The Spirit Lord didn’t respond immediately. Its gaze remained fixed on Feng Qi before a raspy voice finally spoke:

”I presume there are other forces backing you? If you provide useful information, I might spare your life.”

”As I said, I’m even less likely to survive now,” Feng Qi replied with a calm shake of his head.

”Wait a moment. I need to access your information first,” the Spirit Lord said, closing its eyes.

A crimson energy thread materialized above its head, extending upward and piercing into the void.

Feng Qi watched as countless energy particles emerged from the void, flowing along the energy thread and surging into the Spirit Lord’s brain.

”The Holy Spirit Consciousness Repository?”

The Spirit Lord opened its eyes. ”It seems you’re quite familiar with our Holy Spirit Clan, Feng Qi.”

”Why does your Holy Spirit Consciousness Repository contain information about me?” he couldn’t help but ask, his curiosity piqued.

”To expand our knowledge and data, the Spirit Energy Clan has over a hundred clansmen dedicated to learning. They memorize all the information accessible through the Old Day Research Institute’s permissions and upload it to the Holy Spirit Consciousness Repository. We’ve already recorded about 80% of it, including your information,” the Spirit Lord revealed casually.

Hearing this, Feng Qi clicked his tongue in astonishment.

According to the Spirit Energy Clan member before him, their kind essentially carried a human science database with them, able to access shared data from major cities anytime, anywhere.

”Feng Qi, now it’s your turn to answer my question. Which faction is backing you? We don’t necessarily have to be enemies. In the future, we might even form an alliance and advance together.”

Revealing the truth now would undoubtedly betray the Lord of the Mist.

And the Lord of the Mist was his guarantee of becoming stronger 1,500 years later.

The Spirit Energy Clan member spoke casually about a future alliance, but Feng Qi didn’t believe a single word.

The Lord of the Mist’s hidden plan would reshape the future of the world.

If the Spirit Energy Clan discovered the potential dangers of the Flesh and Blood Sacrifice, they would never allow the Lord of the Mist to grow unchecked.

His only concern now was:

If he died here, how would his brain be retrieved by the Scarlet Research Institute?

The situation had escalated suddenly. He hadn’t brought his brain activity needle to the unveiling ceremony, and the Scarlet Special Rescue Team was still in Star City.

He was now in a desperate situation.

He even suspected that this Sacrifice Line was likely a dead end. Apart from the information he had already delivered to the Scarlet Research Institute, he wouldn’t be able to bring any other data back to his main timeline self.

”You don’t have to speak,” the Spirit Lord said, his voice cutting through the silence. ”I have ways to make your backers reveal themselves.”

”What do you plan to do?”

”Promoting Flesh and Blood Sacrifice was clearly intended to help you gather power of faith. This suggests you’re a crucial core in your backers’ future plans. I doubt they’ll abandon you so easily, will they?”

”What do you mean?”

The Spirit Lord didn’t answer, his form slowly dissolving into nothingness.

At that moment, the masked man standing beside him stepped forward and grabbed him by the throat.

Surrendering wasn’t in his nature. He was about to resist when a familiar wave of exhaustion washed over him.

He had barely raised his fist before his body went limp, collapsing into unconsciousness.

When Feng Qi awoke, he found himself imprisoned in a cage crafted from a special metal.

The surroundings were almost completely dark, with only a small hole above allowing a sliver of light to penetrate.

He tried to break free, but even when he unleashed the power of the demon dragon, he couldn’t shatter the metal walls.

For the next few days, Feng Qi remained in solitary confinement.

The Spirit Energy Clan hadn’t killed him, clearly hoping to lure out a bigger catch, but he couldn’t discern their exact plans.

Over the following days, Feng Qi finally understood the Spirit Energy Clan’s intentions.

One day, the prison door swung open, and the masked man escorted him to an experimental platform outside the cell.

There, he saw the Spirit Energy Clan member known as the Spirit Lord once more.

His body was restrained to the platform, and the Spirit Lord began modifying his body.

The process was painless, and he quickly drifted into a deep sleep.

When he awoke again, he found himself completely wrapped in bandages, even his head.

After a day of rest, the Spirit Lord removed the bandages.

Feng Qi discovered that his facial features had been altered, and many other characteristics of his body had changed.

The Spirit Lord’s next words revealed their plan:

”From today onward, you are the human traitor Feng Qi... Oh, and you’ll be publicly executed in Old Day City’s execution grounds in a month.”

TL/N: To those confused, it’s Feng Qi with different Chinese characters, so they ave slightly different intonation and pronunciation.

The Spirit Energy Clan’s plan was to alter his identity, publicly execute him as a human traitor.

They avoided using his original identity, clearly fearing the repercussions.

Although Old Day City was already under the Spirit Energy Clan’s control, his status was too sensitive. If they executed him there, they would face immense public pressure, potentially even from the city’s own residents.

After all, he was now known as the founder of New Era Cultivation Studies. The United Military Department, the United Research Institute, and various factions from other cities would all protest, demanding a reinvestigation.

His identity was simply too volatile.

Even the Spirit Energy Clan dared not execute him rashly.

To draw out the hidden forces behind him, the best approach was to give him a new identity while ensuring his backers understood that this new persona was still Feng Qi.

In the Spirit Energy Clan’s view, Feng Qi was the linchpin of his backers’ future plans.

Once the public execution plan was set in motion, his backers would face only two choices:

1. Risk exposing themselves to save Feng Qi, thereby jeopardizing their faith-gathering scheme.

2. Abandon Feng Qi, abandoning their entire future strategy for gathering faith.

This was undoubtedly a calculated move, a gambit with guaranteed success in the Spirit Energy Clan’s eyes.

Either way, they believed they had already won.

As Feng Qi had predicted, after his body modification was complete, Old Day City launched a massive propaganda campaign.

The city announced the capture of a human traitor loyal to the Domain Force, named ”Feng Qi,” who had been apprehended while infiltrating the Old Day Research Institute.

The news sent shockwaves through the outside world.

Feng Qi was immediately transferred to Old Day City’s execution grounds, where he would await his execution in a month.

During this time, he was brought to the execution platform daily to face the public’s wrath.

Feng Qi understood that this spectacle was clearly designed to ensure news of his imprisonment reached the Lord of the Mist.

The citizens who came to hurl stones at him each day never suspected that the man bound to the execution platform was none other than their beloved human prodigy, ”Feng Qi.”

Even though their names differed by only a single character.
