Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

”Five drones, and they’re powerful?”

Shen Linrui’s expression stiffened, then he chuckled bitterly, shook his head, ran a hand through his hair, and said, ”Dragon Head Camp does indeed have drones, quite a few in fact, but just over a month ago, some bastard sabotaged the remote control equipment, and now there’s only one left. However, the person you’re talking about, I think I might know who it is!”

”Captain Shen, could it be that guy?”

”Between the Mountain and Sea District and Qin City, who else could deploy five drones at once if not him!”

”But to think he actually helped us once, at least he didn’t lead the zombies towards the Mountain and Sea District...”

”Ahem!”

Zhang Su saw the group deep in their own discussion and coughed lightly before saying, ”Rather than discussing among yourselves, how about sharing the truth with us, what do you think?”

”Sorry, King Yama, got a bit carried away...”

After apologizing, Shen Linrui pondered for a moment and said, ”I wonder if King Yama has heard of doomsday survival enthusiasts, those people who, during the good times, fantasize about the end of the world every day, and spend money buying all kinds of things, some even building a doomsday fortress for themselves.”

”I’ve heard of them, but unfortunately, I’ve never encountered such people.”

Zhang Su spread his hands.

”No, you have encountered one, the guy who used drones to lure zombies is a doomsday survival enthusiast!”

Shen Linrui said with an odd expression.

”Oh?” Zhang Su exchanged a glance with Xiaoshuai and Pang Dakun, then looked seriously at Shen Linrui and said, ”Tell me more!”

Shen Linrui was torn between laughter and tears, he came here for help, really didn’t want to ramble, but if he didn’t answer the questions, how could he expect assistance from them?

”Dragon Head Camp has been actively absorbing survivors from nearby. It took about three months to recruit survivors between Qin City and Mountain and Sea District into the camp. But about a month ago, while we were on routine patrol on Binhai Avenue, we spotted two people!

These two appeared to be a couple, clearly in a different status from ordinary survivors, their attire could only be described as luxurious, their down jackets were worth tens of thousands before, and most importantly, they were spotless, immaculately clean. Since the disaster, I haven’t met anyone so clean, to be honest, even cleaner than you, King Yama, right now...”

”Hmm, a down jacket worth tens of thousands might be easy to find, but staying spotless is indeed not easy, and then?”

From the description, Zhang Su could picture the scene, he glanced at his own attire, which was decent, but to say it was spotless would be an exaggeration.

”Then... as soon as we spotted them, they spotted us too! We were about two or three hundred meters away at the time, we drove over intending to talk, but the couple clearly had no interest, quickly hopped onto a balance scooter and left.”

”I remember it was at Gouqu Village, beside the village is a big old forest. The couple were quite skilled on the balance scooter, disappearing into the forest soon after. We searched around in the forest, and from a spot camouflaged with fallen leaves, we found a high-tech metal door, which, though camouflaged, showed signs of recent operation.”

Hearing this, Zhang Su felt puzzled, ”Could it be a secret government base or something?”

”Later, we communicated with the people in the shelter through leaving notes. That place was a shelter he funded; I represented Dragon Head Camp to invite them and was willing to trade with them, but they had no intention of communicating with us, and they eventually stopped responding altogether.”

Shen Linrui shrugged helplessly.

Another member of Dragon Head Camp chimed in, ”I suspect that person might be boasting; he claimed they spent over a billion on building that shelter. I asked villagers near Gouqu Village, none of them knew of any shelter project, such a big construction couldn’t have been completely hidden.”

”When wealthy and powerful people get things done, anything is possible...” Zhang Su rubbed his chin in thought, then asked, ”So you met them just once, and then communicated via notes without meeting them again?”

”We saw them unilaterally...”

Shen Linrui said, ”For some time, Da Shan and I often staked out near Gouqu Village, and we finally caught them once. The ground door slowly rose, powered by electricity and hydraulic rods. We were well hidden and got a clear view!

The couple didn’t seem old, considering maintenance, they should be in their forties. The man was very gentlemanly, and the woman quite graceful. They came out for a short walk in the forest, presumably for some fresh air, very cautious, walking around the iron door for about five minutes before heading back.

We meant no harm, so we didn’t disturb them later, but if you mention five drones, I could only think of them. Geographically speaking, it makes sense.”

”Wow, over a billion, that’s a lot of money.”

Pang Dakun now believed Shen Linrui’s words, crossed arms picturing several billion in front of him, but then sighed and said, ”Useless now, money’s useless now.”

”I didn’t expect such a big player in Qin City, impressive, I admire them.”

”Gouqu Village is surrounded by forest and water, placing the shelter there is reasonable, doesn’t necessarily mean they’re from Qin City; I suspect they’re more likely not Qin City people!”

”Why do you say so?”

”If they were Qin City people, wouldn’t such a wealthy boss have more family there?”

”How do you know there aren’t other people living in the shelter, right? Hard to say...”

”Alright, let’s stop discussing this for now!”

Zhang Su halted the discussion, looked up at the increasingly dark sky, checked the time on his wrist, and it was almost four o’clock, so he said.

”Everyone, let’s set aside the shelter issue for the moment. As for your previous plea for help, why not join us for dinner at our camp first, I need more information to decide if we’ll assist you!”

Zhang Su didn’t outright refuse them; firstly because there aren’t many people left in Qin City nowadays, Dragon Head Camp’s population might not necessarily be smaller than that of Celestial Horse Island, forming alliances is better than battling each other, peacefully absorbing takes time.

Secondly, their attitude was sincere, answering all questions and didn’t immediately use moral coercion, saying things like, if Dragon Head Camp hadn’t been holding the front line against the zombies, you’d all be doomed or something like that.

”Well... King Yama, to be honest, it’s quite urgent, at the camp over there... alright, the brothers can hold on for a day if they try their best, they can make it!”

Despite the anxious look on their faces, Shen Linrui and his group complied with Zhang Su’s suggestion, knowing that deploying troops for aid was no small matter, they would be equally cautious if the roles were reversed.

After handing over their weapons and being searched to ensure no problems, the five of them followed the Yama Corps up to Celestial Horse Island.

”Umm... King Yama, would it be possible to look around?”

Sitting in the passenger seat, Shen Linrui asked politely as the vehicle ascended the mountain, knowing they’d soon reach the camp.

Zhang Su chuckled, ”Nothing secret here, feel free to look.”

Things revealed weren’t secrets, but the fact that they asked still made people feel comfortable; even if it was just for show, they played it well.

Receiving a positive answer, Shen Linrui cast his gaze out the window, comparing the climb up to Celestial Horse Island with Dragon Head Camp in his mind. In terms of terrain, Celestial Horse Island had the advantage, but its defense structures couldn’t match those of Dragon Head.

In his view, there was no visible protection along the way, which was unreasonable, obviously because hidden treasures were stashed away where he couldn’t see.

Passing through the mountain gate, two tanks were stationed at one side, one large and one small supporting each other, creating an imposing effect, but this didn’t surprise Shen Linrui as Dragon Head Camp also had tanks, more than ten, yet they were futile due to excessive fuel consumption.

Looking around, the vehicle parked in the lot.

As dusk gradually fell, the camp’s kitchen was bustling, filled with the aroma of cooking.
