Chapter 46: Chapter 14: The Terrifying Intuition

After arriving at the West Street District, Su Xiao didn’t get out of the car immediately.

”Maniwa Haruo, do you have any specific information about the West Street District?”

Although there are ghoul interfeedings in the West Street District, there are also some civilians living nearby.

”Of course, after being assigned to District 14, I fully understood the information here.”

Maniwa Haruo searched through the car for a while and found a file folder.

”District 14: Nakano District, this area is prevalent with shared eating, and most ghouls are hiding among ordinary people. Various forces’ ghouls are distributed here, making it a social place for ghouls, with many ghoul intelligence dealers...”

Su Xiao lit a cigarette and silently listened to Maniwa Haruo’s description.

Opening the car window, Su Xiao exhaled a puff of blue smoke.

”Associate Special Class Bai Ye, please do not smoke. There are over 4,000 chemical substances in cigarettes, among which 60 are highly harmful to the body, including: nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide, irritant compounds...

And secondhand smoke affects my skin.”

The blue smoke lingered as Su Xiao spoke:

”Can you find a bar called ’Helter Skelte,’ it should be nearby.”

Maniwa Haruo sighed helplessly.

”No problem.”

Taking out a small computer, Maniwa Haruo began checking the nearby map.

”Found it, it’s right at...”

Before Maniwa Haruo finished speaking, Su Xiao suddenly sat up straight and looked at a passerby on the street.

”Ghoul.”

The sharp look in Su Xiao’s eyes startled Maniwa Haruo.

”What?”

Maniwa Haruo stared at Su Xiao blankly, unable to believe that Su Xiao could identify a ghoul merely by sight.

Su Xiao got out of the car and followed a middle-aged man at a steady pace.

The middle-aged man looked weary, like an office worker struggling in his career, carrying a briefcase in his hand.

”Associate Special Class Bai Ye, wait for me.”

Maniwa Haruo hurriedly followed Su Xiao, carrying a suitcase.

”Can you tell me how you determined that man is a ghoul?”

”Intuition.”

The middle-aged man ahead turned and walked into a small alley, and Su Xiao quickly followed.

”Intui~, intuition?”

There was a hint of doubt in Maniwa Haruo’s eyes as he watched Su Xiao’s back, wondering if this second-level investigator really had no issues.

In the dark and damp alley, the middle-aged man continued to walk at a slow pace.

”Stop.”

A slightly chilling voice came from behind the middle-aged man.

”Who are you?”

The middle-aged man looked at Su Xiao in confusion, glancing around with his peripheral vision.

”Next time, don’t use a briefcase to carry human flesh, the blood will seep out.”

Su Xiao’s words caused the middle-aged man’s face to change; his gaze became panicked.

”Mind your own business, you’re looking for death.”

The middle-aged man’s expression suddenly turned fierce, red eyes appeared, as he swiftly charged at Su Xiao.

The ghoul in front of him wasn’t strong, just around Level B, so Su Xiao didn’t even bother to draw out ”Dragon Slash.”

The middle-aged man lunged at Su Xiao in a few steps, aiming a punch at his head, but his movements were stiff and very slow.

Such an attack didn’t even interest Su Xiao in dodging.

Raising his left leg abruptly, Su Xiao kicked the middle-aged man in the abdomen, causing him intense pain, his body folding into a V shape, as he coughed up a large amount of acidic fluid.

In that moment, the middle-aged man’s posture left his head right in front of Su Xiao.

Taking advantage, Su Xiao wrapped his arm around the middle-aged man’s neck, tightening it mercilessly.

”Let~, let go of me, you...”

As Su Xiao tightened his grip on the middle-aged man’s neck, Maniwa Haruo hurriedly ran into the alley.

”Crack.”

A crisp sound of bones being snapped echoed as the middle-aged man’s body suddenly went limp, and Su Xiao released his hold, allowing the man’s corpse to slump to the ground.

”Get someone to clean up.”

Walking past Maniwa Haruo, Su Xiao ordered, while Maniwa Haruo looked at the now dead ghoul in astonishment.

This made Maniwa Haruo wonder if it was really possible to identify ghouls through mere intuition.

Su Xiao returned to the car, still unsure why, when he inadvertently saw the middle-aged man, he suddenly had the feeling that the person was a ghoul.

At that moment, the briefcase in the man’s hand hadn’t started bleeding; that happened later.

Su Xiao secretly speculated that it might be related to his attribute enhancements.

As his attributes improved, he felt a significant change in his body; while his physique hadn’t changed, all his muscles were noticeably firmer and more powerful.

Before entering Reincarnation Paradise, Su Xiao practiced his sword techniques for long hours daily.

The unscientific training had caused some injury to his right wrist, which would ache when it was cloudy or rainy.

But now, his old wrist injury was almost healed, and it wouldn’t be long before it fully recovered.

Maniwa Haruo also returned to the car, and this time, her gaze towards Su Xiao was distinctly different.

”Associate Special Class Bai Ye, where are we going?”

”Helter Skelte bar.”

The car started and five minutes later, the two arrived in front of the ’Helter Skelte’ bar.

”Wait for me in the car.”

Su Xiao got out, leaving Maniwa Haruo alone.

The ’Helter Skelte’ bar was operated by a female ghoul named Etori.

Although Su Xiao didn’t know the exact location, he knew it was a small intelligence hub.

He wasn’t there to oust Etori but to gather intelligence.

Etori was an SS-level ghoul, and under normal circumstances, Su Xiao wouldn’t let her go, but she had a more important use.

A ghoul intelligence dealer was far more valuable than a single treasure chest, and through Etori, Su Xiao could obtain more treasure chests.

Entering the bar, there were no guests inside as it was daytime.

The bar had a retro style, with walls on all sides featuring no decoration, displaying a dim yellow color. The entire bar didn’t have a single window, except for a single lamp on the bar counter, giving the place a slightly dimly lit atmosphere.

”Welcome.”

A somewhat languid female voice came from behind the bar, as Su Xiao sat at the bar counter.

”Guest, what would you like to drink?”

Etori stood behind the bar, her orange-red long hair particularly noticeable in the dim bar, being the most vibrant color in the entire place.

Etori appeared calm, but was actually extremely vigilant. As an intelligence dealer, she immediately recognized Su Xiao’s appearance.

Noticing Etori’s gaze, Su Xiao knew it would make things easier.

”Answer me one question, and I won’t trouble you.”

Etori stepped back a few steps, maintaining a safe distance from Su Xiao.

”Third-class Investigator Bai Ye, a monster-level human who fought with Aet.”

The bar fell into a deathly silence; neither of them spoke.

Etori’s intelligence-gathering ability somewhat surprised Su Xiao. Although it made sense for her to know about Takatsuki Sen, she even knew that he had joined the CCG.

”Speak, what question.”

Etori sighed, choosing to relent.

”Where is the shared feed area in District 14?”

”It’s right here, in the West Street District.”

Etori picked up a glass beside her, containing half a cup of dark red liquid that looked like red wine but was actually human blood.

The taste buds of ghouls differ from those of humans, making them experience a strong fishy taste when consuming human food.

Even with beverages, ghouls can’t consume anything except for water and coffee, as all human foods taste abnormal to them.

”The specific location in the West Street District, the more specific, the better.”

Su Xiao was starting to become impatient.

”Don’t show such a terrifying expression.

Alright, alright, every night after nine, the central part of the West Street District is the area with the most severe shared eating.”

Etori didn’t hesitate too much before betraying the other ghouls.

Having understood the specifics, Su Xiao left the bar, having already thought of a quick method to complete his mission.

If everything went smoothly, he could complete the main storyline mission (2) in less than a week.

”What exactly does shared eating look like? It’s certainly something to ’look forward to.’”
