Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

Chapter 752: Chapter 623: Are You King Yama?

“Brother Su, Brother Su, there’s something happening in the north!”

Like a lifesaving sound, the woman’s voice allowed those who were underperforming to breathe a sigh of relief, finally free from criticism, deeply grateful.

The awkward and stiff atmosphere suddenly turned cold. The mention of ‘something is happening’ was like a curse that made the responsible ones furrow their brows.

“I’m here, what’s the situation?”

Zhang Su took a deep breath, adjusted his mood, took the walkie-talkie from his waist, and asked in a deep voice.

“Two vehicles have arrived from Qingbei University, a pickup and a van. They’ve stopped on the road, about… one kilometer from the northern watchtower!”

With a vigilant look, Zhang Ya peered north through the observation window, holding a binocular in one hand and a walkie-talkie in the other, with a charged hand warmer, a thermos, and a rifle on the table beside her.

“They’ve stopped on the road…”

Zhang Su muttered to himself. About a kilometer north of the northern watchtower, next to the road was where the second grape exploded, nothing special apart from that. Just as he was about to inquire further, Zhang Ya spoke again.

“They’re moving, the vehicles are starting, and they’re heading towards us, approaching rapidly!”

Zhang Ya’s tone was serious and tense. She was alone in the sentry post, preventing zombies isn’t a problem, but if both vehicles are hostile, she couldn’t handle it alone.

“Hide well, we’re coming over right away!”

Zhang Su didn’t want Zhang Ya to be exposed, as they couldn’t determine if the newcomers were friend or foe, and if they turned out to be hostile, capturing Zhang Ya as a hostage would be troublesome.

“Hey, big brother, should we notify the brothers on the outskirts?”

Zhao Dezhu stepped forward to ask.

“They’ll keep watch. You’ve all brought weapons, right? Let’s go!”

Zhang Su looked at a few in the Yama Corps. The newcomers had only two vehicles, and about ten people were enough to handle the situation. After speaking, he glanced at the crowd, and just as he was about to speak, the walkie-talkie went off again.

“Brother Su, they’ve parked and are waving at me…”

With a strange expression, Zhang Ya looked at the people on the road through the lookout window.

The sentry post was set up in a barren field, only about forty to fifty meters from the road, and no matter the camouflage, it still looked somewhat conspicuous.

“Did they bring guns?” Zhang Su asked with a furrowed brow.

“Five people got out of the car. They likely have weapons, but haven’t shown them. From what I can see, wait… once, twice, oh, short, long, long… three shorts, three longs, three shorts? Brother Su, they’re signaling for help with their flashlight!”

With a peculiar tone, Zhang Ya expressed her thoughts. This was too bizarre, a group of well-dressed individuals showing up and immediately signaling for help.

“Tell them to wait, we’ll be there in five minutes, and if anything seems off, throw grenades at them!”

Zhang Su stopped dawdling, clipped the walkie-talkie back at his waist, and told everyone, “Testing is over, results out tomorrow. Those below par already know their shortcomings, practice hard, zombies upgrade faster than you all!”

Zhang Su turned away, remembering something, and addressed everyone again, “For those who failed all the tests, you’ll get a retest in three days. Choose a project and train. That’s it!”

With that, he left Village No.1 with the Yama Corps.

The announcement of the final rule reignited hope for those who failed all three, like Su Xiaoya and Wang Zhetao. There weren’t many like them, just about a dozen…

The crowd watched Zhang Su and others leave; once they were out of sight, Zhang Xin said, “So, should we follow and see the situation, in case help is needed, showing our initiative, what do you think?”

In today’s test, Zhang Xin’s performance was decent; the first 200-meter barely passed, failed the second, but the third was his forte, flipping five tires with a second left, passing two tests meant joining the Elite Corps.

“Do they need you or me? The Yama King can single-handedly flip tires, and we’re still rookies. Do they need our help?”

Wu Baokang didn’t feel proud or arrogant for passing all three tests; he genuinely felt the gap. Now wasn’t the time for vanity; without fully recovering advanced weapons, battle still relied on personal strength!

Yuwen was still a member of the Yama Corps, but he no longer participated in outside missions. Hearing the discussions, he opened a portable loudspeaker, “Brave warriors, listen to me, the ice doesn’t form overnight, high-level martial skills don’t come in a day!

Everyone sees the gap, strives hard. The Yama Corps will support, providing a buffer time, treasure the hard-won peace. The next crisis is unknown, aim to grow, let’s go!”

“Let’s go!”

Not daring to shout, the crowd responded evenly, filled with determination.

…

Three vehicles sped towards the northern watchtower, and Zhang Su saw the newcomers from afar.

Braking earlier, stopping at about thirty meters, Yama Corps members exited, the other side hadn’t taken out weapons, but as the owners of the land, carrying rifles was reasonable.

“These friends, where do you come from?”

Zhang Su casually stepped forward a few steps, scrutinizing the newcomers.

All five were burly men in neat dress, not in luxurious attire, but each had a clean down jacket, different styled hats, two wore scarves, gloves stuffed in pockets, and unified work boots on feet.

Credit where credit is due, the five newcomers were outwardly more refined than the Yama Corps, clearly survivors from a large camp. However, their neat appearance couldn’t mask the weariness in their brows, subtly disguised, but not unnoticed by Zhang Su’s keen eye.

A stout man wearing a scarf waved at Zhang Su with a slight smile, “Hello, brother, I’m Shen Linrui, captain of the Dragon Head Camp’s scout team, may I ask for your esteemed name?”

“Dragon Head Camp?”

At the mention, someone beside Zhang Su expressed surprise.

Just vanquished a group of Dragon Head deserters in the morning, and the Dragon Head Camp arrived in the afternoon, indeed well-informed and quick!

Zhang Su’s heart skipped, but after a second thought, something felt off. Why signal for help if they came to confront?

“Ah, friends from the Mountain and Sea District, hello, my surname is Zhang, but outsiders prefer to call me King Yama.”

“King Yama?”

“So King Yama is a person!”

“Wow, we’re actually meeting King Yama?”

The five from Dragon Head Camp were leaning casually initially, but upon hearing the name King Yama, they straightened up, their faces surprised, seemingly sincere, hesitant to believe they’d meet the head of a camp so easily.
