The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

The Lin Family.

Chen Shulan finished dinner and sat in the courtyard, watching Daya and Tie Dan play. She looked at her two children with immense satisfaction.

She wasn’t a very cultured person, but both of her children had been sent to the commune’s primary school to study. For Chen Shulan, this was a matter of great pride.

After all, very few families in the entire village were willing to spend that kind of money.

”Daya, Tie Dan, you two need to listen up. Ma sent you to the school in the commune, so you have to make me proud.”

’She was counting on her son and daughter to be successful so she could enjoy a comfortable life in her old age!’

Lin Daya and Lin Tie Dan were long used to this, so they both gave a perfunctory reply.

”Don’t worry, Ma. I’ll definitely make you proud.”

Lin Tie Dan’s eyes were fixed on the toy in his hands, his tone sounding just like he was shouting a slogan.

Lin Daya quickly chimed in, ”Ma, don’t you worry! I’m definitely better than Sweet Girl. You probably don’t know, but that Sweet Girl is already so old and she’s only in the second grade! She’s the oldest in her entire class. It’s so embarrassing.”

They all went to the same commune primary school. Sweet Girl was three years older than Lin Daya but was in a grade below her, something Lin Daya often mocked her for.

It was the same with Xiao Yang. He was the same age as Lin Daya but in the same grade as Lin Tie Dan. So embarrassing.

Only then did Chen Shulan remember that Gu Jiaojiao had also sent Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang to the commune school. She couldn’t help but purse her lips in disdain.

”How could those two jinxes possibly compare to you? You have to make me proud in the future. Don’t you dare let those two jinxes outdo you, understand?”

Hearing this, a flicker of guilt crossed Lin Tie Dan’s eyes.

Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang were in his class, but they were at the top, number one in the class. He was dead last. ’How can I even compare?’

Lin Tie Dan said nothing.

Lin Daya, on the other hand, looked down on Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang. ”Ma, don’t you worry! I’m definitely way better than those two jinxes.”

Lin Daya didn’t pay attention to the second-graders’ results, but her own grades were decent—about average in her class. She didn’t give Sweet Girl or Xiao Yang a second thought.

Chen Shulan immediately smiled, satisfied.

In her mind, Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang were still the two little beggars she used to torment. They couldn’t hold a candle to her own children.

「The next day」

Chen Shulan went out to work and brought up the matter of the children’s schooling.

She casually started praising how well her own children were doing in their studies.

”If you ask me, Gu Jiaojiao is just throwing her money away. Sweet Girl is already so old, and she’s still sending her to school. How old will she be by the time she graduates high school?”

Sweet Girl was fourteen and only in the second grade. She’d be eighteen by the time she finished primary school and in her twenties when she graduated high school. By then, she’d be an old maid. Who would want her?

Besides, if she gets married right after graduating high school, she won’t have earned a single cent for the family. Gu Jiaojiao adopted a child—isn’t that a total loss?

The other woman thought for a moment and felt that made sense.

”A girl that old should be kept at home to do more chores. Schooling is useless for her.”

”That Gu Jiaojiao is just young and has no life experience. She doesn’t know the first thing about managing a household. If you ask me, Leng Yuan should be keeping his wife in line. Any money they have, she just squanders it like this.”

Exactly.

Leng Yuan had a job, and Gu Jiaojiao did too.

But wouldn’t it be better to save that money?

Why waste it on two unrelated people?

Chen Shulan already harbored a grudge against Gu Jiaojiao. Seeing that someone agreed with her, she immediately started cursing, letting fly a few insults at Gu Jiaojiao.

Chen Ruoyu, who was nearby, couldn’t listen anymore. She threw her hoe on the ground and faced Chen Shulan. ”What kind of skill is cursing someone behind their back? If you’ve got the guts, go say it to Gu Jiaojiao’s face!”
