weren’t even afraid of Mutated Zombies.

But running into a zombie animal was a situation with almost no chance of survival.

SWOOSH! SWOOSH!

Genevieve fired several arrows, but they couldn’t penetrate the zombie lizard’s hide at all.

”You guys take care of the zombies. I’ll hold it off. I refuse to believe this thing is invincible...”

The zombie lizard had instead ignited Genevieve’s fighting spirit.

ROAR!

The zombie lizard leaped and landed directly in front of Genevieve.

Although she reacted quickly and dodged, she was powerless against it with just the crossbow in her hands.

BANG!

A bullet hit the zombie lizard. Alana Ulrich yelled, ”Come on! Come and eat me, you ugly thing!”

Even though her thigh was injured, she had somehow forced herself to stand up.

The zombie lizard was indeed attracted by her flesh and blood, and it immediately pounced!

’So... it’s still no use?’

Genevieve opened her mouth to scream but couldn’t make a sound. Alana Ulrich was creating a chance for her to escape.

Remembering everything they had been through together over the past few months, Genevieve grabbed an iron rod and charged as well!

At that exact moment, a Stone Spike suddenly erupted from the ground beneath the leaping zombie lizard.

SCHLICK!

Its massive body was impaled on the Stone Spike, which was exceptionally tough. No matter how the zombie lizard struggled, it remained firmly pinned.

Genevieve seized the opportunity, raised the iron rod, and forcefully stabbed it toward the zombie lizard’s head!

Seeing the motionless zombie lizard, Alana Ulrich breathed a sigh of relief. She could no longer stay on her feet and collapsed.

”A... Superpower User?”

Alana Ulrich and the others looked into the distance.

The remaining zombies in the area were all cut down by the group.

This came as a bit of a surprise to Nina Jacobs.

Because there wasn’t a single Superpower User among them.

They relied entirely on their own adaptability to fight and dodge, and not one of them backed down.

Especially the young woman with the crossbow, who had managed to pierce the zombie lizard’s head purely with her own strength.

”Thank you for your help just now.”

Genevieve had also spotted Nina Jacobs and walked over to thank her.

”You’re welcome. You were pretty impressive yourself.”

Because she had used her Earth Element Superpower during the crisis, she had quickly deactivated her ”Face Adjustment” skill. As a result, she was currently in her Nina Jacobs identity.

”It’s dangerous here. Are you alone?”

Genevieve suspected that Nina Jacobs might have gotten separated from her companions.
