Hijacking the Timeline

After the inquiry concluded, Feng Qi’s life returned to its usual rhythm.

Public opinion was gradually building, and the popularity of Flesh and Blood Sacrifice steadily increased.

He had become the focus of public attention, with everything progressing according to the Lord of the Mist’s plan.

One early morning, the sky was still dimly lit, with low-hanging dark clouds and a steady drizzle.

For the first time in a long while, the south gate of Tiger Soul Base stood wide open.

A long convoy of trucks snaked along the main road, passing through security checkpoints at the gate before entering Tiger Soul Base and heading toward the warehouse area.

The Tiger Soul Research Institute’s warehouse was located at the rear of the base.

It was surrounded by walls cast from a special metal, with three checkpoints along the route equipped with instruments to detect lifeform fluctuations.

A 30-person security team patrolled the warehouse perimeter around the clock, rotating shifts every eight hours.

Feng Qi stood outside the warehouse walls, watching the approaching convoy of trucks.

He turned to his assistant, who stood beside him, and nodded.

The assistant was a former member of the Nightshadow Clan who had been subdued.

His current name was Ye Er.

Ye Er turned to face the metal wall and entered a long string of codes into the wall’s screen.

With a rumble, the metal wall slowly sank into the ground.

The warehouse then rapidly extended and unfolded, like a base vehicle from the Red Alert game.

In moments, a lift platform rose from the center of the base’s warehouse, descending into the underground storage facility.

The transport convoy simultaneously pulled up outside the warehouse.

”Begin the resource inventory,” Feng Qi instructed.

Hearing this, the members of the Tiger Soul Battle Group standing behind him stepped forward to help unload the cargo.

Each shipping container was opened, and its contents were inventoried.

The process was remarkably simple: a quick scan with a handheld device was all it took. The detection instruments developed by the Technology Research Institute automatically categorized and recorded the resources within each container.

On the tablet in Feng Qi’s hand, the resource quantities on the inventory list steadily increased as the scanner detected spirit materials, which were displayed in real-time on his screen.

This monthly resource inventory was a task Feng Qi personally supervised.

The Lord of the Mist cared little for the research projects at the Tiger Soul Research Institute, but he was fiercely protective of its resources. When present, he personally oversaw the inventory process.

Now that the Lord of the Mist was focused on his plan against the Scarlet Research Institute, this responsibility naturally fell to Feng Qi.

After half a day of meticulous inventorying, the month’s allocated spirit materials had been accounted for.

Once the inventory list was confirmed accurate, Feng Qi issued the order, and the bulk of the spirit materials were lowered into the underground storage facility via the lift platform.

The remaining spirit materials would be sent to various branch bases, the Headquarters Research Project Group, and the Tiger Soul Restaurant.

After a half-day of work, Feng Qi’s clothes were soaked through by the rain.

Just as he was about to return to his room to change, he noticed a figure approaching him slowly from the South Gate.

The figure’s clothes were tattered, but a confident smile radiated from his face.

It was the Lord of the Mist, who had been gone for over ten days.

Seeing the Lord of the Mist’s smile, Feng Qi knew the mission had clearly succeeded.

As the Lord of the Mist drew closer, he stepped right up to Feng Qi and clapped him on the chest, grinning widely.

”The plan worked,” he declared.

Feng Qi wasn’t surprised by this news.

In the normal timeline, the Lord of the Mist had also succeeded.

Without the Lord of the Mist’s dark influence over the Wolf Pack Battle Group’s leadership, Feng Qi would never have become the group’s new leader in the Sacrifice Line, nor would he have been successfully promoted to the Technology Research Institute’s second-tier core team.

After exchanging details, Feng Qi gained a rough understanding of the Lord of the Mist’s experiences in Twilight City.

The operation had proceeded flawlessly.

At this stage, the Technology Research Institute was already wary of the Scarlet Research Institute.

Over time, this wariness would gradually transform into outright hostility, as the Lord of the Mist’s subsequent plans unfolded.

After hearing the Lord of the Mist’s account, Feng Qi glanced at the man’s tattered clothes and a smile crept across his face.

”Since you’re back, the current phase of the ’stoking the flames’ operation must be over. What are your plans now?”

”I’ll go into seclusion for a few months first, then consider the next steps. Strengthening my power remains the top priority.”

As he spoke, the Lord of the Mist turned to Ye Er, who was following behind him. His tone turned cold as he barked, ”Ye Er, open the warehouse door. Your master needs to enter seclusion.”

Ye Er, whose life was now completely under the Lord of the Mist’s control after practicing the Flesh and Blood Sacrifice, trembled but swiftly ran back to the warehouse’s metal wall and entered the code.

The recently restored metal wall sank again, and the warehouse base unfolded like a blooming flower.

The Lord of the Mist patted Ye Er’s shoulder. ”I’m going into seclusion now. Contact me through the communicator if anything urgent arises.”

”Go ahead.”

The Lord of the Mist nodded and strode toward the resource warehouse’s elevator platform.

This warehouse held immense significance for the Tiger Soul Research Institute, having been designated a forbidden zone. But to the Lord of the Mist, it was merely a treasure trove of readily available spiritual resources.

As Feng Qi watched the Lord of the Mist step onto the elevator platform, he turned to leave.

But then he saw the Lord of the Mist raise his right hand and give him a thumbs-up with a smile.

Feng Qi: ...…
