Reincarnation Paradise Park

Chapter 43: Chapter 11: Female High School Student

”Hey, hey, we’re all colleagues, we should get along peacefully. Tokaji, you can’t greet colleagues like that.”

Yukinori Shinohara stepped between the two, starting to impart some basic knowledge to Shuuzou Suzuya.

For someone who lacks even basic common sense, Su Xiao naturally wouldn’t get too upset.

However, if given the chance in the future, he would definitely teach this brat a lesson.

”Is that so~? I see, I’m sorry~.”

Shuuzou Suzuya laughed, sincerely apologizing to Su Xiao, truly a contradictory personality.

”Mr. Shinohara, is the test over?”

Yukinori Shinohara flexed his still numb arms and nodded.

”It’s over, you’re now officially a Ghoul Investigator for the CCG.”

Yukinori Shinohara’s expression became serious.

”Becoming a Ghoul Investigator is a responsibility. Protecting ordinary people and driving away those man-eating ghouls is our primary duty. We may have to make sacrifices for it, but it’s worth it... ”

The impassioned speech began. Although Su Xiao found it boring, he didn’t show any signs of impatience.

”That’s all. If you’ve got the mental preparation, you can start executing tasks now. However, Third-class Investigators cannot act alone and need the protection of a First-Class Investigator... ”

Su Xiao lightly coughed.

”Mr. Shinohara, do you really think anyone can protect me?”

Yukinori Shinohara laughed brightly, shaking his head.

”Well~, those are the rules.”

”I can handle it alone. It’s just driving away ghouls. As long as I achieve the goal, the process doesn’t matter.”

After hesitating for a long time, Yukinori Shinohara nodded. Indeed, Su Xiao didn’t need the protection of a First-Class Investigator; instead, Su Xiao could likely protect them.

”If that’s the case, I’ll give you a lead on a ghoul now.”

Yukinori Shinohara walked to the desk and handed Su Xiao a file.

Su Xiao examined the contents, which were quite messy—such as strange noises coming from the sewers, missing female students, and similar issues.

”This is our daily work. Ghouls are extremely cunning, especially in District 14, which isn’t particularly stable but isn’t chaotic either.”

Driving away ghouls isn’t a simple task.

Most ghouls in District 14 hide among ordinary people, only revealing themselves when hunting. At other times, they remain concealed.

Ghouls only need to hunt once or twice a month to meet their physical needs. To drive them away, the primary task is to identify them.

For Su Xiao, most of the difficulty in driving away ghouls lies in finding them. Once located, the task becomes simpler.

”The information you’re holding now should be about the traces of a single ghoul. Find him and drive him away.”

Yukinori Shinohara’s expression was solemn, with a flicker of murderous intent in his eyes.

”No problem.”

Su Xiao turned to leave the office. Although there was plenty of time, he didn’t want to waste it.

”Bai Ye, remember to pick up your tools from the logistics department. Those tools are quite useful.”

Su Xiao paused, nodded, and then left.

”Another cold colleague, sigh, it’s really troublesome.”

Yukinori Shinohara sat behind his desk, pressing his forehead lightly. Seeing Shuuzou Suzuya grinning dumbly, Shinohara felt even more troubled.

Su Xiao first went to the logistics department, presented his identification, and collected many tools.

An hour later, Su Xiao arrived alone in a park, squatting on a bench by the roadside.

The park was lush with greenery, a gentle breeze rustling the leaves. The midday sun scorched the ground, and the summer cicadas clung to the trunks, screeching.

Due to the heat, the park was sparsely populated, but Su Xiao sat in the shade, feeling quite cool.

The information provided by Yukinori Shinohara wasn’t detailed but pointed to a general target: over the past six months, there had been over a dozen disappearances in this park.

The CCG has a clear division of labor, with ordinary investigators tasked with finding clues, as their combat strength isn’t high.

When clues are relatively clear and there’s a chance of encountering ghouls, a First-Class Investigator personally leads the search with subordinates, avoiding unnecessary casualties among ordinary investigators.

Even so, five ordinary investigators have already disappeared in this park.

Previously, Yukinori Shinohara planned to patrol, intending to come to this park.

Su Xiao paid attention to the passing pedestrians, but after a long time, there were no findings. He wasn’t anxious.

According to the information from Yukinori Shinohara, there hadn’t been any disappearances in this park for two weeks.

That ghoul would soon appear because this was their hunting ground.

Some activities of ghouls are similar to wild beasts, like dividing territories (hunting grounds). Due to territorial disputes, ghouls may even fight each other.

Within no more than three days, this ghoul would show up, and their level was likely not low—definitely not below Level A.

Most ghoul deaths result from being unable to control their hunger, ultimately discovered by investigators.

Success is inseparable from patience, so Su Xiao sat on the park bench, silently waiting.

Time flew by, and it was already past three in the afternoon.

A soothing melody wafted from afar.

”A school?”

Su Xiao gazed across at a building in the distance. Half an hour later, the park’s visitors gradually increased, mainly high school students just dismissed from school.

Ghouls mostly hunt at night, so Su Xiao planned to stay overnight.

”Brother, sitting here all alone, aren’t you feeling lonely?”

A female high school student in a school uniform sat down beside Su Xiao, wearing a cool upper garment and a black miniskirt.

Su Xiao’s eyes narrowed.

”...”

Silence.

”Tch~, what a boring guy.”

Seeing Su Xiao ignoring her, the female student got up and walked away.

As night fell, the park lights came on.

Su Xiao had been squatting for an entire afternoon, naturally feeling a bit hungry. Just as he was about to get up and eat dinner, he suddenly heard a short scream.

The scream was very brief, just a moment, but he keenly caught it.

Su Xiao immediately got up and quickly ran towards the source of the sound, which came from a corner of the park, not far from him.

Arriving at the location, Su Xiao scanned the surroundings but found nothing. Not even a ghostly shadow was around, let alone a person.

He couldn’t have mistaken the scream. Something must have happened here.

After a careful inspection, Su Xiao found a few drops of blood at the edge of a flowerbed, along with half a broken fingernail.

He touched the blood with his fingers. It was already cool but not yet coagulated, indicating it was fresh.

”Crunch, crunch~.”

The sound of flesh being torn and bitten came from the nearby forest. Su Xiao quietly entered, and a brutal scene unfolded before his eyes.

A victim, whose appearance was unclear, lay on the ground, being devoured by a ghoul above.

Finding a ghoul should have been good news, but Su Xiao frowned.

The ghoul in front of him wasn’t strong, perhaps only Level B. With such barbaric feeding methods, it was unlikely to evade ordinary investigators.

Watching the ghoul devour ravenously, Su Xiao guessed the situation.

This might not be the ghoul’s hunting ground, but their hunger drove them to take a risk.

”Wild Dog, who allowed you to hunt in my feeding ground? Do you want to die?”

A crisp female voice echoed through the trees. At the same time, a thin Heko flashed towards the feeding ghoul.

”Wham.”

A head flew up. Before the feeding ghoul could speak, he was beheaded, terror etched across his face.

The owner of the Heko emerged from the trees. Seeing her face clearly, Su Xiao was a bit surprised. It was the same female high school student he had seen during the day.

She was a ghoul.
