While Everyone Panicked, I Upgraded My Raft

Chapter 79: Chapter 79: District 122 Players Make a Huge Profit

Meanwhile, the World Channel of District 122 was already in an uproar over the three-degree drop in temperature.

”Holy crap! Not only did the temperature fail to stabilize, but it actually got worse. How are we supposed to survive this?”

”Even though I was mentally prepared, my heart still turned ice-cold when it actually happened.”

”But with warming equipment, as long as the environment is sealed to maintain the raft’s temperature, it shouldn’t be a big problem.”

”Right. As long as there are no marine creature attacks, we should be able to survive and make it past midnight.”

”Bite your tongue! Don’t even bring up marine creatures. It’ll be terrible if you jinx us.”

”There probably won’t be any! Given the current temperature setting, if another marine creature shows up, well, everyone except the top players will be wiped out.”

Under the grim circumstances of the extreme cold disaster, even the lurkers couldn’t help but surface. Some were anxious, while others remained confident. A complex mix of emotions flooded the chat.

Right then, a message from Celia Lynch instantly grabbed everyone’s attention.

”Celia Lynch: The activation temperature for Abyssal Heat Bacteria is minus 76 degrees. If you shake it outdoors, it turns into a heat source that can raise the indoor temperature. I don’t know how long the Effect lasts yet.”

”Whoa, is that true?”

”If Ms. Lynch says so, it’s definitely been verified. I gathered quite a bit of it back then.”

”Who was it earlier saying the Abyssal Heat Bacteria was useless? Talk about an instant slap in the face.”

”I didn’t expect there to be activation conditions.”

”Ms. Lynch is so sharp!”

”It’s also because she trusted the mysterious top player’s previous actions!”

”How did that mysterious player know the Abyssal Heat Bacteria would be useful?”

”Probably just being prepared! Otherwise, why would they be a top player!”

”Top players are always one step ahead because they’re smart! Or they have their own special skills. Otherwise, how could they climb so fast from the exact same starting point?”

”Wait, shouldn’t the focus be on the Abyssal Heat Bacteria right now? Aren’t you guys in a hurry?”

”Ha! I’m already using it. Why would I wait?”

”The heating Effect is genuinely great! My raft’s temperature shot up instantly.”

”Now we just need to test how long one unit of Abyssal Heat Bacteria can last.”

”I have a feeling it won’t be short.”

”If it lasts a while, we really won’t have anything to worry about.”

”The main thing is that the raft’s temperature rises so quickly once you use it!”

”Yeah, it’s a pleasant surprise.”

”Now we truly don’t have to worry.”

The moment the players learned about the Abyssal Heat Bacteria, they immediately began testing it. The Effect of the Abyssal Heat Bacteria was gradually verified by the community, filling everyone with absolute delight. The entire World Channel was brimming with jubilation.

After all, everyone had gathered quite a lot of Abyssal Heat Bacteria during the third day of the extreme heat disaster. The fact that the Abyssal Heat Bacteria could serve as a stable heat source sent a clear message: they could use it freely!

No matter how much the temperature dropped during the extreme cold disaster, it was no longer a problem. What was supposed to be a sleepless night had suddenly turned wonderful.

Many players began packing up their things, ready to go to bed. Before closing their interface, they subconsciously glanced at the Sea Survival Shop. Seeing the quantity of iron ore still steadily increasing, they all fell silent.

They thought, ”Damn it! They’re already number one on the server, yet they’re still grinding this hard!!!”

Rowan Rhodes had no idea her diligence was ”breaking” so many hearts.

As she read the World Channel discussing the Effect of the Abyssal Heat Bacteria and thanking her for her foresight, the corners of her mouth twitched involuntarily. Sure enough, once you took the lead, people would always find ways to rationalize any inconsistencies. Still, the players had finally discovered the true use of the Abyssal Heat Bacteria.

Thinking about the massive stockpile of Abyssal Heat Bacteria in her possession, Rowan pondered what would be best to trade them for.

She thought, ”I’ll stick with Metal Ingots.”

After all, for the foreseeable future, the raft would be ruled by Metal Ingots. Everything would require them. Just like that, Rowan carefully mined iron ore while planning the items she would list the next day. It wasn’t until her status bars bottomed out and a wave of drowsiness hit her that she finally returned to her raft to rest.

She slept soundly through the night.

[Sea Survival Calendar: January 9, 8:19 AM. Weather: Frigid. Today’s Temperature: Minus 98 degrees. Extreme cold weather. Please stay safe.]

This was the latest Rowan had ever woken up. As she entered the shower room to wash up, she opened the World Channel.

[District 122: (96,481 / 100,000)]

Overnight, the death toll had only increased by a dozen or so. The Speed of casualties had significantly decreased. Clearly, the emergence of the Abyssal Heat Bacteria had solved the survival crisis for the vast majority of players in District 122.

”Wow! The Abyssal Heat Bacteria is still radiating heat after seven hours. The Effect is amazing.”

”This is the first time in three days that my raft has felt this warm.”

”Yeah! The Effect is much better than a Charcoal Stove. You have to stay close to a Charcoal Stove to get warm, but the Abyssal Heat Bacteria can heat up an entire area.”

”I even tested it—after activating it, you can put it in your backpack or Storage Box to pause its state. You can activate it first and then take it out whenever you need it.”

”That’s fantastic!”

”Haha, I hoarded a ton of it earlier.”

”If you have extra, you could probably trade it for other resources. I saw that many people have already listed it in the Sea Survival Shop.”

”It’s probably Zelda Parrish and a few other top players! They must have collected a lot back then.”

”They’re still buying it in the Trading Hall right now! If you want specific resources, you can try listing it. They’ll definitely make a profit by reselling it anyway.”

”Waking up to this really turns things around! We truly don’t have to worry about the third day of the extreme cold.”

”Judging by the quantity in the Sea Survival Shop, the other districts most likely didn’t catch Abyssal Heat Bacteria like we did.”

”If the top player hadn’t tipped us off, who would have bothered gathering Abyssal Heat Bacteria?”

”It cost me a lot of Equipment back then! I felt a bit regretful at the time, but now I just feel lucky.”

”Haha, I finally leveled up.”

”Me too. Thanks to a massive amount of resources, I finally reached Level 6.”

”One word: Awesome!”

The players of District 122 were overflowing with joy in their chats. This was especially true for those who had gone to bed early the night before. Waking up to such news drove them wild with happiness.

At this moment, however, they all checked their raft’s status and began listing the items they needed in the Trading Hall, waiting for exchanges.

Meanwhile, the players of District 122 who had started trading bright and early had already made a fortune through the Trading Hall. Their trading partners were none other than Zelda Parrish and her group. If regular players could see the value of the Abyssal Heat Bacteria, it was even more obvious to these veteran players. Thus, the moment they woke up and confirmed the price of the Abyssal Heat Bacteria, they began buying it up in the Trading Hall.

By now, the price was climbing higher and higher. The buying price was steep, but so was the selling price. The Abyssal Heat Bacteria they submitted to the Sea Survival Shop sold out in seconds, regardless of the price tag. With a simple flip, they could multiply their resources, lining their pockets and growing wealthier by the minute.

Although they had few resources on hand, they had the Sea Survival Shop to rely on! They were also actively trading with the Sea Survival Shop. Even though the shop would take a large cut of their profits, they accepted it gladly.

And while the players of District 122 seized this opportunity to make a killing, players from other districts stared at the newly emerged Abyssal Heat Bacteria in utter bewilderment.
