Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Chapter 1132: Chapter 716: Jackals Arrive_2

When Xiao Yong saw his father’s somewhat stern expression, he stopped asking questions, took the initiative to carry a parcel, and ran towards the forest as fast as he could.

After the heavy rain, although some trees were submerged.

However, under the recent sun, many plants grew rapidly, coupled with the robust season of spring, the forest started to become lush again.

The two moved swiftly, and when Zhuzi and his group raced down from the top of the seven-story building to the remnants of the wall opposite, they found nothing.

Zhuzi inspected the ground and the remaining wall carefully but found nothing.

He glanced at the woods behind them, unable to discern anything.

The person beside him asked, ”Zhuzi, did you see wrong?”

Zhuzi also doubted his own eyes, but he said seriously, ”Brother Chao told us to be cautious. Even if it was a mistake, we should check it out. Better safe than sorry.”

”You’re right, Zhuzi,” said the person beside him.

”Alright, since we found nothing, let’s head back.”

Zhuzi looked at the woods once more, sensing something amiss, but with nothing there, he could only return to the base for duty.

Ten minutes later.

Xu Chengcai led Xiao Yong over a mountain.

The two squatted to rest amidst a lush cluster of grass in the valley.

Xu Chengcai used the telescope to examine the direction of the national road.

He paused and said to Xiao Yong, ”We’ll take this route later, don’t get too close to the national road, stay a bit farther. I saw someone scouting near the residential buildings by the road earlier. If we’re spotted, it’s trouble, so let’s be cautious and avoid it.”

Although Xiao Yong was young, he patiently explained.

Perhaps before Doomsday, adults wouldn’t bother to explain their actions.

But Xu Chengcai was different. He tried to share his thoughts and ideas with Xiao Yong, hoping he would understand.

He didn’t know how long he could protect Xiao Yong, maybe someday he wouldn’t be there, maybe someday he would be bitten by a Zombie, and then Xiao Yong would have to survive alone.

All he did was to ensure that if he died, Xiao Yong could still live in this brutal Doomsday.

Fatherly love is steadfast.

Xu Chengcai often pained at the thought of Xiao Yong living in this world alone should he be gone.

In response to Xu Chengcai’s explanation, Xiao Yong nodded and said, ”Dad, do you mean you saw people on the national road, so the base is still ahead, but we can’t guarantee whether there are still scouts stationed by the road ahead, so to avoid being discovered, we’ll walk a bit away from the road. Is that what you mean?”

Xu Chengcai felt comforted and smiled at Xiao Yong, ”Yes, Xiao Yong is very smart.”

”Hmm? Move your body a bit, there’s a stone plaque behind you,” Xu Chengcai suddenly noticed a black plaque behind Xiao Yong and said.

Not knowing why, Xiao Yong moved his body away.

Xu Chengcai slowly approached, wiped the dirt off the black plaque.

”Father Ci Liu Gong’s Tomb,” Xu Chengcai read out the words clearly.

He looked around and found two more marble stones.

Surveying the surroundings, they were indeed slightly elevated, with lush vegetation and thick grass.

”Dad, what is it?” Xiao Yong walked over, wanting to see the plaque blocked by Xu Chengcai.

Without avoiding, Xu Chengcai naturally stepped aside to let Xiao Yong see.

Seeing the words, Xiao Yong’s face slightly changed and he said to his father, ”Is this a grave?”

”Yes,” Xu Chengcai said calmly.

They stood in the valley flanked by two mountains, beside a stream trickling.

When silent, the water tinkled.

Standing here, the view was excellent.

A vast expanse ahead evoked the feeling of mountains ending in open plains, rivers flowing into a great wilderness.

The mountain breeze blew, surrounded by green shade, cool and refreshing.

Xu Chengcai said, ”This valley between two mountains, with water nearby, is indeed an auspicious place.

With good feng shui, hidden from winds and gathering qi, sheltered from wind and rain.”

”Unfortunately, a torrential downpour and flood destroyed the grave,” Xu Chengcai said regretfully.

Seeing his father acknowledge these things he couldn’t understand with such calmness, Xiao Yong suddenly felt unafraid.

Xu Chengcai thought for a moment, picked up the fallen plaque, searched for the center of the small mound, stood it upright, and then used some soil to secure the plaque.

Slightly bowing, he prayed, ”Sorry to disturb your resting place.”

Xiao Yong imitated him, bowing to the plaque and saying, ”Sorry to disturb.”

His face showed no fear, just a hint of enigmatic expression.

Xu Chengcai picked up the parcel from the ground, took Xiao Yong’s hand, looked towards the forest opposite the national road again, and when sure there was no problem, walked forward along the valley.

On the way.

After a few minutes of silence.

Xiao Yong broke the silence.

”Dad, do ghosts exist?”

”I don’t know, haven’t seen any.”

”Then will the person whose grave we unwittingly sat on be angry with us?”
