Chapter 1143: Chapter 28: Assassination

The Duke of Extinction’s bullets have 7 rounds left, and Su Xiao observes the Contractors a kilometer away through the scope. These people clearly have no intention of rushing in.

”They actually aren’t coming to swarm the sniper; third-tier Contractors are obviously more cautious.”

Su Xiao ejects the bullet casing from the chamber, with the scorching hot casing dropping accompanied by a wisp of smoke.

Ding ling～

As the casing lands, a short knife suddenly appears at the back of Su Xiao’s head.

The gleaming tip of the knife aims directly at the back of Su Xiao’s head, appearing too abruptly and without any warning.

Ka-ba! The knife tip stops in front of Su Xiao’s head, a 500-strength Counter Shield is blocking behind Su Xiao. The incoming short knife surprisingly pierces the Counter Shield.

The extent to which this knife was prepared was unknown; it wasn’t only poisoned but also bore five skill effects: Backstab, Shadow Blade, Vital Piercing, Fatal Stab, Hand of Death.

This knife penetrating the 500-strength Counter Shield isn’t exaggerated, because all of the attacker’s strength is unleashed in this one stab aimed to instantaneously kill Su Xiao, based on the assumption that Su Xiao is a sniper.

Ka-ba!

A large crack appears on the Energy Shield. Su Xiao turns his head to look at the short knife that brushed past his cheek, it is coated with green venom. Five minutes ago, his intuition ability vaguely sensed someone approaching, though the sense was faint and came and went.

The attacker failed to kill Su Xiao with one stab, creating an awkward situation.

Zi～ ℴ

The metal wire contracts; Su Xiao has already set up the Boundary Line behind him. The intuition ability cannot fully capture the opponent’s traces, indicating the enemy’s stealth ability is highly developed, and they are 90% likely an assassin.

The Boundary Line winds around a solid entity; as Su Xiao pulls the Boundary Line, the bound ’entity’ is revealed—a slender figure draped in a black cloak and hood.

The Boundary Line cuts into the opponent’s body, without spilling blood; the image starts to distort and soon vanishes into the air.

According to Su Xiao’s experience, this is a Substitute Ability; the real threat hasn’t gone far but its precise location is temporarily unknown.

Su Xiao places his hand on the Duke of Extinction, who gets stored in the Storage Space.

Su Xiao neither draws the Dragon Slash nor exhibits any aura; instead, he retrieves a Demon Hunting Gun from the Storage Space, preferring close combat because this is the most instinctive reaction when a sniper is cornered, at least for most snipers.

Su Xiao’s expression appears ’unpleasant,’ as A Mu roars and charges toward him ’recklessly.’ Su Xiao runs toward A Mu, striving to ’reunite’ quickly.

About ten meters away from Su Xiao, the figure clad in a black robe is within an Anomalous Space. Her stealth ability is not invisibility but entering an Anomalous Space, with each entry causing a delay of about three seconds and greatly reducing her speed. Therefore, this ability can only be used as a high-level invisibility skill, unsuitable for close combat.

Under the black hood is a somewhat pale face with black eye makeup. This female assassin’s looks could be considered above average, yet she possesses a unique aura, having no perfume scent, only a faint smell of blood.

”Do you think I’m a fool? That cow’s acting is terrible.”

Cold sweat drips from the female assassin’s white chin; when her short knife stabbed at Su Xiao earlier, she felt an extremely terrifying aura, making it seem unlike she was assassinating a sniper who wasn’t skilled in close combat.

Outside, A Mu continues to dash toward Su Xiao, but Su Xiao’s pace stops.

”A Mu, your acting is terrible.”

Upon hearing this, A Mu slows its steps, eventually stopping ten meters away and scratching its head.

”I’m hungry.”

”Hold it.”

Su Xiao’s gaze scans the surroundings, assessing what type of stealth ability the attacker used. If it is light refraction or Shadow Series, it’s easier to handle; if it’s perception shielding or forcibly masking existence, it’s tough, as Bu Bu Wang is of this latter type, able to blend into the surroundings and completely mask its presence.

Of course, it’s also possible the enemy has Space-type Stealth Ability, which is hard to tackle—they won’t fully enter Anomalous Space but maneuver in the gap between two spaces, unlike Obito’s Sharingan ability or Su Xiao’s Penetration Space ability.

”Still didn’t leave, or rather, dared not move.”

Su Xiao’s gaze becomes sharp while he continues scanning the area, his intuition still hints at a vague sense of danger, implying the opponent hasn’t left.

The sheathed Dragon Slash appears in Su Xiao’s hand.

Clang.

The long knife unsheathes with a crisp ringing sound.

Boom!

A blood-red aura erupts centered on Su Xiao, dried grass flutters, and small debris scatters.

As the aura sweeps through and stops after spreading 30 meters, unfortunately, it doesn’t affect anyone, indicating the enemy’s stealth ability isn’t light refraction or Shadow Series.

Golden light flashes on Su Xiao’s cuff as black tadpole patterns extend around—Basic Spatial Imprisonment ability can restrict spatial fluctuations within 50 meters and suppress fifth-tier or lower Space-type skills, with effects lasting 30 minutes.

After sealing the surrounding space, Su Xiao again observes the area, and still finds no anomalies.

”Bu Bu.”

As Su Xiao speaks, Bu Bu Wang appears by his side, though it has been here all along.

”Is it existence masking?”

Bu Bu Wang possesses this type of ability, thus has some resistance to such stealth abilities; if the enemy is indeed of this type, it can somewhat sense the enemy’s presence.

Bu Bu Wang shakes its head, indicating it cannot perceive the opponent at all.

”A Mu, clear the field.”

Su Xiao looks a kilometer away where the Contractors have stopped to watch the scene.

At this moment, the Bald Captain feels ’relieved.’ He had considered attacking the sniper multiple times until... the sniper pulled out an at least Gold Quality long knife and unleashed a terrifying aura, leaving him thankful for not rushing in sooner. That cunning old fox isn’t a sniper—80% likely a close combat fighter, with long-range sniping perhaps compensating for the Lone Ranger’s shortcomings.

Upon noticing A Mu’s movements, the Bald Captain decides without hesitation to retreat with his men; he witnessed A Mu collide with Yubi previously.

As the Bald Captain leads his men away, A Mu abstains from further pursuit, returning near Su Xiao.

Su Xiao sits on a massive rock and determines that the assassin remains nearby, although the type of stealth means used by the opponent remains unknown.

Currently, the situation is such that the female assassin cannot escape, and revealing herself is out of the question; she specializes in assassination, while confronting Su Xiao in close combat would result in her being utterly dominated.
