Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

Chapter 757: Chapter 628: As Long as We’re Alive, Nothing Is Difficult

Whoooosh!

The fierce wind swept up sand and debris, frantically battering the buildings. Inside the restaurant, tables and chairs were knocked over, crashing into each other.

Bang, bam!

A mysterious loud noise erupted outside, as if something had fallen.

What it feels like when a storm hits was finally made tangible at this moment…

Strangely, the wind wasn’t cold; it carried a peculiar scent, not unpleasant, almost with a faint fragrance.

“This smell!”

Zhang Su closed his eyes. When the faint scent entered his nostrils, he knew he was right; definitely a Venom Zombie had exploded!

Not only him, but others familiar with this scent felt their hearts tremble.

The shockwave came fiercely and left swiftly. The strong wind lasted less than ten seconds, but in that brief time, it caused significant damage to the entire Celestial Horse Island and the Satellite Village below the mountain!

Swish, swish, swish.

As the scene quieted down, Zhang Su was the first to stand up, took two steps forward, and dusted himself off. He turned to look at the panic-stricken crowd. The surrounding was dark, but he could see clearly.

“Is everyone okay?”

About two seconds later, Zhao Dezhu was the first to react: “Ptooey, ptooey… Damn, my mouth stuffed with dirt! Bro, what the hell was that, asteroid hitting Earth?”

First came the earthquake and inexplicable glow, followed by the violent shockwave, a disturbance that fits the theory of an asteroid hitting Earth quite well.

“Definitely not an asteroid hitting Earth; there was a familiar sensation just now…”

Liu Tianji’s gaze was inexplicable.

Click.

Zhang Su switched on the flashlight, lending a hand to companions, shaking his head: “It was a shockwave caused by an explosion. Let’s clean up first and study it later!”

With that said, he took out the walkie-talkie, preparing to contact others to check the camp’s damage. However, he found there was no signal at all; it had temporarily become useless.

“There’s electromagnetic interference. Come, whoever has a flashlight, bring two more to light the way; let’s head outside first.”

Zhang Su led the people from Little Lucky Restaurant to the front gate. The scene outside left him dumbfounded.

The wind had swept many items into the yard, piling them up against the leeward wall. The heavy noise just now was the roof of the Little Lucky’s utility room being ripped off, smashing half of the yard gate and over one meter of wall.

Many windows were shattered, only those facing away from the wind were slightly better since they were sturdier, hung by their hinges. The wires previously set up between the inn buildings, as well as the surveillance data lines, vanished without a trace, blown who knows where.

The direction of the shock wave brushed against Celestial Horse Island. If the mountain had turned just a bit more or the inn area was closer to the mountainside, with the mountain blocking, nothing would have happened…

“My wife, my wife!”

Zhao Dezhu snapped out of his shock and dashed outside the yard; he was heading to the monitoring room.

“Oh my mama!”

Squeak, crash.

Duan Wuhu pushed open the main entrance of Little Lucky Inn’s hall; the shattered door panels fell immediately upon touch. Seeing the crowd in the yard under flashlight, he wheeled to the door, puzzled: “Brothers, is this the end of the world?”

“Cough, cough…”

Fu Weijun was choked by the dust, coughed a few times, and then said: “This was a shockwave caused by an explosion; not sure where the big bang occurred.”

His conclusion, similar to Zhang Su’s, was equally aware of the cause.

“This, alas…”

“Our well-established camp, turned into this mess, what bad luck, what to do.”

“Our vegetable shed and duck pen, all gone, definitely all gone!”

“Don’t be disheartened, stay optimistic!”

Hearing the complaints around him, Zhang Su shouted aloud, took off his glasses and pocketed them, a spirit of determination surged in his chest.

He said loudly: “Disaster has struck; we fought our way out from the city, haven’t we been through enough hardships? When we arrived at Celestial Horse Island, supplies only lasted us a month, and now? Even faced with disaster, we’re far better off than before!

We settled here at Celestial Horse Island; it provides us with protection; we must cherish everything here. If a strong wind destroys the facilities, we rebuild them; united in spirit, we can accomplish anything!

If the vegetable shed is blown down, we’ll prop it back with wood; if the chickens and ducks are blown away, we’ll catch them back. As long as we are alive, no difficulty is insurmountable!”

In the quiet environment, not only people from Little Lucky could hear Zhang Su’s voice, but several people in the inns next door could also hear; however, people outside the yard couldn’t be touched by the burning enthusiasm.

Yuwen was still down the hill; he would be very relieved to hear Zhang Su’s words.

“United in spirit, rebuilding our home!”

“Thanks to Brother Su’s reminder, none of us got hurt; this is a blessing in disguise, and the losses aren’t that bad either. The house is intact, only the windows are broken; a wooden board will do just fine, what’s the big deal?”

“Who’s doubting that, folks, let’s get to work!”

A round of morale-boosting words immediately roused the fighting spirit in people’s hearts. The saying ‘as long as the green hill is there, one need not worry about no firewood’ is now brilliantly exemplified.

“Honestly… didn’t expect such an event to happen. King Yama, we’re willing to lend a hand to help cleanup at Celestial Horse Island after this disaster. By tomorrow… you probably won’t have manpower available, but we have to return to Dragon Head Camp.”

Shen Linrui spoke heavily. The camp had sent him for reinforcements, but the reinforcements suffered disaster here; he felt somewhat embarrassed, fearing King Yama would blame them.

Zhang Su looked at Shen Linrui with an inexplicable expression, then after four or five seconds, forced a smile.

“You might find it difficult to return as well, fearing that en route… let’s not discuss; we need to start the cleanup work first. You all are guests; find a place to rest, or you can go down the mountain to assess the situation.”

Shen Linrui’s face grew heavier upon hearing Zhang Su’s words, but he still intended to help out. After all, they genuinely came seeking aid with goodwill, hoping to do good and build good relations, willing to lend a hand.

Crackle, crackle…

Just then, the electromagnetic interference decreased, and a voice came through the walkie-talkie: “Zhang… crackle, No. 2… crackle, many injured, no deaths reported yet, I’m now heading to Village No.3!”

The speaker was Yuwen, who had been busy in the village earlier. After receiving Zhang Su’s emergency message, he immediately found a house to hide in. The earthquake and loud noise reminded him of the Tunguska Explosion, prompting him to anticipate a shockwave soon, hence he found a very good spot and, as expected, remained unharmed.

The dozen survivors hiding with Yuwen were full of gratitude.

However, others weren’t fortunate enough.

Many couldn’t receive the news in time; by the time they did, the shockwave had already arrived; even worse, some didn’t get the message and were blown away like rolling gourds. Fortunately, with the extra layers for warmth now, they had a buffer; otherwise, death wasn’t far away!

Howl, howl, woof!

Meanwhile, Zhang Su perked his ears, hearing Zombies wailing in the distance, not a No.1 procedure, which meant…

“Old Yu, Old Yu, immediately organize those unharmed in the village to start rescue and cleanup, first of all deal with the generator Zombies, absolutely don’t let those Zombies bite anyone, our support will be there soon.”

Now, each village has horse and cattle generators; the shockwave might have released horse and cattle Zombies, a significant problem!

“Oh dear, I better hurry and check it out!”

Jia Shiqin was in the yard, unable to hear Zombie howls, but upon Zhang Su’s reminder, he suddenly awoke and hurried toward the generators on Celestial Horse Island.

“Old Pan, go help Master Jia!”

After instructing, Zhang Su switched the frequency: “Yama Corps listen up! Guo Dachao, Wang Xin, Wang Longzhong, Wu Lue, Duan Wuhu, Zhao Xue, Pei Lan, Yang Wenjie, you stay at Celestial Horse Island, immediately coordinate with Yi Xiaoling, Mo Qianlan, and others to rescue farm and plantation structures!”

“Xinyu, accompany Xiaoshan to the warehouse for medicine; wait, Xiaochen and Xiaoliu, you two go together, help clear obstacles.”

“Bozai, notify Old Ding and Old Wang, join us down the mountain for rescue, and call Zhuzi and his wife too!”

Instructions flowed from Zhang Su’s mouth; some relayed via walkie-talkie, some directly spoken to those nearby.
