Hijacking the Timeline

Forty days later.

11:00 PM.

At the Tiger Soul Research Institute, a special plane bound for Twilight City took off.

Feng Qi remained awake at this late hour.

The Lord of the Mist’s first phase of his plan to dismantle the Scarlet Research Institute had officially commenced.

Sitting on the sofa in his room, Feng Qi pulled out his phone and dialed the Scarlet Research Institute.

After a long wait, the call connected.

A familiar voice answered from the other end:

”Aren’t you supposed to be asleep? Don’t you know staying up late causes baldness?”

”Old Mist just left. I have some urgent intelligence for you.”

”Hold on, let me grab a pen.”

The sound of rustling clothes and hurried footsteps came through the line.

About five minutes later, Wei Wei’s voice returned:

”I’m ready now.”

Without hesitation, Feng Qi began:

”Remember the intelligence I gave you about Twilight City being attacked by the Technology Research Institute? The Lord of the Mist is actually behind it. Here’s the full story...”

For the next half hour, he laid out the Lord of the Mist’s entire plan.

This wasn’t to preemptively seek countermeasures against the Lord of the Mist.

Having chosen to side with the Lord of the Mist in this timeline, Feng Qi wouldn’t consider any countermeasures against him.

His primary motive was to warn the Scarlet Research Institute in advance, allowing them to prepare for the Technology Research Institute’s future suppression and minimize their losses.

He was particularly concerned about the casualties in Twilight City.

After hearing his explanation, Wei Wei’s voice turned grave.

”I never imagined the Lord of the Mist was the true mastermind. I’ll convene a high-level meeting immediately to discuss how to handle this... But rest assured, our defensive strategies won’t affect you. Our priority is minimizing losses, after all, you’re the core.”

”Thanks, Sister Wei. Get some rest.”

”You too, little brother.”

After hanging up, Feng Qi leaned back on the sofa, lost in thought.

The Lord of the Mist had already departed for Twilight City, marking the official launch of his first step to dismantle the Scarlet Research Institute.

The Lord of the Mist’s plan, meticulously refined over the past few days, was now crystal clear.

He intended to exploit the gruesome deaths of the Wolf Pack Battle Group’s leaders to alert the Black Shadow Faction backing the Technology Research Institute.

Additionally, he would simulate messages from the Wolf Domain Battle Group’s leaders to the Black Shadow Faction, feeding them misinformation.

If this plan succeeded, the Scarlet Research Institute would undoubtedly become a thorn in the side of the Technology Research Institute’s shadowy backers.

This was clearly the primary reason why the Scarlet Base in Twilight City would be attacked across multiple timelines.

According to the normal historical timeline:

The Scarlet Research Institute was not destroyed by the Black Shadow Faction behind the Technology Research Institute.

However, the Lord of the Mist’s plan was actually highly successful.

The Lord of the Mist’s main objective in launching the attack on the Scarlet Research Institute was to seize the spiritual resources originally allocated to them.

Although the Scarlet Research Institute wasn’t destroyed,

it chose to withdraw from the world due to the Technology Research Institute’s relentless suppression, retreating into its underground Secret Base and severing most external ties.

The spiritual resources originally allocated to the Scarlet Research Institute were redistributed within Star City.

The biggest beneficiary of this redistribution was undoubtedly Star City’s other colossal research institute, the Tiger Soul Research Institute.

Therefore, from the perspective of the normal historical timeline, the Lord of the Mist’s plan was undeniably a success.

Feng Qi had initially been deeply concerned about this plan, fearing that his own actions had caused a deviation in history, leading the Lord of the Mist to target the Scarlet Research Institute.

But now it was clear that this was a historical event that would have occurred in the normal timeline anyway.

He simply hadn’t uncovered the relevant intelligence back then.

Only after hearing the Lord of the Mist’s explanation and comparing it to the normal historical timeline did he realize it had all been a false alarm.

As long as Scarlet endured, his timeline wouldn’t be considered a failure.

He found it reassuring that the Scarlet Research Institute had retreated to its underground secret base ahead of time.

Although the subsequent research projects would be hampered by resource scarcity and other issues, at least their safety was guaranteed.

He had no reason to stop the Lord of the Mist from executing his plan against the Scarlet Research Institute.

Leaning back on the sofa, he began to contemplate tomorrow’s press conference.

In recent days, the Lord of the Mist had been using public opinion to build momentum for him.

The outside world was now flooded with evaluations of him and anticipation for Flesh and Blood Sacrifice.

Tomorrow marked the official release of the test results for Flesh and Blood Sacrifice.

At the conference, he would need to answer questions from reporters sent by the Five Great Cities.

This was undoubtedly a crucial step in helping the Lord of the Mist promote Flesh and Blood Sacrifice.

As he pondered, he suddenly sensed imminent danger.

The enhanced danger perception from his Demon Dragon Transformation made the hairs on his neck stand on end. He immediately turned his head to the right.

A bizarrely shaped scythe materialized from thin air, slashing directly toward his head. A familiar blue-skinned figure emerged from the blade’s shadow.

Realizing another Blue-skinned Assassin had appeared, he swiftly dodged to the side.

Boom!

A black streak flashed past, splitting the sofa he had been leaning against in two. The scythe continued forward, leaving a deep gash in the specially reinforced wall.

Feng Qi stared at the Blue-skinned Assassin, who stood about 1.5 meters tall and wielded a massive scythe, and cursed his luck.

In recent times, the frequency of assassination attempts by Blue-skinned Assassins had been steadily increasing.

Fortunately, he had the Lord of the Mist by his side.

Any Blue-skinned Assassin who approached was effortlessly slain by the Lord of the Mist.

But now that the Lord of the Mist had departed, Feng Qi realized he would have to deal with this Blue-skinned Assassin himself.

Clenching his fist, he activated the Demon Dragon Rune Crystal, channeling a continuous surge of power into his body.

Black energy surged from the rune crystal, enveloping his fist.

He stepped forward and swung a ferocious punch at the Blue-skinned Assassin’s head.

The assassin, highly alert, retreated swiftly, retaliating with a downward scythe strike aimed squarely at Feng Qi’s head.

Faced with a blue-skinned assassin who moved even faster than him, Feng Qi could only pull back his punch and dodge, bringing his fist up to block.

The scythe clashed against his fist, sending sparks flying.

The impact sent him flying backward, slamming heavily into the wall.

But such injuries posed no threat to him. The demon dragon’s formidable physique instantly repaired the internal damage from the collision.

He sprang to his feet and lunged forward, narrowly evading another sweeping strike.

After dodging the attack, he straightened up.

As the blue-skinned assassin slowly turned to face him, Feng Qi cursed his luck inwardly.

If he possessed the abilities from the main timeline, he wouldn’t have given this blue-skinned assassin a second thought. He could have pinned the creature to the ground and ground it into dust in a single exchange.

Especially after activating his Blood Source Form, he could have let the assassin slash him with a hundred scythe strikes without flinching.

But in his current state, he clearly lacked such overwhelming power.

As the blue-skinned assassin closed in again, Feng Qi bared his teeth in a ferocious snarl, took a thunderous step forward, and swung his fist with all his might.

Seeing this, the blue-skinned assassin immediately slowed its advance, its expression turning wary.

Seizing the opportunity, Feng Qi abruptly turned and lunged toward the door.

With all his might, he rammed open the specially reinforced metal door and sprinted toward the Core Zone.

”Help!”

The room’s soundproofing was so effective that the sounds of their struggle remained unheard outside.

When Feng Qi suddenly burst out, the Core Researchers in the Core Zone immediately realized something was wrong.

Without hesitation, they pressed the ”Request Assistance” button.
