While Everyone Panicked, I Upgraded My Raft

Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Landing on Glimmerstone Isle

Rowan Rhodes hurriedly turned the Steering Wheel, steering the raft in the direction of Glimmerstone Isle. She had already verified that the sea they were in was an independent space. Now that this sea region was covered in ice and snow, she wanted to see what the situation on Glimmerstone Isle would be like.

After all, back on Pyralia, the temperature hadn’t dropped. However, Pyralia was inherently a tropical island, and the temperature had been extremely high when she first landed there. And what about Glimmerstone Isle? In her previous life, she had also arrived there after the extreme cold disaster, and it had been in a normal state. Now that she was arriving early, would Glimmerstone Isle be surrounded by blocks of ice or seawater?

Rowan Rhodes felt that the latter was more likely. After all, the two belonged to different spaces. Furthermore, there were pufferfish near Glimmerstone Isle! The Slime obtained from killing pufferfish was the raw material for making gunpowder. To mass-produce burning bottles, she needed Slime. Therefore, Glimmerstone Isle probably wouldn’t be frozen over. However, this was merely her own speculation. As for the actual situation, she would have to see Glimmerstone Isle with her own eyes.

As the raft continued its advance toward Glimmerstone Isle, Rowan Rhodes returned to the cabin to wait. Now that she had the Steering Wheel, she only needed to ensure the direction was correct. There was no need for her to constantly adjust the sails. Time ticked by, minute by minute, and the sky grew dark without her realizing it. The temperature plummeted to minus sixty-two degrees. The snowflakes outside grew denser, and as they fell onto the raft, they gradually piled up into drifts.

Seeing the system panel’s notification that the fruit trees on the third floor were damaged, Rowan Rhodes immediately rushed up. Although there was a Charcoal Stove, the environment was not sealed. The ceaseless snowfall reduced the effective heating range of the Charcoal Stove. By the time she reached the third floor, the snow was already knee-deep. The shed she had originally built for the hens and goats was somewhat blocked. However, because there were enough honeycomb coal briquettes in the Charcoal Stove, and the animals huddled together with their thick coats of fur and feathers, they weren’t afraid of the cold at all.

Looking at the situation on the third floor, Rowan Rhodes came to her senses. In her previous life, her raft hadn’t been this large. She had only built a small Wooden House to sleep in. Even when it snowed, the snow couldn’t accumulate to this extent. She hadn’t expected that with a larger area, there would be so many more things to worry about.

Rowan Rhodes immediately began modifying the third floor. The snow accumulated because the third floor was a large open space. If she built a triangular roof over it now, the forces of Nature would ensure that any accumulating snow slid off the sides. Building the canopy only cost a little bit of wood. As for the affected fruit trees, Rowan Rhodes simply chopped them down. She harvested Wooden Boards, fruits, and seeds, so it wasn’t a loss. She would continue planting them after the extreme cold weather passed.

Following that, Rowan Rhodes grabbed a tool and began shoveling the snow. Once the shoveling was done, the third floor instantly became clean and clear.

After this ordeal, Rowan Rhodes realized that the raft’s design was also a major priority. No wonder raft construction blueprints became so popular later on, eventually branching out into various architectural styles. Perhaps she could find some designers to custom-build things for her in the future. It would definitely be better than blindly building things on her own. Along the way, Rowan Rhodes harvested some eggs, wool, and goat milk from the hens and goats before returning to the first floor.

When Rowan Rhodes sat down, she subconsciously glanced at the World Channel. Sure enough, people were discussing this very issue.

”This makes no scientific sense! Snow actually accumulates on the raft. If we don’t shovel it, it damages our crops and the raft.”

”Mine did too! It warned me that if I didn’t shovel the snow, my Wooden House was at risk of collapsing. It forced me to go out into the blizzard to shovel. Because it was so cold, my Life Value dropped quite a bit.”

”Before shoveling, you can modify your raft first. Just build a canopy over it.”

”That’s a great idea.”

”Building a canopy requires Wooden Boards, right? I’ve been saving all the Wooden Boards I have on hand, afraid that more marine creatures will attack later and I won’t have enough time to repair the raft.”

”It’s been so long without any marine creatures. There basically won’t be any today. Even if there are, it’ll be tomorrow.”

”I wonder if tomorrow’s temperature will stay the same.”

”I actually hope it doesn’t. If the weather breaks, there might not be any marine creatures. The difficulty of these disasters has limits, so the game should leave players a way to survive.”

”We’ll find out later.”

”...”

The World Channel was filled with players’ casual chatter. It was obvious that the survival conditions of the players in District 122 were relatively decent. Under these circumstances, it was only human Nature for them to be in the mood to chat on the World Channel. Besides killing time, it made life on the raft less agonizing. In fact, the World Channel was indeed the only source of comfort for many players in the Sea Survival Game. Through the World Channel, knowing that many others were still alive made them feel less lonely and afraid in this unfamiliar environment. Previously, it had been a place to vent emotions. Now, it was slowly becoming a platform for everyone to communicate. It felt more like exchanging everyday pleasantries.

After realizing this, Rowan Rhodes couldn’t help but think of the World Channel from her previous life. One had been filled with despair and malice, while the other was full of hope and gentleness. The difference between the two was like night and day. The wings of the butterfly she embodied had truly flapped with incredible force! This completely different trajectory gave her a bit more anticipation for the future. The differences proved that she had already embarked on a path completely divergent from her previous life. The more differences, the better.

Realizing she might arrive at Glimmerstone Isle late at night again, Rowan Rhodes decided to get some sleep first. With that thought, she entered her room to rest. Of course, before resting, she made sure to instruct the Seagull Family to stop the raft if they spotted the island.

”SQUAWK.” Seabird One and the other Seagulls immediately agreed.

After Rowan Rhodes returned to her room, the Seagull Family sprang into action. Rowan Rhodes had initially thought she would have a hard time falling asleep, but to her surprise, she drifted off without realizing it shortly after her head hit the pillow.

By the time Rowan Rhodes woke up again, it was already late at night, and the raft had stopped moving. As soon as she stepped out, she heard the sound of ocean waves crashing against the raft.

”SQUAWK!” The Seagull Family flew over to her, calling out.

Using her natural skills, Rowan Rhodes understood their meaning clearly. They had only just discovered the island and had found a spot to anchor according to her orders. They originally wanted to help her scout the outside situation, but they hadn’t gone out because the temperature was too low.

Listening to Seabird One’s report, Rowan Rhodes nodded. One thing could be confirmed. Although the island outside hadn’t been affected by the extreme cold weather or become snow-capped, because she was landing on it during a natural disaster, the temperature perceived by her and her pets remained the same.

Having confirmed this, Rowan Rhodes looked at the Seagull Family and asked, ”Do you want to go out and look around?”

”SQUAWK?” Seabird One looked at her in confusion.

Hearing this, Rowan Rhodes understood that it was wondering if they were allowed to. She immediately took out the Insect Skin Suit, used a pair of scissors to roughly tailor it, and then slipped the pieces onto Seabird One and the rest of the flock one by one. After putting it on, Seabird One looked at her curiously, as if wondering if this would be enough.

”Try it?” Rowan Rhodes suggested.

Saying that, she directly opened the raft’s door, and a blast of frigid air instantly surged in. Of course, Rowan Rhodes, who was wearing the White Bear Anti-Cold Suit, didn’t feel a thing, and neither did the Seagulls in their new thermal clothing. Confirming that they weren’t cold, the Seagull Family swiftly flew out and disappeared in the blink of an eye. Clearly, they had gone to scout the island.

Seeing this, Rowan Rhodes headed to the second floor and began organizing the items in her backpack. Once she finished, she stepped foot onto Glimmerstone Isle. This was the third island, and she had plenty of time to explore it!
