The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

An Dongyang went into his room and immediately locked the door. Then, he pulled open Xu Wenwan’s drawer.

Inside the drawer was a small jewelry box, carved and decorated with colored glaze, which had several small drawers of its own. He opened the first one. Lying inside was the solid green bracelet that Xu Wenwan wore.

He immediately took out the bracelet and wrapped it thickly in a cloth to keep it from breaking.

Then, he pulled open the remaining drawers. Inside were a pair of gold earrings and a golden ring.

An Dongyang didn’t hesitate; he took them all.

’I’ll just take these things for now. When I have money later, I can just pay Xu Wenwan back. Besides, this stuff belonged to the An Family to begin with.’

’But just these few items won’t be enough!’

An Dongyang then thought of his mother’s jewelry.

His mother had even more jewelry than Xu Wenwan, including several sets she rarely wore. He knew exactly where she kept them.

His attention diverted, An Dongyang almost forgot about the pain racking his body.

He crept into his mother’s room and opened the wardrobe. There was a hidden compartment in the corner. He opened it and found several boxes inside.

He opened them for a look and took two pairs of jadeite earrings and a pair of gold bracelets.

’These should sell for at least two thousand yuan.’

’Fifteen hundred for Boss Lü, and I’ll keep the remaining five hundred to spend.’

With the items in hand, An Dongyang didn’t delay. He went straight back to his room, opened the window, and then lay on his bed to wait.

Before long, a stone flew in through the window. A look of delight appeared on An Dongyang’s face.

He went to the window and looked out to see Old Nine waiting downstairs, one hand wrapped in a bandage.

He immediately went to his desk, scribbled a few lines on a piece of paper, and threw it down.

Old Nine limped forward and picked up the wad of paper. After reading its contents, he nodded up at An Dongyang.

Only then did An Dongyang put the jewelry into a cloth bag, tie it with some yarn he found in the room, and lower it down.

Old Nine stepped forward and untied the bag. He nodded at An Dongyang again and then departed.

After finishing all this, An Dongyang covered his tracks, closed the window, and went to unlock his door. Then, he lay down comfortably on his bed and drifted off to sleep.

He had been on edge ever since he was beaten and sent home. The severe pain in his body had made it impossible to sleep. But now that the problem was solved and he had put medicine on his wounds, the pain had subsided, and he finally drifted off.

Downstairs, Mrs. An was constantly finding fault with Xu Wenwan. Xu Wenwan wanted nothing more than to drop everything and quit, but she was afraid of truly angering her mother-in-law, so she endured it all until the meal was ready.

Fortunately, she was a good cook.

Mrs. An was relatively satisfied with this fact.

Mrs. An had come to a decision. ’Since my son likes her for now, I’ll just treat Xu Wenwan like a maid. When he gets tired of her, I’ll just kick her out of the house.’

’There was no need to argue with my son over this right now and damage the harmony between us.’

Xu Wenwan, unaware of these thoughts, saw Mrs. An’s expression soften as she looked at the dishes. Thinking her mother-in-law was finally starting to accept her, she worked even more enthusiastically.

Once the food was ready, Xu Wenwan didn’t even take a bite herself. Instead, she first carried a tray of food upstairs to An Dongyang.

For the moment, a sense of harmony settled over the An Family’s home.

Carrying the jadeite from An Dongyang, Old Nine secretly went to the black market and had his men put the word out.

There weren’t many serious buyers around right now. He was only helping find someone to take the items as a favor, given An Dongyang’s status.
