Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

A day quickly passed by, with about half of the repair progress on Celestial Horse Island complete. The people on the mountain worked very efficiently, but the Satellite Village, which was in ruins, showed little improvement. The workload here was too large, and all the heavy machinery had been dispatched to Chuhai River, making manual repairs quite slow.

It was comforting that everyone was safe. Though the houses were in disrepair, the survivors walked briskly among them, which, in contrast, didn’t seem so gloomy.

“Mr. Zhang, I hope Brother Duan can come back soon. I… I’m really not used to this.”

At dinner time, Fu Weijun wheeled himself next to Zhang Su’s table, looking troubled.

“What’s wrong? Did Xiaozuo make you angry?”

Zhang Su glanced at Zuo Fengjuan, who was quietly eating at a distance. She usually didn’t dine at Little Lucky Restaurant, but now, to take care of Fu Weijun, she had come along.

Fu Weijun frowned, “No, Teacher Zuo is very attentive, but… she’s a woman, and I’m a man. There are always some inconveniences!”

All day, Fu Weijun held back from going to the toilet until he couldn’t hold it any longer. Even though he didn’t let Zuo Fengjuan help, he couldn’t resist her enthusiasm, which left him feeling helpless.

Partly, he didn’t want to show his vulnerable and helpless state to a stranger, and also, there was an uneasiness stemming from the gender gap.

“Right now, besides her, there’s no one available to help with your daily needs, and she is also quite educated. You should have topics to talk about, right? Dr. Xie had feedback before that she has some academic level and isn’t dumb.”

Whether someone is dumb depends on whose perspective you take. For a genius with explosive IQ, everyone else might seem dull. Xie Yanshan’s intelligence is undoubtedly top-tier in the camp, and getting his approval means Zuo Fengjuan has some talent.

Fu Weijun showed some resistance and wanted to say something, but Zhang Su interrupted him.

“If no one takes care of you, can you manage by yourself?”

He didn’t want to force Zuo Fengjuan onto Fu Weijun too harshly, which would raise his suspicion.

Fu Weijun thought seriously for a moment, sighed, and said, “It’s probably my own problem. I’ll adapt. It’s a special time now, and I won’t make trouble for everyone.”

Zhang Su watched as Fu Weijun wheeled himself away. He felt the two small pieces of Golden Thalamus left in his pocket and glanced at Chen Hanzhou dining with Pei Lan, then thought of Qiu Hui, finding it difficult to make a decision in his heart.

“Does Dr. Fu have some emotions?”

Yuwen, carrying a tray, walked over to Zhang Su, glanced at Fu Weijun, and then sat down.

Zhang Su stuffed a large mouthful of rice, shrugged, and expressed helplessness.

“Don’t worry, I’ll tell you something happy.”

Yuwen said with a smile while eating.

“There’s still something happy? Then you must tell me quickly.”

“The aftermath work in the three villages is in full swing, and everyone’s morale is high. I deliberately reassigned the original powers and then guided them. Their cooperation is becoming more and more tacit. Also, this afternoon, I led people to clear the highway; it’s completely passable now from the camp to West Camp Village without needing to detour.”

After Yuwen finished speaking, he took a big bite of rice. There were many debris on the highway, but most of them were not heavy and didn’t require large machinery. They could be cleared manually.

Zhang Su nodded slightly, “Yes, that’s indeed a happy thing. The progress is gratifying. The timing of this small disaster was actually quite good. It can accelerate the breaking of barriers between forces, helping to increase cohesion among survivors and reliance on Celestial Horse Island.”

“Although this can be considered good news, I haven’t even mentioned the really cheerful thing yet.”

After chewing, Yuwen’s mouth curled into a mysterious smile but he didn’t keep him waiting, he continued, “Ma Changshou showed great initiative. While arranging to clear the river, he also sent people into the city to scout the situation, worried that the zombie horde might shift after the shock wave!

As expected, the zombie horde did shift. Based on the footage brought back by the scouts, the zombies scattered in the city are moving towards the southwest. This means the threat of the hundred thousand zombie horde is temporarily lifted!”

Zhang Su was startled upon hearing this news, then took a deep breath: “Good news, this is really good news, hahaha, this way it buys us a lot of time!”

Wherever the zombie horde goes, the survivors there are doomed. This is an unavoidable fact. Zhang Su wouldn’t be noble enough to say, “If I don’t go to hell, who will?” and deliberately lead the zombies to his own camp. Having breathing time is definitely a good thing!

“You know, Old Ma is not bad. When he was an agricultural advisor on the mountain, I couldn’t tell, but he’s quite capable. Good, this really is good news.”

Zhang Su kept praising. During the afternoon training, he was still thinking about the zombie horde in the Qin City District, planning to send people there tomorrow, or at the latest, the day after. Little did he expect that Ma Changshou had already arranged it properly.

As more things came up, some capable people under his command began to maximize their abilities, greatly reducing his work pressure.

“Indeed, Brother Ma must have been a diligent cadre in the village before. Um… after the good news, I have a bit of not-so-good news.”

Yuwen chose to report good news before bad news, based on the actual situation.

Zhang Su exaggeratedly nodded, knowing it was impossible for a camp of several hundred people to have no troublesome issues. He motioned for Yuwen to speak.

“This afternoon, two people took advantage while receiving supplies in the village, taking a few extra items, and got caught by Yang Dongxin on the spot. Many people were present at that time, and those two… gave Yang Dongxin a beating.”

Yuwen tried to recount the conflict calmly.

“Combat personnel, right?”

Zhang Su asked calmly. He was much more temperate than before. As the camp’s population grew, such incidents were inevitable. If he got angry every time, it would just lead to more trouble!

Yuwen nodded, “Yes, two people from the former Little Eagle Association. They actually just took two extra pairs of gloves, two rolls of toilet paper, and a bar of soap. Old Yang is very responsible, but he didn’t notice the approach was wrong. There were too many onlookers at the time, and once the knife is drawn it’s hard to sheath it. But, no matter what, those two were in the wrong.”

Yuwen clearly understood the importance of approach. Wrong methods can turn good deeds into problems, examples abound.

“Old Yang is okay, right?”

“Got punched twice, nose bled a bit, but nothing serious.”

“Let Liu Yao… no, the first conflict incident must be handled seriously. I’ll go myself tomorrow; where do those two live, what’s their names?”

Zhang Su was going to let Liu Yao handle it, but thought the first time should be handled by himself to set an example.

“Village No. 2, one is called Du Shi, the other is Huang Langcai.”

“Du Shi, Huang Langcai… I can’t quite remember. How were their test scores?” Zhang Su only had a very vague impression of these two names.

“Du Shi passed one item, Huang Langcai passed both short runs and vertical jumps.”

Yuwen’s business competency was strong, seemingly anticipating Zhang Su would ask these questions and prepared in advance.

“No wonder, one from the Reserve Corps, one from the Elite Corps, they got bold with confidence, huh? Too bad they didn’t pass all three, it would have been more effective for setting an example!”

Zhang Su didn’t like disorder within his jurisdiction. He had to use thunderous methods to wake everyone up.

“Hmm? What’s wrong, is there more?”

Seeing Yuwen still looking worried, it was clear that the theft and beating weren’t the main point.
