The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 1264: Chapter 472: Palace Intrigue vs. Rebellion (Part 9)_2

”That vile pair from Lady Xie and her son. Outwardly low-key, but continuously scheming in secret. I know they have never given up the fight for power against my son and me!”

As she spoke, He Tiantian’s eyes were filled with determination, as if she had made up her mind: ”...Qing Nu must grow up now; he must face everything on his own!”

Listening to He Tiantian’s words, Nanny Song felt both understanding and heartache.

As for the fleeting doubt in her heart, Nanny Song dismissed it entirely.

Doubt about what?

How could she doubt the Empress Dowager’s love for the Emperor just because she seemed a bit cold?

The Empress Dowager has always loved His Majesty; no matter what she says or does, it is for His Majesty’s sake!

”Your Grace, I am just afraid, afraid that you are overworking yourself.”

Nanny Song had a worry she dared not voice to her mistress, fearing the little Emperor would not appreciate the Empress Dowager’s efforts.

The estrangement between mother and son might only grow wider!

”Raising a child for a hundred years, worries last for ninety-nine of them!”

He Tiantian, however, wore a resigned smile, murmuring softly, ”Perhaps I owed him something in a past life, and this life is my punishment to be his mother!”

Nanny Song’s eyes reddened. Oh, how pitiable her mistress’s fate was.

Her father, father passed away early;

Her husband, her husband was unreliable;

And now, even her only son causes such heartache and worry.

”Enough, let’s not talk about it. Ah Wu, I’ve made up my mind!”

Feigning a sniffle into her handkerchief, He Tiantian said slowly, ”From now on, I will let go and allow Qing Nu to manage on his own!”

”Marriage, taking charge, these are thresholds he must cross himself!”

”Only by relying on his own ability to cross them can he truly ’rule on his own.’”

The country and the people cannot be sustained just because it’s handed to you.

If there is not enough ability, even if the Empress Dowager and the Three Great Ministers let go, Emperor Yongcheng’s orders still won’t make it out of the Political Affairs Hall, let alone be implemented nationwide.

As the Empress Dowager’s confidante, Nanny Song stayed by her side day in and day out.

Through the years, she watched her grow from an orphan girl in chaos, to negotiating with powerful figures, helping her husband seize Jiangshan, and step by step ascend to the most honored throne.

Nanny Song was no ordinary servant.

She understood the underlying meaning of He Tiantian’s words, and the Empress Dowager’s painstaking intentions.

Nanny Song felt even more heartfelt sympathy.

”Her Grace’s loving heart is truly moving to the heavens!”

Nanny Song sighed.

Knowing her mistress’s plan, she would no longer try to persuade otherwise.

In this way, He Tiantian settled Nanny Song, laying the foundation for future ”transformation.”

Because He Tiantian knew that with Emperor Yongcheng’s temperament, as soon as she let go, he would recklessly proceed on a destructive path.

In the end, when Emperor Yongcheng caused a major disaster or did something even Nanny Song couldn’t forgive,

He Tiantian could perform a ”righteous familial sacrifice,” and no one would doubt that she wasn’t the original person; they would only think she was utterly heartbroken and reached her limit!

...

Over the next three to four months, the Capital City was exceptionally bustling.

Weddings were held in clusters, and the nobility would attend one feast today and another banquet in a few days.

After attending so many banquets, some people gradually noticed—

Hmm?

Something seems off; these noble ladies getting married are mostly young women similar in age to the little Emperor.

Judging by their upbringing and appearance, they were fully qualified to compete for the position of Empress.

Especially Nineteenth Lady Wang, who stood out among them.

Six months ago, there were rumors from the palace that the current Empress Dowager was very fond of Nineteenth Lady Wang.

She had summoned her into the palace several times to speak, bestowing many rewards each time.

Originally, everyone thought that Empress Dowager He had chosen a Wang Family daughter to propose marriage for the Emperor.

After waiting for several months without news of a wedding from the palace, the Wang Family instead married off the Nineteenth Lady to the Heir of Prince Nanping.

Although the Heir of Prince Nanping’s conditions were not bad, compared to becoming Empress, it was still far less desirable.

The rumors grew increasingly rampant.

Gossip circulated that the Empress Dowager wanted to curry favor with a noble daughter, but the Wang Family, a thousand-year-old lineage, wouldn’t easily yield to a poor family bumpkin.

The Royal Family might indeed be prestigious, but the Lady Zhao, tut-tut, truly is not presentable.

Of course, there were also rumors that the Empress Dowager favored the Wang Family daughter, and the Wang Family was willing to have their daughter enter the palace.

But the Emperor was uninterested; he loved someone else, arguing with the Empress Dowager, who, loving her son, had to yield.

No matter which rumor circulated, for He Tiantian and Wang Shijiu, who were involved, it was no good.
