Chapter 1138: Chapter 23: Country of East Guotuo

As the saying goes, a smiling face invites no blows, especially with such respectful attitude.

”That old fox Maha.”

Su Xiao naturally understood what was going on. Hearing Su Xiao call Maha an old fox, Zeno and Silva acted as if they hadn’t heard.

Zeno led Su Xiao into the ancient castle of the Zoldyck Family and went straight underground. After activating dozens of extremely hidden mechanisms, Zeno took out a charcoal box from a high-strength alloy safe.

This charcoal box was about the size of a briefcase, fully enclosed, and its solid exterior gave a sense of its sturdiness.

Zeno placed his hand on the charcoal box, and telekinesis energy surged forth.

With a clicking sound, several protrusions emerged from the sides of the charcoal box, and a crack appeared in the middle. Zeno let out a long breath and handed the charcoal box to Su Xiao.

Su Xiao received the charcoal box; it was extremely heavy, not large in volume, yet it weighed at least 500 pounds.

Opening the charcoal box, inside were seven slots, five of which held Soul Crystals (Large), while the other two held a very thin notebook and a card.

[You have obtained Soul Crystal (Large) x5.]

[You have obtained Close Combat Specialization Lv.25 (scroll).]

[You have obtained Two-Star Hunter License.]

...

These three items were the gifts Maha left behind.

”Even his affairs are all set.”

Su Xiao put away the Soul Crystals and the specialization scroll; this was the other choice besides killing Killua. This reward was no less than killing Killua. Killua might be the Child of Fate, but he was not complete.

”...”

Zeno remained silent. During Maha’s lifetime, Su Xiao was a collaborator. Now that Maha was gone, if Su Xiao had any malice, the Zoldyck Family would practically be ruined; they couldn’t stop this Killing God.

From the beginning, the Zoldyck Family knew that Su Xiao was not merely a mercenary or thug, but a ’Plague God’ who could help them.

This ’Plague God’ could solve the family’s biggest problem or annihilate their family. The ’Plague God’ came uninvited, and it was best to treat him with courtesy if they wanted him gone.

Su Xiao tossed the Hunter License in his hand; having this made operations in the Hunter World much more convenient.

The Hunter License was a very special certificate; obtaining it required passing the Hunter Association’s exam. To advance to the second star, significant achievements must be made.

With a Hunter License, one could access 90% of countries that were off-limits to ordinary civilians. More than 95% of public facilities worldwide could be used for free, and one could enter some expressly forbidden ruins and dangerous areas.

The Hunter License was not identity-bound; anyone possessing it could use it, although such usage was illegal. This was one of the Hunter Association’s tests for its hunters; if you couldn’t even retain your license, you weren’t qualified to remain a hunter.

Su Xiao tossed the Hunter License and turned to walk out of the ancient castle; his objective was achieved, and it was time to leave Kukuru Mountain.

Upon learning that Su Xiao was leaving, Zeno and Silva didn’t bid him farewell but escorted him to the Trial Gate.

”Mister Bai Ye, remember to visit the Zoldyck Family sometime.”

Zeno was being polite; compared to the safety of the younger family members, he certainly hoped Su Xiao wouldn’t visit often. Su Xiao had a good relationship with Maha, but that didn’t mean he had a good relationship with the Zoldyck Family. If they angered this Plague God, it would be troublesome.

”Oh, I’ll visit when I have time.”

Su Xiao’s answer made Zeno’s face stiffen.

This was the way evildoers collaborated. Su Xiao wasn’t exactly a good person, and neither was Maha. As for the Zoldyck Family, an assassin family, should they really expect heart-to-heart cooperation? Don’t be ridiculous.

Compared to previous partnerships that completely fell apart at the last moment, this partnership was harmonious.

Driving a black car gifted by the Zoldyck Family, Su Xiao headed directly to the nearest airship station.

Compared to the situation in Kukuru Mountain, the location for the main task in East Guotuo was bustling.

The country of East Guotuo was a small nation located somewhat lower on the Hunter World’s map. It was an autonomous nation, meaning the V5 Organization couldn’t interfere with its domestic affairs.

Did East Guotuo have secret weapons or something special that made V5 wary?

No, it’s because East Guotuo was too poor. So poor that V5 couldn’t care less. In V5 Organization’s view, such a poor country merely served to lower every country’s ’GDP’. Besides, East Guotuo was located at the map’s edge, neither strategically important nor resource-rich.

The V5 Organization’s Finance Department budgeted that bringing East Guotuo into the United Nations’ sphere of influence wouldn’t yield any profits; instead, they’d have to spend money annually on relief, which was a losing proposition.

Therefore, V5 Organization discarded East Guotuo, granting it autonomy, meaning it shouldn’t ask them for money as it was an autonomous nation.

This delighted the royal family of East Guotuo, who didn’t care if the civilians suffered as long as they could enjoy themselves.

Imagine what kind of scene there would be with a pleasure-seeking royal family ruling an autonomous nation. In East Guotuo, all modern items were banned, even for farming; livestock or human power had to be used.

The ban on modern items worsened the living conditions of East Guotuo’s civilians, who lived a traditional lifestyle of male farming and female weaving. Strangely, their happiness index wasn’t low because their wishes were simple: food to fill their bellies and clothes to cover their bodies.

The hereditary royal family indulged in drinking and merrymaking daily; as for the ban on modern items, they were exempt from this rule.

After a 12-hour airship ride, Su Xiao arrived in a small country near East Guotuo. The reason for not landing directly there was simple—there was no airship station, and airships were forbidden from flying overhead.

Su Xiao stepped off the airship, having slept through the journey; the previous days on Kukuru Mountain had indeed worn him out.

Entering East Guotuo wasn’t difficult for Su Xiao. With the Two-Star Hunter License in hand, entering and exiting was easy. Su Xiao suspected this license wasn’t obtained from the Hunter Association’s exam but rather from killing a hunter.

There were no transportation tools within East Guotuo, so Su Xiao could only proceed on foot. On the way, he opened the Derived World Contact Platform, which was bustling with activity.

Old Gun (Qingyou Adventure Group): ”Recruiting third-tier melee contractors, main tank prioritized.”

White Giant (Xiong Feng Guild): ”Urgently recruiting third-tier main tank, support class, Mage Lord; main tank and Mage Lord prioritized, generous benefits.”

Blood Agate (Loner): ”The Qingyou Adventure Group scumbags are still recruiting cannon fodder? I’m not dead; don’t expect to hunt Mosaic ants in peace again.”

...

Medium- and small-sized adventure groups in the Hunter World were becoming active because they discovered that few strong contractors were present. The truly dangerous contractors numbered only a few, those targeting the Ant King or three guards, and more importantly, these strong contractors weren’t in the East Guotuo Nation Area; they were waiting for the Ant King’s birth, collecting benefits elsewhere.

As for Mosaic ants at the legion commander level, few attempted to hunt them, so these medium- and small-sized adventure groups focused on them instead.

However, these medium- and small-sized adventurers were unaware that dangerous lone rangers were arriving in East Guotuo, putting an end to their happy times.

”Unexpectedly lively.”

Su Xiao closed the Derived World Contact Platform, as he had arrived at the border area of East Guotuo.
