Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Gan City.

Xing County.

Dongfeng and his group moved without stopping, heading for the rumored Big Camphor Tree Base.

In the past few days, Dajie’s injury hadn’t improved, but it hadn’t worsened either; at least he survived, which was something to be thankful for.

After several days of travel, they fought zombies with wit and courage, trudging along the way, their faces covered in dust.

Uncle Wan watched the sun set and the sky darken. Seeing a fallen sign on the national highway with the words Jingxiu Driving School, he said to Dongfeng, ”Boss Dongfeng, we need to find a place to stay the night. The driving school mentioned on the sign should be a kilometer ahead; shall we go take a look?”

Dongfeng walked to the sign, cleaned the mud off it, nodded and said, ”Alright, driving schools have walls, and if we’re lucky, we might find a car inside; let’s go check it out.”

Uncle Wan slightly shook his head, refraining from pouring cold water on the idea.

Both sides of the national highway were flooded. Driving schools are usually in flat areas, likely flooded as well.

With Doomsday having lasted this long, and everything being waterlogged for so long, it’s highly unlikely they’ll find a car that can run.

The group continued walking along the national highway but still didn’t find the driving school after a kilometer.

”The sign clearly said one kilometer, why haven’t we reached it yet?” Dongfeng’s expression changed, puzzled.

Uncle Wan was also puzzled but suddenly remembered the floods from previous heavy rains. He spoke with some frustration, ”The sign fell to the ground, perhaps washed over by water.”

”Ah!” Dongfeng’s face turned grim at the words.

”Forget it, let’s keep walking. If we don’t find the driving school on the road, we’ll just find a random house to spend the night.” Dongfeng said helplessly.

By this time, it was already 5:45 PM.

The sun on the mountain was close to the peak.

They squinted at the glaring sunset and continued walking.

Another kilometer along, they spotted a sign at a small junction.

——>

Jingxiu Driving School, left turn 200 meters.

Seeing it, Dongfeng looked at the narrow cement road to the left, his expression lightened.

Turning to Uncle Wan and the others, he said, ”Let’s go, it’s probably correct; let’s go in and have a look.”

Uncle Wan looked at the national highway as more residential buildings began appearing.

The walls of the houses had peeling white paint, possibly due to water exposure, and many ferns grew on them. There was even a vine wrapping around the front door of one house.

Uncle Wan nodded; it was worth going in for a look.

If the driving school wasn’t there, they could still find a house to stay in for the night.

The group carried backpacks and pushed a small cart in that direction.

Xu Chengcai, 500 meters away, looked at the sky.

Decisively, he took Xiao Yong to an inconspicuous house by the roadside.

Tonight, they planned to spend the night there.

These days, Xu Chengcai had figured out the pattern of the groups ahead: find a camp twenty minutes before dark.

In the morning, they set off an hour after sunrise.

Every hour, they would stop to rest.

As the sky darkened, he knew the group ahead was definitely looking for a place to hide from zombies.

Xu Chengcai led Xiao Yong to a house by the national highway, avoiding the more obvious one 20 meters from the road.

Instead, they took a small path to a house behind it.

This house wasn’t directly facing the highway, but they could still see it.

It looked inconspicuous, but also somewhat hidden.

With their packs on their backs, Xu Chengcai told Xiao Yong to stand behind him, choosing not to enter through the front door.

Instead, he circled around to enter through the rear.

Arriving at the back door, they found a small 30-square-meter yard, with a low wall just over a meter high, built of hollow bricks easy for Xu Chengcai to kick down.

Seeing the backdoor, with dust and grass on the handle, Xu Chengcai didn’t turn the knob.

Instead, he threw his backpack inside and climbed over.

Because it was hollow, climbing was easy for Xiao Yong, though he didn’t flip over like Xu Chengcai did, but stepped carefully on the bricks to get through.

”Jump down. I’ll catch you.” Xu Chengcai said quietly to Xiao Yong on the wall.

Thud—

”It’s fine, Dad, I can do it myself.” Xiao Yong jumped down, smiling at his father.

Seeing this, Xu Chengcai gave a thumbs up and praised, ”Well done, you did great, Xiao Yong.”

But he quickly added, ”Be careful too, if you twist an ankle, it won’t be good; getting hurt now is out of the question.”

In Doomsday, injury is dangerous; if hurt, and zombies come, escape could be impossible.

Xiao Yong beamed at his father’s praise but listened seriously to his advice.

Xu Chengcai then picked up his pack, gently opening the back door.

Moving slowly, quite cautiously.

Although this house showed no signs of zombie invasion at the doors, it bore marks of human scavenging.
