Dungeon Corpse Stacker: I Absorb Everything to Become Ominous Monarch

The freezing spray washing over the forward deck of the HMS Iron Duke carried the reek of burned lubricant and wet ash.

Captain Harrington braced his boots against the brass rail of the starboard bridge wing, his fingers digging into the wet painted steel until his knuckles went pale. Through his binoculars, the horizon where the flagship had once sailed was empty. The four thousand ton hull of the Vanguard was gone, swallowed entirely by the jagged basalt ribs of the newly raised continental shelf.

”Captain, radar contact on the forecastle,” the tactical officer stammered from the interior compartment, his voice cracking against the hum of the gyroscopes. ”Mass reading indicates single infantry target, but the kinetic displacement registered at sixty tons upon impact. The twin forty-millimeter mount just went dark.”

Harrington did not need the instruments to tell him what had landed on his ship.

Through the rain, thirty yards forward of the bridge windows, a tall silhouette stood motionless upon the crushed housing of the automated gun mount. The creature was encased in fluted plate armor of dark star-metal, rimmed with jagged silver runes that cast cold, pale geometry across the blood-slick teak decking.

A torn cape of silver silk whipped in the offshore gale.

”Identify yourself,” Harrington whispered, his voice catching in his throat as he raised the bridge loudspeaker microphone. ”You are trespassing on a commissioned vessel of His Majesty’s Fleet. Identify, or we will depress the secondary batteries and fire point-blank.”

The dark titan on the bow did not reach for a firearm.

He slowly tilted his horned visor upward, looking directly through the armored bridge glass into Harrington’s eyes.

Behind the narrow slits of the faceplate, two cold embers of pale argent twilight ignited. The light was not chaotic or feral; it was steady, ancient, and possessed the exact, terrifying clarity of the man who had pinned the Victoria Cross to Harrington’s tunic five years ago in Portsmouth.

The microphone slipped from Harrington’s fingers, clattering loudly against the deckplates.

”Sir Arthur,” the captain breathed, his chest seizing as if plunged into glacial brine. ”Dear God in heaven, what did they do to you?”

The shadow knight drew the nine-foot claymore resting against his hip.

The metal did not scrape against a sheath. It pulled free from the surrounding air with a high-pitched acoustic hum that made every copper pipe on the bridge shiver. The liquid silver darkness running along the fuller pulsed once in synchronization with the sea swells below.

Behind Arthur, the black water churning along the frigate’s hull began to boil.

Three hundred liquid silhouettes emerged from the waves, vaulting over the guard rails in absolute, soundless unison. They were not shambling corpses. They were agile, slender shadow skirmishers forged from the extracted souls of the sunken destroyer crews, their hands gripping jagged harpoons and serrated boarding axes synthesized from midnight ice.

”Repel boarders,” Harrington screamed into the ship-wide intercom, the panic finally shattering his military discipline. ”All hands to battle stations! Fire on the bow! Depress the guns and fire!”

The forward twenty-millimeter rotary cannons on the bridge roof spun up, spitting a deafening stream of armor-piercing tracer rounds down onto the forecastle.

A hurricane of tungsten ammunition tore across the teak deck, shredding the wood into splinters and filling the air with acrid cordite smoke.

Shadow Knight Arthur did not raise a shield.

He took a single, measured stride forward, rotating his wrist so the long claymore swept in a lazy, upward diagonal crescent.

A razor-thin crescent of spatial friction severed the air between the bow and the bridge.

The incoming stream of three hundred supersonic rounds hit an invisible vertical seam twenty feet in front of Arthur. The heavy tungsten bullets did not bounce off armor; they sheared cleanly in half along their trajectory, their explosive filler detonating harmlessly in mid-air in a horizontal curtain of sparks.

The crescent of silver light continued forward without losing velocity.

It sliced through the twin rotary mounts on the bridge roof, cut through four structural steel support beams, and exited through the rear radar mast eighty feet above the sea.

The entire upper gun platform slid sideways with a horrifying screech of parted metal, tumbling into the frothing wake of the port side.

On the open deck, fifty royal marines in tactical combat rigs charged forward from the companionways, their enchanted assault rifles chattering in frantic, three-round bursts. They were seasoned operators who had cleared monster dens in the North Sea, men trained to fight through terror and blood.

Yet as they approached the shadow vanguard, their boots slowed.

The three hundred shadow skirmishers did not charge blindly. Under the passive aura of Arthur’s Silver Vanguard trait, the dark soldiers moved in tight, interlocking phalanxes, their weapons humming with a thirty percent increase in armor-shredding density.

A marine sergeant raised a heavy stun baton, lunging at the nearest shadow.

The shadow skirmisher ducked low beneath the swing, its serrated boarding axe flashing across the sergeant’s thighs. The cut went through reinforced composite weave and ceramic inserts as if parting wet paper, dropping the sergeant to the deck with a muffled cry before two more shadows pinned his limbs to the teak.

Arthur walked past the slaughter without glancing down.

He climbed the steel exterior ladder toward the bridge wing, his heavy sabatons leaving shallow dents in the iron treads with every step. The four bridge sentries stationed at the hatch raised their sidearms with trembling hands, their fingers jerking against the triggers.

Arthur did not swing his sword.

He simply released a controlled burst of his Spatial Friction Domain.

The air inside the bridge wing compressed into a solid, vibrating wall of kinetic mass. The four sentries were thrown backward against the bulkhead, their weapons crushed into flattened scraps of steel inside their leather holsters, their ribs groaning under an atmospheric weight that pinned them flat against the iron wall.

Arthur stepped through the shattered doorway of the bridge, his silken cape brushing against the glass shards littering the floor.

Captain Harrington stood alone at the central navigation table. His service revolver was out, pointed directly at the center of Arthur’s chest, but the barrel was trembling so violently it tapped against the wooden rim of the chart desk.

”You took an oath to the Queen, Arthur,” Harrington whispered, tears of helpless rage cutting through the soot on his cheeks. ”You swore upon the altar of Canterbury. How can you wear the silver crest while butchering your own men?”

Arthur stopped five feet from the desk, planting the tip of his silver claymore into the floorboards.

The shadow knight did not raise his weapon against his former subordinate.

”The altar you speak of was built on bones, Harrington,” Arthur spoke, his voice carrying the deep, hollow resonance of a tomb sealed for a thousand years. ”The Crown sent four thousand men to drown in this trench so five men in Geneva could retain their maritime monopoly. I no longer serve kings who hide behind paper treaties.”

Arthur reached out his left gauntlet, tearing the primary communications terminal from the bulkhead with a single, effortless pull.

The heavy steel casing ripped free from the copper conduits, showering the navigation table in blue electrical sparks. Arthur flipped the unit over, his dark metal fingers crushing the exterior security casing to expose the glowing brass cylinder of the Admiralty’s Master Encryption Transponder.

This was the Albion Key, the encrypted frequency generator that linked every British naval asset across three oceans to the High Command bunker in Whitehall.

”The Sovereign requires the western frequencies,” Arthur said quietly, sliding the brass cylinder into the leather pouch at his waist.

Harrington lowered his revolver, his shoulders slumping as the last trace of defiance drained from his posture. Outside the bridge windows, the sounds of fighting on the deck had ceased. The second escort frigate, two miles to the north, was already burning from stem to stern, tilted sharply as dozens of shadow skirmishers dragged its rudder into the seabed.

Arthur turned his back on the captain, walking toward the shattered bridge windows that looked out toward the Iron Wall.

Through the sensory link connecting his mind to the abyss, Arthur knelt mentally before the young man standing four miles away on the central bastion.

”The northern flank is cleared, my Sovereign,” Arthur reported, his thoughts echoing in Renan’s skull. ”The Albion Key is secured. The remaining crew awaits your judgment.”

Four miles away, atop the iron bastion, Renan stood with his hands in his coat pockets, looking at the burning frigate through the parting fog.

”Scuttle the engines, Arthur,” Renan replied softly through the link, his purple eyes narrowing toward the western horizon where the storm was beginning to clear. ”Leave the lifeboats intact. Let them row back to Vance with a message.”

Renan pulled his right hand from his coat, his fingers tracing the edge of the void dagger.

”Tell Vance that the next ship to cross this trench will not carry soldiers,” Renan whispered into the wind. ”It will carry his coffin.”
