The Lord of the Mist nodded, then looked at Feng Qi curiously.

”Having spent so many years in human society, can you explain why humans worship deities?”

”I’ve always been puzzled by one thing: why do humans worship so-called gods? Even if these deities truly exist, they’ve never offered any tangible feedback. What’s the point of believing in them?”

Faced with this question, Feng Qi fell silent.

After a moment of contemplation, he turned to the Lord of the Mist and asked, ”Does the Mist Clan have gods they worship?”

”No. We believe only in the power to change fate.”

Feng Qi wasn’t surprised by this answer. He continued, ”Then do you believe in fate?”

”No. To me, fate is merely an excuse for the weak. Only losers attribute their failures to destiny. What’s laughable is that these weaklings who believe in fate also claim the successes of the strong are predetermined.”

Feng Qi found himself partially agreeing with the Lord of the Mist’s words.

But not entirely.

His experiences across multiple timelines had shown him that fate truly existed.

In the depths of the cosmos, certain historical events seemed destined to occur.

And he was a unique anomaly.

Like a butterfly flitting through the river of history, his every flap of wings altered the course of everyone’s fate.

Therefore, he believed in fate, yet he also rejected it.

He believed in the existence of fate, but not in the idea that it was predetermined and unchangeable.

His efforts across multiple timelines were precisely aimed at defying fate and altering destiny.

”Do you think humanity’s faith in the Gods is related to fate?” the Lord of the Mist asked curiously.

”Yes. All believers believe in fate and that faith in the Gods can alter their predetermined path, guiding them toward a better future. Many even believe in divine judgment after death.”

”Utter foolishness.”

”Actually, I have great faith in humanity as a species. They possess the mindset of the strong. Their only weakness is their extremely short history of exposure to spiritual energy. But there’s no doubt that if this species can develop steadily, they will possess immense growth potential. It’s just that many of their behaviors, in my view, should have been discarded long ago.”

Hearing this, Feng Qi couldn’t help but shake his head.

”You dismiss faith as useless simply because it doesn’t provide humans with tangible benefits. But the truth is, even though these believers receive no direct feedback from the Gods, they draw strength from the depths of their own hearts.”

”Especially when someone is in dire straits, faith can sometimes unleash unimaginable potential.”

”Moreover, faith brings many positive benefits.”

Seeing the Lord of the Mist’s puzzled expression, he explained:

”Let me give you an example. Years ago, a major incident occurred on the coast of Old Day City. A group of fishermen, driven by greed, hid an entire battle group’s cargo at the bottom of the sea. The battle group, responsible for transporting the supplies, faced mission failure and even the risk of having to pay compensation.”

”Faced with the fishermen’s denials, they were helpless. The battle group’s first rule forbade harming civilians, and the fishermen flatly refused to admit they had hidden the cargo.”

”In the end, the battle group leader took the fishermen to the Dragon King Temple by the sea and made them swear before the dragon king’s divine statue that they had not hidden the supplies.”

”The fishermen, who had stubbornly denied everything, finally hesitated when confronted with the God they worshipped. They eventually confessed their actions. This is one manifestation of faith’s power, which contributes to the stability of a community.”

After hearing Feng Qi’s explanation, the Lord of the Mist fell into deep thought.

Seeing the confusion on the Lord of the Mist’s face, Feng Qi shook his head.

He knew the Lord of the Mist needed time to digest and understand his explanation.

Although the Lord of the Mist had inhabited multiple human bodies and accessed countless human memories throughout his journey, these memories were fragmented, like watching a movie without any sense of immersion.

The Lord of the Mist could learn many human customs through these memories, but he couldn’t grasp their essence.

Take faith, for example.

Living in the domain world, where survival of the fittest reigned supreme, the Lord of the Mist believed that might made right. He would never dream of relying on some ethereal deity to protect his clan.

Humans, on the other hand, had lived in an era of peace, pursuing spiritual transcendence.

But after the Domain Invasion, faith in deities dwindled among humans.

In the harsh environment, more and more humans turned to worshiping human heroes. Shifting from ethereal deity worship to seeking tangible results, just as the Lord of the Mist had described.

Ultimately, the difference in their environments shaped their ways of thinking.

After further discussion, the topic of establishing divine statues was temporarily set aside.

Feng Qi turned to the Lord of the Mist and asked, ”When do you plan to start promoting the Flesh and Blood Sacrifice?”

”We can’t rush this,” the Lord of the Mist replied. ”I need to lay the groundwork first. Tomorrow, I’ll transfer you to the Cultivation Technique Research Group and have the Nightshadow Clan-controlled technique researchers collaborate with you on the research. Simultaneously, we’ll release preliminary information to generate buzz... In short, we’ll spread the word that Feng Qi is about to undertake a major project.”

”Then we’ll provide real-time updates, fueling public curiosity about your research. During this period, I’ll also help promote your work under Lin Ran’s name. Once the hype has built up, we can smoothly launch the Flesh and Blood Sacrifice. At that point, countless cultivators will inevitably follow suit and begin practicing it.”

The Lord of the Mist paused, then continued, ”As for the efficacy of the Flesh and Blood Sacrifice, no existing cultivation technique in human cultivation studies can rival it. To put it in Xiao Liu’s words from the steel mill, ’There’s not a single one that can hold a candle to it.’”

Feng Qi nodded, observing the Lord of the Mist’s confident smile. He then asked, ”By the way, what are your plans for the Technology Research Institute?”

The Lord of the Mist immediately replied, ”I’ve already considered this. While the Technology Research Institute has no direct connection to us, they will undoubtedly become one of our future competitors. We need to quickly uncover the true nature of their Black Reaper Project.”

”So, what do you intend to do?”

”I plan to cultivate several spies with scientific research potential and then find a way to infiltrate the Technology Research Institute’s core circle to uncover their secrets.”

Hearing this, Feng Qi realized the timeline had returned to its normal course.

According to the original timeline, one of the spies cultivated by the Lord of the Mist would successfully infiltrate the Technology Research Institute’s core circle.

More importantly, that spy had infiltrated the first tier of the core circle, gaining access to its most closely guarded secrets.

If Feng Qi hadn’t diverted the Technology Research Institute’s attention, that spy might have died without ever being exposed.
