The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man

’Her husband is so useless.’

’He can’t make any money, and he can’t even get full work points. In the whole brigade, so many people get full work points. Why can’t he?’

’It’s all my fault. Why did I have to choose such a useless man?’

The more Chen Shulan thought about it, the more she felt that what Gu Jiaojiao said made sense.

’But wasn’t she here to cause trouble for Gu Jiaojiao?’

How could she be agreeing with Gu Jiaojiao? Chen Shulan immediately tried to object.

”No.”

”It’s not like that.”

Gu Jiaojiao snapped vegetables from their stems while chatting with Chen Shulan. ”How is it not?”

”If your husband were more capable, would you be this envious of me? Would you still feel so resentful?”

”They say you marry a man to be clothed and fed. If your food and clothes aren’t as good as others’, isn’t that your husband’s fault?”

”You should have been living a better life. It’s such a shame.”

Gu Jiaojiao’s words struck a chord with Chen Shulan. At that moment, only one thought filled her mind.

The terrible life she was living now was all her husband’s fault.

She forgot all about causing trouble for Gu Jiaojiao and turned to head back home.

She was going to go back and settle the score with that good-for-nothing husband of hers.

Having finished her task, Gu Jiaojiao watched Chen Shulan leave and let out a soft laugh.

’It wasn’t that her words were so convincing that Chen Shulan believed them. It was because, deep down, that was what Chen Shulan already thought.’

Chen Shulan was the type who loved to compare herself to others, but she hadn’t been favored in her own family. Back then, her family had demanded a high bride price, and only Lin Jiandong was willing to pay it. That was how she ended up marrying him.

At her maiden home, Chen Shulan had been the one who was bullied. But once she joined the Lin Family and saw how simple and honest her husband was, her arrogance swelled, and she began to call all the shots at home.

In reality, compared to her life at her maiden home, Chen Shulan had already turned things around and become the master of her own house.

It was just that once things got good, she wanted them to be even better.

After becoming the master, she started wanting better living conditions.

If the Lin Family had been well-off and Lin Jiandong had been more assertive, how could he have let a woman control him like that?

But Chen Shulan didn’t see it that way. She thought her husband was incompetent and spineless, incapable of giving her a good life. And Lin Jiandong wasn’t a saint, either. That was why Gu Jiaojiao felt not a shred of guilt for driving a wedge between the couple.

Gu Jiaojiao put the matter out of her mind after the confrontation, but Chen Shulan took it to heart. When she got back, she saw her husband leaning his hoe against the wall, then sitting down in the yard to smoke without even washing his hands.

It was the same every day, but today, Lin Jiandong’s lazy demeanor infuriated Chen Shulan.

’This old oaf... He’s not eager to work, but he sure knows how to relax. He doesn’t even think to start cooking when he gets back, just sits there waiting to be fed.’

The more Chen Shulan thought, the angrier she became. She could earn seven or eight work points a day herself, and Lin Jiandong, a full-grown man, also only earned seven or eight. On top of that, he didn’t do any work around the house—all the chores fell to her.

Chen Shulan shoved the wicker gate open with a BANG. The gate slammed hard against the fence with a THUD. The next moment, the gate tilted, hanging crookedly from a single point while the other side came loose.

The noise made Lin Jiandong, who was smoking in the yard, jump. He looked up and saw Chen Shulan’s furious expression.

Lin Jiandong’s heart lurched. He had just gotten back from a half-day of work and had no idea what had happened.

He was just about to ask what was wrong when, in the next instant, Chen Shulan rushed in and slapped him across the face.

SMACK.

”You good-for-nothing! It’s all your fault I can’t live a good life.”

Lin Jiandong was stunned.

’What’s going on?’

He had been slapped and called useless by his own wife for no reason at all. Lin Jiandong couldn’t help but retort.

”What’s gotten into you? Who provoked you this time?”
