Forced Pampering: Haughty Husband, Please Restrain Yourself

Chapter 1154: Chapter 1168: Refusing to Save the Dying

At first, he naively thought that Huang Xiaoyu hadn’t seen them, which was why she didn’t dive in. But when An Ran said that Huang Xiaoyu went to find help and the rescue team still hadn’t come, Huang Tao realized that his aunt must have seen them, but she never intended to save him.

How could it be that his aunt, who was clearly with this lady, didn’t hear the cries for help when the lady did? The lady said that his aunt couldn’t swim, but it’s probably just an excuse for not wanting to jump into the water to save people.

Also, they fell into the water close to the Guard Team compound. If his aunt had acted quickly, there was a sentinel on duty at the entrance, and the members of the Guard Team are all good swimmers. How could there be such a long delay with no one coming to save them?

”It’s not like that, Taotao,” Huang Xiaoyu, confronted by Huang Tao’s piercing gaze, felt a chill run down her spine, and subconsciously tried to explain.

”How could your aunt ignore you; she just didn’t realize it was you in the river.”

In her frantic attempt to justify herself, Huang Xiaoyu accidentally blurted out her true thoughts. Only after she said it did she realize her mistake, her face turning deathly pale.

”So it’s ok not to save someone just because it’s not me? Auntie’s swimming is so good, yet she told the lady she couldn’t swim. When the lady asked you to get help from the Guard Team, you acted like nothing happened? Auntie, you really disgust me. I’d rather not have an aunt like you.”

With those words, Huang Tao stubbornly turned his head away.

Qu Jing listened to Huang Tao’s resolute words but couldn’t bring herself to say anything to chastise him. Huang Tao’s statement about becoming as cold and lifeless as Li Lele deeply shocked her.

Lele was gone, such a lively and adorable child vanishing in an instant. If it weren’t for An Ran, her own Taotao would be the same. Just thinking of that possibility made her heart ache as if being cut by a knife.

Yet under such circumstances, Huang Xiaoyu could still return home and chat with her leisurely. No wonder she, who never bought groceries, came back with some today, and no wonder she bought loofah even though she doesn’t eat it. Those vegetables must be An Ran’s, right?

”Taotao, listen to your aunt. She really didn’t recognize you, otherwise...”

”Enough, Xiaoyu, you should leave. Miss An needs rest, and Taotao needs rest too. Don’t disturb them anymore,” Qu Jing interrupted Huang Xiaoyu’s explanation and pushed her out of the hospital room. In the face of reality, her words were already powerless and futile.

Qu Jing glanced at An Ran beside her, then asked Liu Hu about the situation. Hearing that she was just physically exhausted and had some water in her lungs, she was slightly relieved, but her gratitude only intensified.

Huang Xiaoyu sat on the cold chair outside the ward, with Huang Tao’s words repeating over and over in her mind — he would rather not have an aunt like her.

She didn’t dare go home, knowing her brother’s temper. Currently, her brother was busy elsewhere and hadn’t come to the hospital. If he learned she failed to save someone, would he also disown her as his sister?

Should she call her parents and explain herself first?

As she thought about it, footsteps echoed from the end of the corridor, and she saw Mu Xingfeng approaching from afar.

Knowing that the man had been away for training during this period and returned today, seeing him in a simple combat uniform that still accentuated his dignified presence, Huang Xiaoyu couldn’t help but blush.

Then, catching sight of the two people behind him from the corner of her eye, she quickly stood up, turned, and walked briskly in the other direction. She couldn’t let Captain Li and his wife see her. Despite having no direct connection to Li Lele’s death, the thought of Huang Tao’s words made her fearful and guilty.
