Chapter 299: May’s Heartbeat

”That is... the Legendary Pokémon from that time?”

Seeing Marshadow, the Team Rocket Trio recalled the scene they witnessed on Tianshan Mountain where it was fighting Mewtwo.

Hearing the Team Rocket Trio call him, Marshadow’s eyes hardened.

Seeing the change in Marshadow’s eyes, the Team Rocket Trio was so terrified they didn’t dare move, fearing that Marshadow would deliver a massive kick to them.

”Treecko, go, and settle the score with that Seviper,” Ash said.

”Treecko!”

Treecko nodded, then approached Seviper and provocatively beckoned it forward.

Seeing Treecko, Seviper also showed an angry expression. If it recalled correctly, this was the very guy who had sent it flying far away and had subjected it to a miserable trashing.

The two Pokémon, bearing a grudge against each other, couldn’t stand the sight of one another. Seviper launched the first attack with Poison Tail.

Treecko used Quick Attack, utilizing its speed advantage to tangle with Seviper, and finally landed a heavy slap on Seviper.

Ignoring Marshadow’s intimidating presence, Jessie shouted, ”Come on, Seviper! Take down that stinking lizard, use Poison Tail!”

Hearing this, Seviper immediately did as Jessie said, swinging its tail around to strike at Treecko.

”Treecko, now is the time to show the results of your special training!”

Treecko leaped forcefully into the air, spun its body, and delivered a heavy blow to Seviper’s head.

Boom!

Seviper’s head slammed hard into the ground, and then, due to inertia, it rebounded toward the Team Rocket Trio.

”Marshadow, use Shadow Punch to send them on their way.”

”No... don’t come over here!”

Seeing Marshadow flying toward them, the Team Rocket Trio was terrified and panicked.

Marshadow’s move did not land on them but instead punched the ground at their feet; however, the explosion generated by the skill sent them flying far away.

After dealing with the Team Rocket Trio, Ash went to the Pokémon Center to meet up with May and Brock.

After spending the night at the Pokémon Center, Ash contacted Professor Oak to have Jigglypuff, Milotic, and Totodile transferred over.

They were not far from Rustboro City, and Ash also needed to prepare for the Grand Festival in Rustboro City.

Although he had previously arranged for Jigglypuff and Milotic to train, Ash still needed to personally test the results; he didn’t want to fail the first round of judging in his very first battle.

Consequently, after receiving the Poké Balls, he couldn’t wait to run to the open space in the backyard of the Pokémon Center to test the results.

”Jigglypuff, in a few days you’ll be able to perform on stage; come and show me the results of your training over this period!”

”Jiggly-puff!”

Hearing this, Jigglypuff was immediately excited.

It took out its microphone and sang at the top of its lungs.

Pink musical notes floated around Jigglypuff.

As Jigglypuff’s song reached its climax, it used Psychic to control the musical notes, forming steps that Jigglypuff hopped up onto.

Finally, when it reached the top of the notes, it unleashed Dazzling Gleam, piercing the notes while taking a deep breath to puff itself up like a balloon, slowly floating down. The shattered pink notes formed specks of light, making the slowly descending Jigglypuff look even cuter.

”Jigglypuff, that was a very good performance. Next up is Milotic...”

Ash was satisfied with Milotic’s training results, just as he was with Jigglypuff’s, but when it came to Totodile, things got difficult. This guy showed plenty of energy, but the accuracy of its skill execution was a problem; it was one mistake after another.

It made Ash feel like getting Totodile a unicycle and dressing it up as a clown to play with balls using Water Gun.

Seeing Ash correcting Totodile’s performance, May was very confused, so she found Brock and asked, ”Hey, Brock, what is Ash doing?”

Brock recalled for a moment and replied, ”Ash is probably preparing for the Grand Festival.”

”Grand Festival?” May was even more confused and asked, ”What kind of competition is that?”

”The Grand Festival is a competition that showcases the charm of Pokémon. Unlike regular Pokémon battles, the Grand Festival is divided into two segments. The first segment is to display the appearance of the Pokémon. This segment usually highlights the characteristics of the Pokémon through the combination of moves.

The second segment is the performance judging. Within the allotted time, you use competitive battling to demonstrate your Pokémon’s mastery of moves. The way to win is mainly by competing for points or knocking out the opponent within the time limit.”

At this moment, Nurse Nurse Joy walked over to explain the Grand Festival to May.

”So there’s a competition like this?”

May felt as if a new world had opened up for her.

”Trainers who aim to participate in the Grand Festival are also called Coordinators,” Nurse Nurse Joy added.

”Coordinators?”

May felt an inexplicable thrill in her heart.

”Mr. Ash must have been preparing for the Grand Festival for a long time, right?” Nurse Nurse Joy suddenly asked the two of them.

Brock nodded and replied, ”Yeah, that guy Ash has been preparing since he was traveling in Kanto. Milotic and Jigglypuff were specially caught for this.”

”So... Ash has been preparing for this long!” May was deeply shocked.

She had thought Ash was cramming at the last minute; she hadn’t expected him to be prepared so early.
