Chapter 1149: Chapter 34: Unstable Factors

”However, before dealing with the Ant King, there are three unstable factors to consider.”

Old Smoke in the nice guy mode is noticeably more reliable than when he’s in the rebel mode. He is the one who gathered Chen and Mizaki together, so his voice carries more weight within the small group. Whether others listen to his arrangements depends on the reasonableness of his opinions.

”Apart from the four of us, there are also several medium and small-sized adventure groups and numerous loners here. They might go after those three unstable factors, but I don’t intend to rely on them.”

Old Smoke glanced around at the three present.

”I don’t need to say it; you all should have guessed who those three unstable factors are. Yes, it’s the Ant King’s three personal guards: Yubi, Nefertiti, and Shaiapouf.”

Old Smoke paused for a moment here.

”Yubi is relatively the easiest to deal with among them. That guy only has brute strength, his intelligence is relatively simple. Next is Pouf; his ability is troublesome, but his body isn’t very strong. The hardest one to deal with is Cat Woman Nefertiti. She has high intelligence, a strong body, and her abilities are very troublesome.”

As Old Smoke was speaking, it seemed he was about to enter the rebel leader mode once again.

”Yubi is dead.”

Su Xiao suddenly interrupted Old Smoke. Old Smoke’s train of thought was abruptly shattered, and after a brief expression of distortion, he returned to normal.

”Yubi is dead?”

”Can you specify how he died?”

Mizaki, Old Smoke, and Chen all turned their gaze toward Su Xiao.

Su Xiao hesitated for a moment, then decided to reveal the real cause of Yubi’s death.

”I sniped him.”

”Sniped?”

Mizaki’s expression was one of disbelief.

”You can verify this on the contact platform. Close combat used to be my fighting style. I’m now a sniper + summoning profession. Previously calling myself a melee fighter was just a habit.”

Su Xiao took out the Duke of Extinction. Coupled with Bubu Wang and A Mu standing behind him, his explanation seemed very credible.

”This... doesn’t seem questionable.”

Upon seeing the Duke of Extinction, Mizaki immediately felt a tingling sensation, combined with A Mu’s strong build and the sporadic presence of Bubu Wang, she judged that A Mu and Bubu Wang were not simple.

”It’s surprising that the Night of Beheading turned into a sniper + summoner.”

Although Mizaki said this, she was more puzzled; she wondered what Su Xiao’s main fighting style truly was.

The reason Su Xiao acted this way was to confuse these three people. Their conjectures weren’t important; what mattered was that he demonstrated a strong sniping capability. Later, during the battle with the Ant King, he would be able to snipe from long range.

The benefits of doing this are threefold: first, there is no need to worry about these three betraying him, or launching a surprise attack from behind; second, it allows him to observe the combat techniques of the three; and third, it saves stamina because close combat with the Ant King at the critical moment is necessary. The closer the distance, the greater the advantage.

”This...”

Old Smoke looked hesitant. Originally, he also wanted to disguise himself as a long-range profession because Chen within the team was certainly long-range, there’s no doubt about the identity as a mage.

But Su Xiao’s move to take out the Duke of Extinction thwarted Old Smoke’s plans. He glanced at the +7 light gold sniper pistol in his storage space and decided not to take it out and embarrass himself because the Duke of Extinction appeared to be a +10 or higher gold heavy sniper rifle.

”Since Yubi is dead, the subsequent matters become simpler. Before dealing with the Ant King, we must first address the other two personal guards, namely the Cat woman and the Fly Man.”

The Fly Man mentioned by Old Smoke is actually one of the three guards, Pouf, though his traits are more like a butterfly.

”I’ll handle the Cat Woman.”

Su Xiao wasn’t interested in dealing with Pouf; that guy could split, making it extremely difficult to eliminate him entirely.

”Chen, you previously had some ties with Bai Ye. How about the two of you handle the Cat Woman together?”

Old Smoke knew he couldn’t command others, so he tentatively suggested this.

Chen glanced at Su Xiao, then shook his head.

”This complicates matters. Although Bai Ye’s reputation isn’t great, in this situation, he likely won’t stab us in the back. Just from initial contact, Bai Ye and those lunatics in the Mingmen Adventure Group are different.”

When Old Smoke suddenly mentioned Mingmen, it suggested that their reputation was substantial, as the group consisted of a bunch of lunatics.

”He wants to face the Cat Woman alone.”

Indeed, Chen had grown significantly, managing to guess why Su Xiao volunteered to take on the Cat Woman.

”This... Brother Bai Ye, is it alright?”

”No problem, either I die, or she does.”

”In that case, why don’t we do this: Mizaki, Chen, the three of us will go against Pouf. Pouf has both high intelligence and strong survival abilities, so a three-person attack is more assured.”

Old Smoke didn’t object to Su Xiao taking on the Cat Woman alone. The reason is simple: Old Smoke wasn’t worried about Su Xiao’s life, or rather, he didn’t care. Su Xiao’s willingness to face the Cat Woman alone suggested that he had some confidence. No one would willingly face their death.

”Have the four of you finished your discussion?”

Netero suddenly spoke up; he had remained silent all along.

”No issues, Chairman. If everything goes smoothly, we could regroup in about an hour to deal with the Ant King. Of course, if the Ant King appears while we’re dealing with the three guards, we would need to rely on you to stall him.”

By this point, there’s no need for concealment. As long as nothing too sensitive is said, the Chairman won’t object.

The Hunter Association members have already breached the courtyard next to the Royal Palace. It’s not a matter of having the arrow set on the bow; they’ve already released it. Even if Netero suspected Su Xiao and the others, he wouldn’t expose it now—at least not before the Ant King is killed, no matter how suspicious their actions seemed.

”OK, then let’s begin.”

Old Smoke clasped his hands, closing his eyes. A ripple spread from him as the center.

”Pouf is on the first floor of the Royal Palace. He needs to be drawn out to be dealt with. As for the Cat Woman, she’s neither inside the palace nor in the courtyard; she’s still searching.”

About ten seconds later, Old Smoke’s eyes opened.

”The Cat Woman is about four kilometers east of the Royal Palace, seemingly chasing several people. It appears those people took something important, forcing the Cat Woman to pursue them.”

Old Smoke looked at Su Xiao, indicating a change in the situation with the Cat Woman being outside the palace.

”Maintaining some distance is more suitable for me. I haven’t invested resources in close combat for a long time.”

Su Xiao hastened eastward at a swift pace, matching the speed of an early third-tier melee Contractor, committed to playing his part fully.

As for handling the Cat Woman, Su Xiao naturally planned to engage her in close combat; the bullets from the Duke of Extinction were dwindling, reserved for the Ant King.

Old Smoke’s perception range was vast, conservatively estimated at four kilometers. However, Su Xiao doubted Old Smoke would engage in extensive perception while dealing with Pouf, as Pouf wasn’t easy prey.

”A dangerous character—do you believe he’s a sniper + summoning profession?”

Old Smoke remarked as he watched Su Xiao’s retreating figure.

”What choice do we have? If you can produce a +13 gold heavy sniper rifle and perform long-range sniping on the Ant King, we wouldn’t say no. The undeniable truth is we indeed require that gun to severely wound the Ant King, so we just have to accept it.”

Mizaki shrugged, implying her hands were tied in this matter.

Throughout, Chen remained silent. He vividly remembered when he first encountered Su Xiao in the giant world that Su Xiao claimed to be a spearman using a green quality pistol.

”A person with a nasty personality.”

Chen muttered, then began moving towards the Royal Palace.
