After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

”Feel free to ask me anything.”

Reginald Sutton had also taken a quick bath, though he felt a pang of regret as he poured out the basin of black water.

’He even considered filtering and reusing it.’

”Are there any other places suitable for survival near Lornwood Base?”

After Nina Jacobs asked, the others were all stunned.

It seemed none of them had expected someone to ask such a question.

”There are, actually. Keldorn has always been a sparsely populated area, so it’s not hard to find a place with fewer zombies.”

Tobin said he was a local.

He took out a pen and paper from the table and began to draw on it. ”There are buildings in these three directions from the base, and the zombies nearby were cleared out by the old base commander and his team a few months ago...”

”But it’s not inside the base, after all. Zombies could show up at any time,”

Tobin said.

”I’m not familiar with Keldorn. If you’re heading back to the base, could I trouble you to lead the way?

I’ll pay you for your trouble,”

Nina Jacobs asked.

”That’s not difficult at all. You’ve already helped us so much, how could we let you pay us on top of that?”

Cordelia also wondered why Nina Jacobs was asking such a question.

But Nina Jacobs didn’t explain, and Cordelia didn’t dare to ask bluntly.

’She guessed it was probably because of Lexy. If Lexy was discovered inside the base, there were only two possible outcomes.

Either death or confiscation.’

”Alright then. We’ll set out tomorrow.

I’ll be responsible for your water and supplies for the journey,”

Nina Jacobs stated.

She didn’t know the state of Cordelia’s group’s supplies, but she knew they were short on water.

Although Rhonda Rowan and the other two were still injured, by tomorrow, the diluted Healing Potion should have them mostly recovered.

As long as they avoided strenuous activity on the road, they would be fine.

But before leaving, there was one more place she had to go.

「In the pitch-black basement.」

Zombies stood silently, one after another. The sounds emanating from the bottom of their rotting throats indicated they were still alive.

Yet their movements were as if restrained by something. Even when sounds echoed, they remained standing there, completely still.

There were over four hundred such zombies.

A small mouse even stood on the shoulder of one of the zombies.

A low roar came from the room at the far end, and the hundreds of zombies began to move in succession.

Their target was the same, and they moved in unison toward that room.

Just then, Wayne Warner kicked open a door.

The two of them walked into a room that reeked of corpses and rot.

To be precise, it must have been an office before.

A figure was sitting behind the desk at the front of the office.

The figure was leaning back in a chair, its back to them.

Nina Jacobs used her Gold Element Superpower to turn the chair around.

It wasn’t a normal chair, but a metal wheelchair.

Sitting in the wheelchair was a zombie. It only had an upper body, no legs.

ROAR!

The zombie roared at them.

”So you’re the one controlling the zombies outside. Are you trying to get them to save you now?”

At that moment, a raging fire was already burning outside the door.

It was the Fire Element Superpower trap she had set before coming in.

Wayne Warner was currently guarding the entrance. If any zombies that weren’t burned to death managed to break in, he would finish them off.

Nina Jacobs looked at the piles of white bones on the ground around them.

The legless zombie before her had to be the Spiritual Element zombie that could control others of its kind.

Although a Spiritual Element Superpower was special, in the early stages, it had no self-defense or offensive capabilities.

Nina Jacobs guessed that the traps in Veridia Town had also been made by it controlling other zombies.

Its purpose was to bring back humans who fell into the traps for it to feast on.

This was to ensure its own survival.

Because it had limited mobility and lacked the ability to fight humans itself.

The skeletons gnawed clean that filled the room were proof of that.

’As for whether that’s really the case...’

Nina Jacobs directly finished off the zombie with a Gold Spike.

The system’s trigger sound immediately followed:

[Detected: Host’s actions will save 871 humans in the coming days. ”Selfless Savior” title triggered. Reward: 871 Healing Potions.]

”It seems I was right.”

A simple disabled zombie wouldn’t have triggered a system title.

Nina Jacobs dug out its Crystal Core. It was indeed the Crystal Core of a Spiritual Element Superpower.

Meanwhile, Wayne Warner had finished off the remaining zombies outside the door.

Just as Nina Jacobs reached the door, ready to leave, she silently backed away from it.

In this large office, besides the skeletons, there were also many backpacks and even suitcases scattered about.

A small silver suitcase, in particular, caught her eye.

Nina Jacobs’s eyes lit up after she opened the suitcase.

The case was stuffed full of gold jewelry and Gold Bars.

Some of the other backpacks also contained a lot of gold and silver jewelry.

Nina Jacobs took it all without a second thought.

This Gold earned her an additional 3 storage slots.

”Looks like my luck’s pretty good today.”

As Nina Jacobs was heading back with Wayne Warner, she discovered Cordelia and Reginald Sutton by the side of the road.

The two of them were fully geared up, seemingly searching for something on the street.

Seeing Nina Jacobs and Wayne Warner looking like they were just strolling down the street, the pair was first taken aback, then they hurried over.

”Did you find any supplies? Reginald and I just found a car.”

Cordelia had thought Nina Jacobs and Wayne Warner went out to search for supplies in the town.

To avoid putting too much pressure on Nina Jacobs, they had also decided to go out and look for more supplies.

Fortunately, they didn’t encounter any more zombie traps and found some still-edible food in some cars by the roadside.

And a dark green heavy-duty RV.

”We’ve had our eyes on this RV for many days, and we finally managed to get it started today. Some of the things inside are still usable.”

Reginald Sutton gestured for the three of them to get in and have a look, as he planned to drive straight back.

”Not bad.”

Nina Jacobs walked a circle around the vehicle. This RV had likely been driven for some time during the apocalypse.

Although the paint was scratched, the body was still quite sturdy.

There were some outdoor survival items inside. Nina Jacobs opened a storage compartment under a seat and was surprised to find more than ten guns and ammunition.

Cordelia also stared at the storage compartment in surprise. ”I really didn’t expect to find these.”

”This vehicle was already here when we arrived,”

Reginald Sutton said while carefully driving.

The roads in Veridia Town were badly damaged and littered with obstacles, but the RV navigated around them with ease.

”Your driving skills are pretty good,”

Nina Jacobs praised.

’Didn’t I just find myself a driver?’

”Reginald has always been the one driving us. He used to be a race car driver, you know,”

Cordelia said.

”Not professionally, just for fun. It’s mainly that this vehicle’s chassis is stable.”

Reginald Sutton said with an embarrassed smile.

Nina Jacobs knew Cordelia was a Space Superpower User, so she had her put the weapons away first.

”How big is your space?” Nina Jacobs asked.

”It seems to have gotten a bit bigger recently. Maybe about the size of a large gym?”

Cordelia described.

”That’s not small. It’s enough.”

Nina Jacobs nodded.

Cordelia didn’t know what Nina Jacobs meant by ”it’s enough.” That evening, Wayne Warner brought over several large storage containers for Cordelia to put into her space.

”These are the supplies we’ll need on the road for the next while. I’ve left one container in the vehicle for easy access.

The rest I’m leaving with you.”

Nina Jacobs had already added all of them as system teammates.

For now, the favorability of all five was at an acceptable level.

Besides these large storage containers, Wayne Warner then hauled over a large, white plastic water tank that was taller than a person, from who knows where.
