The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

Leng Yuan took some time off, told Gu Jiaojiao he was leaving, and headed to the County Town.

He went straight to Lu Yuanbin’s house.

Lately, Lu Yuanbin had found himself with nothing to do.

Most of the black market business had been diverted to the neighboring county, and while he still got a cut, he was left idle.

And all this free time was making him antsy.

He lay in a rocking chair under a tree, sipping tea and cursing An Dongyang’s name.

’It’s all that bastard’s fault,’ he thought, ’conspiring with Old Nine to screw me over. Luckily, Brother Leng and Zhang Tianming warned me to lay low, so they couldn’t pin any hard evidence on me.’

’Otherwise, I would’ve been facing a firing squad.’

The more he thought about it, the angrier he got.

’I wonder when Brother Leng will show up and help me get some payback.’

Speak of the devil. The moment Lu Yuanbin thought of Leng Yuan, there was a knock on his courtyard gate.

Lu Yuanbin opened the gate, and his eyes lit up when he saw it was Leng Yuan.

”Brother Leng, come in, quick!”

As Leng Yuan walked inside, Lu Yuanbin started complaining pitifully.

”Brother Leng, you have no idea. That Old Nine has gone too damn far.”

”That bastard, just because he has the An Family’s backing, his prices are getting outrageous. He’s charging thirty cents for a black market stall spot, and he’s always swaggering over here to gloat. It’s enough to piss a guy to death.”

The very thought of Old Nine’s smug, gloating face made Lu Yuanbin’s blood boil.

Leng Yuan snorted in contempt, looking at Lu Yuanbin’s earnest, tattling expression.

”The fact that you let your enemy get so arrogant just proves you’re incompetent. You have the nerve to complain about it?”

Lu Yuanbin hung his head, looking utterly dejected.

Leng Yuan couldn’t bear to look at him, but his heart softened anyway.

”Let’s go. I’ll help you get even.”

With that, he turned and walked out first.

Lu Yuanbin was sure Leng Yuan already had a plan. ’Knowing Brother Leng,’ he thought, ’it must be some intricate plot to make Old Nine suffer a loss without even knowing what hit him. It’s not the first time I’ve seen Brother Leng work, after all.’

’Every time Brother Leng deals with someone, the person never knows it was him.’

’I have to pay close attention this time so I can do the same to Old Nine myself.’

Lu Yuanbin hurried out, remembering to lock the main gate before trailing after Leng Yuan.

”Brother Leng, shouldn’t we bring something to defend ourselves?”

”No need,” Leng Yuan said in a low voice.

”Alright then!” Lu Yuanbin followed menacingly behind Leng Yuan. Anyone who saw them coming immediately gave them a wide berth.

Both men were tall and imposing. One was expressionless, but his eyes were what made him frightening, precisely because they held no emotion. The other was also solidly built, his face fixed in a fierce scowl, looking like he was about to roll up his sleeves and start a brawl.

They looked like trouble you didn’t want to mess with.

But as they walked, the path grew more and more familiar, and Lu Yuanbin’s excitement began to fade.

He glanced around. ’This direction... looks like we’re heading for Old Nine’s turf.’

”Brother Leng, didn’t you say you were helping me get even?”

”We’re on our way right now!”

”So, when you said ’get even,’ you meant going straight for Old Nine?”

”Mm.”

Lu Yuanbin: ...

’This direct?’

But seeing the serious look on his Brother Leng’s face, he knew it wasn’t a joke. Lu Yuanbin didn’t ask any more questions and even moved ahead of Leng Yuan to lead the way.

Soon, the two of them arrived at Old Nine’s territory.

In the black market, Old Nine was making the rounds with his men. Amidst the small-time vendors, a girl of about seventeen or eighteen with her hair in two braids stood out. She watched the passersby with timid eyes, not daring to call out.

Old Nine’s gaze swept over the girl before landing on her goods: two old hens.

These days, most people kept old hens for their eggs; they were rarely sold. The fact that this girl had brought two, combined with her anxious expression, suggested her family was in desperate need of money.

Old Nine took one look and swaggered over with his men.
